The Grinch Stole Christmas!!
Due to problems finding a date, availability of family and dodging the weather, I am sorry to announce No Get-Together this year. (We tried twice) At least we saw many at Uncle June's funeral and Dale and Janet are talking about hosting a card game at their house sometime during CL's birthday weekend. Enjoy the Holidays.

Yes, Travis makes the Northwest Missouri State University's Dean's list with a fine 3.25 gpa. Congrats Travis!! He is majoring is some type of recreational therapy, similar to what Tanner majored in at Iowa. He will be graduating in August!! Go Bearcats, Nice Job Travie!!

Good News From Florida!!

Hi, Auntie Helen was released from rehab on Friday. While still sore from the compression fractures, she is getting along as well as can be expected. I had a successful knee operation (miniscus repair, ligament removed, and 2 bone chips removed) and now will start 6 weeks or less of rehab. The miniscus was shaved off, rather than sewed back together, thus it's bone on bone. A knee replacement is next. When that will be, will depend on the pain level. Hopefully, after I quit golf. Have a very Merry Christmas. The Florida Clan.

Details For Uncle June's Funeral!!
From Cousin Ron: "Visitation is Monday night at Hastings Funeral Home 6-8PM. That is 3 blocks north of Willis Ave on 2nd in Perry. The Funeral will be at the same place Tuesday at 10:30 at Hastings with a lunch to follow at the Methodist Church on Wills, 2 blocks west of 2nd." Again, our deepest sympathies for Peg, Ron, Bob, Tori and their families.

Tryon Christmas Is Postponed!!
Due to a large number of people that are stranded because of the ice storm, the 2007 Tryon Christmas is going to be moved to a different date. We realize the weather will probably improve some, but we have Randy stranded in Iowa City, Tanner in Chicago, The Spirit Lake group is snowed in, GT and Sandy (crutches) were doubtful and I received other emails and concerns. We monitored the weather most of the day and the ice is not melting in most of the areas and tonight's forecast is somewhat iffy, although improving. Maxine is contacting the church and will look for other dates. We thought it was a good idea to postpone tonight rather than at the last minute. We will be at the funeral this week (no details yet) and can discuss the new date then. Sorry for the inconvenience, please contact all of your kids..........

Uncle June Passes Away!!
Very sad news from Perry, I just received a call from Ron...... Uncle June collapsed and died today in his garage. Services are pending, but they will be next week, depending on when family can return. We all send our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies to Peg and her family. More information will follow as soon as things are decided.

Tryon Christmas This Sunday, December 2nd!!
At the Glidden Methodist Church, the meal will be served at 1:00 p.m. That's THIS SUNDAY!!. If you wish your kids to receive gifts, you must bring your own. No names are being drawn Santa will be there to pass gifts out. Special Santa gifts and presents for the kids are a Tryon tradition. Please bring your own drink, table service, a hot dish and a cold dish to share with the family. Let's all have a great time. (Fun Family Games are encouraged) No auction or program are planned that I know of. We will pass the hat for the church. It is important for the family to share these precious moments together, so please make a big effort to attend.......let's make the Folks smile! Merry Christmas!!

A Warm Thanksgiving Greeting From The Highwayman!!
Randy sends his warmest Happy Thanksgiving greetings from Michigan as he is driving the Iowa Stars Hockey team around the Midwest. He also has been driving Barack Obama around Iowa and is scheduled to drive Hillary Rodham next month. Randy and family plan on being at the Tryon Christmas, we hope to see you there too!!

Aunt Helen Is Hospitalized!!
From Jim: Auntie Helen is in the hospital with a bladder infection and a bruised back after a bedroom fall. No broken bones. The infection is a type that does not respond to oral medication, so is being administered through the veins. This procedure is not considered serious at this time. (as always, our thoughts and prayers are with Aunt Helen and the Florida Clan) UPDATE: The report on Auntie Helen was not as good as originally thought. She has 3 compression fractures of the lower back. No operation is planned and time is the only healer. Six to eight weeks is the latest estimate. I will keep you posted on her condition as it evolves.

Deb Stoneman Spends A Week In Rome!!
Deb, on a business trip, was sent to Rome, Italy for a week. Here are a couple of pictures. Wow, she must not be in education anymore! (I've had teacher in-service for a week, oops, I guess it was only a day but it seemed like a week) Pictures are of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, The Coliseum, and St. Peter's Square.

Happy Birthday Mom!!

Jim Hulsebus To Undergo Surgery!!
Big Jim from Florida is going to have a major operation on his knee. The left knee has 2 torn meniscus tendons. The inner tendon is torn badly and the outer tendon is torn less but needs repair also. The procedure is scheduled for November 28th and he has a sports doctor who works on the Devil Rays, Bucs and Lightning working on it....Good Luck Jim....get ready for the golf season!

Colorado State Champions!!
Susie's oldest son, Johnny, is a member of the Legacy High School Marching Band. Legacy took first place in the Colorado state band competition. Kristina, Susie's second oldest daughter, is a member of the Pomona High School Band. Pomona's HS band has taken first place for the past several years. Legacy High School is a new high school and have now taken over first place in the state band competition. Johnny and Kristina are the grandkids of GT and Sandy. Congrats to Johnny, Kristina and Susie. Go Legacy and Pomona!!....Now here is the REST OF THE STORY: Johnny’s band, the Legacy Lightning Marching Band, took first place in State competition on Saturday, October 20th. Kristina’s band, the Pomona High School Marching, took fourth place in Semi-finals. Finals were cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. Kristina was devastated and Johnny was apologetic for winning since Pomona’s bus broke down and they didn’t get a chance to win back their title!! Click Here for pictures and an article.

Tanner Is Moving To Chicago!!
Great News and Congrats!! Email from RT: "Tanner is being re-located to CHICAGO! He has built the Houston L.A. Fitness area up and now they want to have him work on the Chicago area. Tanner reached #1 in the country on district area sales (Houston area) for L.A. Fitness and received a standing ovation when he gave his speech at the recent national LA conference in Los Angeles. Tanner has been the VP over seeing 12 L.A. Fitness centers in the Houston, Texas area. He will move to Chicago early 2008 and will be working in the Chicago East area. Tanner will be home for the Tryon Christmas :) :) :) :) " It will be great seeing him at The Tryon Christmas, Dec. 2nd, MAKE PLANS TO ATTEND!!

Tough News From Perry!!
Gosh, we all hate to hear this, but I received the following from Cousin Ron: "Dad was outside mowing and trimming Monday PM (for the last time this season) and slipped in wet grass from the sump pump outlet. His hip is cracked. He came through the surgery 10-31-07 late in the day. They pinned, screwed and plated in the appropriate places. He is resting with a morphine drip at Methodist Hospital and will be through the weekend. After that he will be ambulanced back to the Perry Hospital for 4-7 days of rehab and then we will determine what is best for him and Mom for his care." "T" All of our thoughts and prayers go out to June, Peg and their family.

Enjoying The Fall In Iowa!!
I received the following from Deb (Maxine & Ray's daughter): "We were in Glidden last week and were able to catch up with Donna and Bruce. We were lucky and caught them while Julie, Brad and family were there too. It was fun seeing everyone and having our kids play with some of the Tryon cousins. Another highlight of the visit was a ride on the combine. You've never seen kids with such big eyes as when Emily and Alex saw the combine coming over the hill towards us. This is my cousin Paul's combine and he offered the kids a ride. They are still talking about how fun it was to see the corn shooting from the combine to the tractor and wagon that were driving beside them. Their other favorite outing was the trip to the Carroll A&W for root beer floats in memory of Grandpa Ray. This was our holiday trip this year so we'll miss the Tryon Christmas. Hope everyone is doing well." Deb

Great News!! Welcome Jordan Jay Tryon!!
Jordan Jay Tryon entered the world at 2:45 pm, Wednesday, October 10th. He is the son of proud parents Tyler and Christy of Carroll, Iowa and the brother of Tyra. Jordan weighed in at 7 lbs. 6 oz and is 20 inches tall. He is the grandson of Jerry and Jerilyn, in fact, he is grandchild #7. All are doing well and everyone is bubbling with excitement. Gosh, another JJ.....great news.

Tailgate This Saturday!!

Janet and Dale are hosting a tailgate get-together, Saturday, October 13th before the Texas game. We will be serving food from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00. Game starts at 11:30. We will be located just East of the ISU tents in section C-4. Just look for Janet's newly made flag (see photo below). It will probably be the only "white" flag in the lot?? Also, call Janet's cell phone number if you have problems finding us. Email Dale for the number. After the game, you are all welcome to come to our house (for chili and birthday cake) for Jodie's 50th birthday.

Jerry And Jerilyn Are Moving!!
Well, I think they already have. Congrats to Jerry and Jerilyn, they have sold their house in Lake View and have bought one in Carroll. Going "home" to retire, I guess. It is on the golf course, so JJ is selling his mopeds for a golf cart. Now, he will REALLY be tough to beat. Congrats to them both, a much shorter commute. The house is located on the same road they used to live on, back in the 1980s. What goes around comes around.

Dale's Baseball Team To Be Honored!!
The 1957 Buena Vista Championship Baseball team is having a reunion on Homecoming weekend at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake. I think it is this coming weekend. The Fighting Beavers qualified for the NAIA National Baseball tournament that year. Congrats to Dale and the Boys.

Tryon Christmas Will Be Sunday December 2nd!!
After polling most of the immediate family, we have reserved the Glidden Methodist Church for Sunday, December 2nd at 1:00 p.m. So please make plans to attend. We moved the date so we can avoid some of the Sunday School Christmas programs. Special thanks to Maxine for handling the church's calendar and signing us up. Look for more information as we get closer, but let's make this a great Christmas celebration of family and friends.

It's the hated Mad Cows (Warren) vs the lowly seeded Mudders (Bruce) in the Tryon Baseball League 2007 World Series. They will battle all week for eternal glory and a nifty championship banner. The Mudville Nine took out the #1 seeded Norwalk Nerds (Chad) and The Cow Bellies took out #2 seeded Yankee Pride (Larry).....Good Luck.....Go Mudders!!

Welcome Cyler Jacob Kaufman!!
At 1:47 p.m. today, (September 17) the big guy arrived. 8 lbs. 2 oz and 21 inches of ISU Cyclone linebacker. Born to Julie and Brad Kaufman and brother of Cole and Camden, Cyler (a K sound) arrived just in time to celebrate the Cyclones BIG win over Iowa. Congrats to all of the Kaufmans and their extremely proud Grandpa Bruce and Grandma Donna!! Everyone is doing very well and a picture should be uploaded soon. Such a joyous occasion for Julie, Brad and their family!!

Aunt Marj Passes Away
In her sleep, on a Sunday afternoon, she was 99 and was scheduled to go home this Thursday.
Services are September 19th, Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Episcopal Church in Carroll, Iowa.
It is on Adams Street in the area of the old high school. Visitation will be from 9:30-10-30 a.m. at the same church. Burial will take place in the Glidden cemetery.
A luncheon will be served at the Methodist church in Glidden, after the internment.
May she rest in peace.

Tailgate At The Big Game!!
I got the following email from Dale:

Anyone is welcome to join us at a tail-gate party before the ISU/Iowa game. We will be in section C-4 (as near to ISU tents as possible). This is in the biggest parking area between Hilton and the Football field. We will be there from 10:00 to 11:00. We will have a small ISU flag on top of our car. If you can't find us, just call us at 231-6136 (cell phone). We will furnish drinks and sandwiches. Pass this information on to your kids. Janet and Dale.

Golfers Hack Around Coon Rapids!!
Gaylord, Sandy, Dale, Janet, Larry, Dick, Jerry and Joel Shanner had a great time last Sunday as they hacked their way around the Coon Rapids golf course. The weather was just gorgeous and it was great seeing a family favorite, Joel Shanner from the old neighborhood. Special thanks to Tyler for helping us to enjoy our 4th, Four Person Best Ball tournament that we played in this summer. One of the highlights of the summer. Thanks Tyler!!

Welcome Jersy Ann Tryon!!
Jersy Ann, born 8-28-07 at 1:22 AM. 6lbs 6oz, 20 inches long. is the daughter of Wendy and Todd Tryon and Grand daughter of Jerilyn and Jerry. The very proud grandparents are on their way up North to visit with her and the proud parents. Welcome Jersy and congrats to Todd and Wendy!!! (she looks pretty precious to me)

Donnie Wins In Golf!!
Donnie (the world's oldest shortstop) won the Bill Tryon Memorial Golf Championship by shooting a blazing 74 to win the title by 5 strokes!! Eric won the silver medal (79) and Dale (81) won the bronze. A great time was had by all and a very, very special thank you to Jerry. Jerilyn and Tammi for all they did to make this a wonderful, wonderful day!! Great food, some neat surprises, the kids had fun riding around in golf carts and some very good laughs. Thanks to all who attended.

Marj Is Moving!!
Aunt Marj (99) is moving into the The Carroll Manor nursing home. This is the same one mother was in and Sandy now works with. Marj leaves the hospital and goes to the home on Monday.

Golf Fun Day Is Sunday!!
The Bill Tryon Memorial Golf Outing is Sunday, tomorrow at 10:00 a.m....Weather should be perfect. We are trying to keep the cost WAY down, so no auction but there will be prizes. (only $10 green fees, I think) No posting of scores, so no one will be embarrassed, just a fun outing, but a trophy does go to the low score. Come have a great time and ALSO enjoy the shower for Christy. See you there.

Sunday Is The Shower For Christy!!
Don't forget that this Sunday is the shower for Christy and Tyler. It will be held between the golf rounds around 12:00 p.m. at The Hill, near Grand Junction. Jodie Takes New Job!!
I got the following email from Doug. "Guess what? Jodie is joining the ranks of the k-12 educational professionals in the family! She has been hired as a Speech-Language Pathologist for AEA11, in the Roland-Story School District! Jodie will serve the elementary school, middle school, and high school. This is quite an opportunity for her and an answer to our prayers for a job that will allow her to continue to spend time nurturing Melody. I think the best part, from Jodie's viewpoint, is to have Christmas break and summers off!" Doug. Congrats To Jodie!!

"I just got back from a great 3 day swing with Senator Obama. Tonight I met Hillary Clinton in Cedar Rapids where all the big democrats met. My big news is that the state of Texas Governor has asked for 500 buses to prepare for hurricane Dean coming. It is midnight (SATURDAY) and I am heading home to wash a few clothes and then head to San Antonio. I will be help evacuating 1/2 million people along the coast. We are to stay anywhere from 4-10 days with big pay. 12 Windstar buses are making the trip. Yipee, I do get to take the Hawks football team on Aug. 31st, Sept. 1 & 2 to their first football game in Chicago.

Aunt Marj Is Hospitalized!!
I received the following email from Warren........"Marj has had a heart attack and is in the Carroll hospital. Her condition is very iffy...hour to hour or day to day. Just very hard to predict. Please keep her in your prayers. She is in room 338.".......We all wish Marj the best, she is 99 years young. Tuesday Update: Marj very good tonight...Tuesday. Eating and sitting up....WW

Sioux Falls Storm Win Third Championship In A Row!!
Todd, former player and now assistant coach, helped celebrate the SF Storm Arena Football Team's third UNDEFEATED season in a row as they won the United Bowl 62-59 with 7 seconds remaining. The Storm trailed the entire game, until a pass was completed in the end zone in the final seconds. This makes 39? wins in a row, a professional team sport record in the USA. Congrats Storm. Tryon Gym is the official training site of the SF Storm.

Visit the western trip page to read the summary and to enjoy the pictures of the latest Shiloh Boys adventure. WW and DBT took a quick four day trip out West to investigate forts and battle fields. We saw 6 forts, 2 battlefields, 1 Indian Holy site, 1 western saloon and a workout center. In every place, we were the only people there, except for whomever was running the museums or information center. We had these historical places almost completely to ourselves. Click Here To View. Baby Shower For Christy Tryon!!
Tammi and Wendy will be hosting a baby shower for Christy Tryon during the Bill Tryon Memorial Golf Tournament, August 26th, at The Hill in Grand Junction. The golfing starts at 10:00 a.m. and the shower will take place during the lunch break at 12:00 p.m. All non-golfers are encouraged, remember, FREE FOOD and a nice place to host this. A chance to get away before the summer ends. "Any women can still golf or ride in a cart and taunt the guys. First lady to show up gets to pair up with Larry. Ladies who don't wish to golf can still come early to visit, play games or throw off the golf game of a guy of her choice. Christy and Tyler don't know the sex of their baby, but are registered at Target and Wal-Mart. We hope to see everyone there for a last get together of the summer. Announcing The 2nd Annual Bill Tryon Memorial Golf Tournament!! The second annual Bill Tryon Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Sunday, August 26!! An end of the summer bash!! It will be played at 10:00 a.m at The Hill near Grand Junction. A Calcutta auction will begin at 9:45, if we have one. Prizes, a traveling trophy, great food and a great time are guaranteed. We will flight the golfers so anyone could win. We have confirmation from some of the northern nephews. Let's get as many family members to attend as possible!! Food will be provided. After the first nine holes, we will have grilled burgers and a picnic, then play the second nine. You do not have to bring anything, except a little cash. Green Fees are $10, I think and there may be a small entry fee, plus Calcutta auction money if you wish. Let's have some fun!! Women will play with women golfers. Prizes will be won for 1st, 2nd and 3rd of EACH FLIGHT. Maybe more, depending on number of entries. If You Are Not A Golfer, Come Eat With Us Anyway!! Food should be served around NOON and they have a very nice picnic area, so bring the kids! Weather should be very nice!! Let's get together one last time this summer!! Beth Takes New Job!!
Congrats to Beth Watson, daughter or Nancy and Warren, as she has been hired as a COUNSELOR/ACADEMIC ADVISOR at Northwest Community College in Sheldon, Iowa!! Her job starts August 15th and not only was she selected for this position last week, but she also received her Masters from Morningside. Way to go Beth!!

Zach Tryon Wins Silver Medal At Iowa Games!!
Zach, son of Tim and Kim, and grandson of Larry and Jan, won a Silver Medal in the Iowa Games a weekend or so ago. His Story City 10-9, 4 X 100 sprint relay team finished in second place against ALL classes and ALL sizes of schools. Fast Zach was the leadoff runner. They also made the finals last year!! Zach's baseball team finished a sparkling 14-0 with help from his coach.....Papa Tim.....Congrats and way to go Zach!!

Brett's Basketball Weekend.....
Brett's team won the Iowa Games for the 2nd time in three years on Saturday. The team was made up of former UNI and Wayne State players. They won by 16 pts. Brett then played in the finals of the Capital Basketball League in Des Moines and his team finished second. The summer league is over and Brett finished 2nd in the league in three pointers and shot an amazing 60% from the field. Congrats Brett, it was a wild weekend.

Sioux Falls Storm Crush The Record!!
The Sioux Falls Storm that Todd is an assistant and former player and strength coach for, set a PROFESSIONAL sports team record of 34 straight wins, passing up the LA Lakers. Last night, the Storm won 34-9 to keep the streak alive. Go Storm and congrats to Todd!

Good News From Cousin Ron!!
I got the following email from Ronnie: "I know Jim H reported that Dad was having some health issues at the 4th picnic. The results showed it was a gall bladder attack. They did a sonic procedure and blew up a gall stone last week. On Friday Dad was feeling so much better and the Doc asked if he had ever considered having his gall bladder removed. They took it out Saturday morn at 8 and sent him home on Sunday at noon. He looks great and feels so much better. They have released him to eat any thing, do anything, lift no more than 10 pounds, even mow the yard if he wants AS LONG AS he does every thing in moderation. Hope all is well with you and you are having a great and safe summer. Football is just around the corner!!!!!!!!!" "T"

Another Great Time At The Lake!!
Someone counted 61 people having a wonderful time celebrating the Fourth of July. Donna and Bruce hosted the annual Tryon picnic by the lake. Bean bag contests, card games, boat rides, swimming and lots of food and laughs were served. Our newest member, Jadon, had his baby shower and it turned out to be perfect weather. A Beautiful Day!!
On Sunday, the Coon Rapids Country Club hosted a 4 man best ball golf tournament. Tyler puts this thing on. There were 100 golfers and 25 teams. Dick, Randy, Bruce, Jerry, Dale, Gaylord, Larry and Jim Hulsebus all had a great time, with lots of laughs and cussing. It sure was great to have Jim join us. The tournament was a huge success as the weather was just perfect. The team of the young guns won some money, by shooting a 65, even though the youngest player was 53!!

King Of The Road
I received the following email from Randy and he asked me to post it.
"RJT still has it! My new job is driving a motor coach nation wide & for the Iowa Hawkeye sports programs.
Following are a few of my adventures so far....I took 51 women to Newark, Ohio where there is nothing but Longaberger wicker basket stuff everywhere. (see photo below) After 3 days together with this bunch of ladies we developed a great connection. They gave me a $170 tip at the end and already told Windstar Lines they want me as their driver on their next two trips. They told me I was FRIENDLY, PATIENT, AND FUN! I got to drive 4 days for the pro golf tourney in WDM and met lots of people (saw Donna, Bruce, and Sandy) In mid June I had an assignment to drive to Newton, Iowa, but was given no details. When I arrived there I was met by the FBI, Secret Service, and Highway Patrolmen. I was to drive Barack Obama from Newton to Pella!!!! I was there plenty early & it is was to check out my bus for possible threats, check my background on the computer (yes I was nervous when they ran my name through the computer) and to get my instructions on what to do. Obama is coming back to Iowa July 3rd and 4th and already requested me as his driver from Des Moines to Keokuk!! I received a nice tip from him the first go around & he also sent me a personal thank you letter a few days ago. Yesterday a Secret Service person called me and gave me my next details........Obama wants the "white boy" with the 50's hair cut to be his man?!!!!? (my words, not his) Wow, maybe I will be driving for the next U.S. President??? Last Wednesday I took a bank group from southern Iowa to WDM to see Garden Guru: Jerry Kluver (Earl May). He took us around Des Moines to see million dollar homes (Rollins home for one) and their landscapes. We all ate together at the Olive Garden at noon and what a day seeing these impressive homes, flowers, pools, etc.! Jerry Kluver said he was going to mention us on his Sunday morning Channel 13 show. This weekend I am in Milwaukee and Chicago driving for the Des Moines Menace pro soccer team.July 9-14, I take a group to near Canada on a fishing/camping trip. Wow, I get paid each day and get to fish too!!! I had a very nice Father's Day weekend. On that Saturday Tanner, Travis and I went to a Sioux Falls Storm football game and on that Sunday Mandy joined us for a backyard grill, swim, and lots of love! In mid July, I volunteered my talents for summer vacation Bible school at my Lutheran Church of Hope. I will be daily working with over a 1,000 1st-3rd graders. I am still learning the Bible so my offerings will be in recreation & crafts for these little ones! Also, I am serving food at a weekend event in late July that my church is having. My house goes on sale July 1st.........Take care to all & I will monthly have updates on my new job & my situations.....Randy Joe"

Come Celebrate At The Lake!!
Don't forget to make plans to enjoy the fun and the sun on July 4th at Donna and Bruce's lakeside home. There will also be a baby shower for the newest little Tryon, Jadon Paul Lohrman. Jadon is resting up for the day, so maybe you should too. (see picture) The food will be served at noon. Sioux Falls Storm Goes For The Record!!
Todd is one of the coaches (and played for years) and trains the team at Tryon Gym. The Sioux Falls Storm is about to set an ALL-TIME PROFESSIONAL SPORTS team record of 33 wins in a row. They need to defeat the team from Colorado this Saturday night. Tickets lately have been nearly impossible to get. The current all-time record is held by the Los Angeles Lakers. Wow, 33 in a row and still going!! What a run, congrats to Todd and the team. Photo is where the team plays. They have three home games remaining this season, then the playoffs, so a chance to keep the streak alive!!!

Defiance To Celebrate 125 Years!!
Defiance, Iowa will celebrate their 125 year birthday around Labor Day. Cousin Jim T. is heading back to Iowa and hopes to see some Tryons there celebrating too. Others remember the wonderful time at the Centennial, with Mom, Dad, Brother Ray and many others taking part in sharing the memories and festivities. Don't forget to mark this on your calendars.

What A Sap!!
Sap Of The Month Award goes to Grandpa Dick and he feels really, really sad about it. The other day he volunteered to baby sit grand daughter Alexis (3 1/2). During the two hour ordeal the tornado sirens went off in Nevada. Like the responsible person he is, they both went downstairs to watch cartoons and play. (Grandpa likes to play) Well, about 20 minutes later it looked like the storm had passed, so Grandpa went upstairs to check on the radar and an update, telling Alexis to watch cartoons, Grandpa would be back in a minute or two. Well, 5 minutes later Grandpa returned to discover Alexis hunted around and found a pair of scissors. She exclaimed, "Look Grandpa, I have cut off my hair. " Gulp, She sure had. Huge chunks of that long, blonde, beautiful cowgirl hair was all over the floor. Nice job of babysitting Grandpa, what a sap. Gwen took her the next day to a stylist and that long hair, ain't no more. Grandpa is feeling kind of low........

Welcome Jadon Paul Lohrman!!
Congratulations to Sara and John as they celebrate and enjoy their first born. Donna and Bruce are grinning from ear to ear too as they welcome another grandchild. Jadon was born on June 14th, Flag Day (future president?) at 3:55 pm and checked in at 7 lbs. 4 oz. and 19.5 inches tall. All are doing very well. Congrats to all on this very joyous occasion.

We Want YOU.....July 4th At The Lake!!!
A Tryon tradition, hosted by Donna and Bruce for decades, and the biggest gathering of the year. It's almost time for FUN IN THE SUN at The Lake. "Let's make this the biggest turnout ever!! Make your plans now to attend the annual 4th of July family reunion at the lake--dinner at noon--(let's let Uncle Dale lead the line?) Please bring your own table service, a hot/cold dish and a dessert?, and drinks. --lemonade will be provided. We hear Dick will come this year, after having a "slight excuse" last year--he had his appendix out the next day! He said he was hurting!!--we didn't believe him! There will be a kiddie swim pool set up--and some games. Brett Is Drafted!!
Brett was drafted to play in the very prestigious Capital City League this summer in Des Moines. Each team must have 3 current Iowa State basketball players, 3 current Drake players and then they draft the rest. Brett went in the first round he was available. There are 6 teams and they play Sunday, Wednesday and Friday nights. Click on the photo to view all teams and players. John Wayne Centennial
Winterset Iowa celebrated the 100th birthday of John Wayne. Dale and Janet attended and said it was a wonderful event, especially the parade. Click Here For A Slide Show created by Dale. Some of his family members attended and a Wild West Show was held Saturday and Sunday at the fairgrounds. A ground breaking ceremony was held for a John Wayne Museum.

At last week's Awards Day Ceremony at NHS.............Four, that's right, four students were honored for perfect attendance for this current year. (We have nearly 500 in high school).....As their names were being read to come on stage and pick up their awards, 2 were not present and unaccounted for.....Believe It Or Not......

Larry, yes I said Larry, is teaching a computer/Global Positioning class to fellow bus drivers. High Tech Larry? It's unbelievable so Believe It Or Not....Now, this is not saying a lot for the Ralph Cramden crowd, but isn't Larry the guy who keeps losing his screen? (he accidentally minimizes it) or Isn't he the guy with the Holiday Gas station computer? and Isn't he the guy who idolizes Ed Norton? (Art Carney) Something just is not right here or is Larry making TREMENDOUS strides in improving his technology IQ? Way to go Larry!! So if you need computer help, just call LT......collect.

It's Summer, Baby!!
Dale, Janet, Donna, Bruce, Sandy and Gaylord kicked off the summer by playing in this year's first golf tournament. It MUST be summer!! It was a husband and wife shootout near Algona. Gaylord had trouble staying out of the sand, was the rumor. Highlight was when Donna and Bruce drove up to the golf course, their cell phone rang and it was GT. He was running late and needed directions in a hurry. Donna tried to help him, but it turned out GT and Sandy were parked right next to them, laughing.... (Nice job, Donna) Seems GT and Sandy were there hours before the tournament began, probably practicing those sand shots.. Click Here for a few pictures by Dale. A great time was had by all.

Always Supporting The Troops!!
Jeff Morris, who is recently engaged to Pat (Tryon's) daughter Jill, is being shipped back to Afghanistan. His deployment will be for the next 6 months. He has just enjoyed a few weeks on leave in the good old USA. Please pray for his safe return and happiness. God Bless All Of Our Brave Men And Women who protect our freedoms everyday and in everyway!! Our best wishes to Jeff and Jill.

Going For A World Record!!
Crazy Donnie, one of the 3 D's, is going for a Guinness World Record by trying to make the world's largest rubber band ball. I am not sure how far they have to go, but they sure have a good start. Next time you stop in at Sportsman's in Spirit Lake, add to the ball. Good Luck, fellows!!

Heading To Tennessee!!
The Florida Clan, consisting of Aunt Helen, Big Jim and Nancy H are heading to Tennessee for the summer. They would love to have some visitors, so bring golf clubs and fishing poles. The doctor gave Helen the OK and they will arrive on May 13. Enjoy the beautiful Smokey Mountains and they are getting closer to Iowa!

News Alert From Florida!!
I got the following email from Cousin Jim and the Florida Clan:

Dick, please put on the Tryon page that the Florida Clan's move to Tennessee for the summer has been delayed.

Last weekend Auntie Helen went into the hospital again with internal bleeding and severe weakness. She was given 2 units of blood and went thru extensive testing. The results were inconclusive and the source of bleeding was not located. She made a strong recovery and was allowed to return home. She is going thru more tests this week. The doctor says that it may have been a small leak that healed itself. If tests are positive this week, we will go to Tennessee May 12th. I'll keep you posted on any change of plans. Have a great summer......Jim

Congratulations Tyler!!
Great News! Tyler has been hired to manage and operate the Coon Rapids Golf and Country Club for the 2007 season. His contract runs from May 1st thru October 31. Coon Rapids golf? Man, does that bring back fond memories to me and I am sure many other "old timers". C.L. used to play golf with us there, as well as Bill, Ray and Don Peters. It was the BEST of times. I witnessed Jim Tracy get a hole in one on that short par three. Everyone would make the run down to Coon to play golf in those days. Many of us were members. Remember the airplane taking off from one of the fairways? Remember the good old "real" malts from that dairy queen? I think they made a movie of us back in those days. (see photo) Congrats to Tyler. 13,000 women are gathering in Des Moines at the Wells Fargo Arena this Friday and Saturday for the 2007 Amazing Freedom conference, sponsored by Women Of Faith. What an Easter surprise!! Julie and Brad announce that they are expecting a little bundle of joy around late September. This will be child #3, so look out Cole and Camden. Donna and Bruce are the VERY proud grandparents and best wishes to all. Man, is that stork getting a workout this year.......

A Wonderful Easter Sunday.......
It was a classic, Norman Rockwell, Easter Sunday at the Watsons. Easter egg hunt, cute Easter dresses, super food, beautiful music by Melody, great conversation, wild card games, just very precious moments. What a day! (and Zach Johnson won The Masters, too) Special thanks to Beth (Little Nancy), Melody, Nancy, Jodie, Deb, Terry, Doug, Brett and Warren from DBT, Gwen, Alexis and Cassidi. Over 12,500 Take Communion
and Brother Randy helped as an usher. Click Here To View The Video. The West Des Moines Lutheran Church of Hope is renting out Wells Fargo Arena for Easter Sunday and expected more than 8,000 people to take communion and worship this weekend. There were traffic jams galore!! Randy is helped to set things up after a hockey match and then volunteered to tear things down after the church services. He also volunteered to be one of the ushers that day. Randy has been very active in this church the last few months, by helping with their Feed A Million Food Drive, attending ministry groups and enjoying the services every Sunday. The Watsons and RT's family have also attended this extremely active church. This Church advertises quite a bit on WHO Radio. Nice job Randy!! Praise The Lord. Alex Stoneman, son of Deb and Scott, has won the VERY prestigious 2007 Tryons.com NCAA Basketball Contest. He defeated 34 other basketball wizards. 2nd went to Wendy, 3rd to Jerilyn, 4th to Dale and 5th to Brett. It was an exciting finish as Beth would have won if OSU had won the final game. Happy Birthday Aunt Helen!!

Wow!! Aunt Helen turns 95 today (Saturday) and she sends her best wishes to all of her friends and family in the Midwest. With Jim, Nancy and many friends, Helen had a big birthday bash at her old retirement complex in Florida. Balloons, cake and lunch were shared by all. Since she continues to improve from her recent illnesses, Helen has been living with Jim and Nancy. She plans on joining Jim and Nancy in Tennessee for their summer vacation, the first week in May. Sioux Falls Storm Win Opener!!
It's a sure sign that summer is on the way as the Arena Football season begins. The SF Storm defeated a team for the Chicago area. Todd is an assistant coach and former player for the Sioux Falls Storm, Arena Football League Champions for two years in a row. They opened their season last weekend and won their 21st straight game. Tonight, they play at Billings against another league champion. The Storm are going for a three-peat, trying to become 3 time Champions. Todd coaches the wide receivers and is their strength and conditioning coachs. Go Storm and continue with your great success!!

I know there is a lot of snow on the ground, but I also know that Larry is counting the days until Golf Season Is Here!! Jerry has even sent in his dues for The Hill. Dale and Janet have taken a quick video lesson. So not to be out done, DBT has found the ULTIMATE GOLF TIP WEBSITE. This site has over 600 short video clips to improve YOUR golf game, not that anyone really needs any help. Now I know these people swing a lot like me, but even I (and Randy, champion of the Bill Tryon Memorial) could use a tip now and then. Winter Hits Carroll County!!
The Carroll and Glidden area received from 18-22 inches of snow last weekend. It took days for the highways to become unblocked. Here are a few pictures from Glidden. Elk Horn and Lake View really got hit too. Many schools closed for quite a few days.

A Classic Photo!!
Warren's Dad served with the 30th Infantry in World War Two. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and crossed the Rhine River into Germany. The deepest into Germany he got was a city called Magdeburg, Germany. His Dad traced his exact route through the city on a map and it was part of his Dad's WWII artifacts. Warren has been building a wonderful web site, honoring those who served with the 30th, The Old Hickory Division. Click Here To View. There are tons of information on this site and Warren even sends out a monthly newsletter to members and friends of the 30th. Warren has been internationally praised and some of his information from his web site is now appearing in books and documentaries! He has gained many friends and contacts in Europe. One such historian recently took a current photo of the exact site and road that Warren's Dad traveled in April of 1945. It is on the Elbe River, which is the deepest penetration of American troops during the war. The Soviet Union troops were on the other side. Wow, this photo is a classic and hats off to WW for building such a wonderful web site. This is why he has made two trips to the National Archives in Washington DC. Isn't the Informational Age great?

Would You Like Some Ice?
Iowa got hit with a nice little ice storm over the weekend. I thought those suffering in Florida, Arizona and Texas would like to remember what winter in Iowa can be like. We got over 8 inches, but the ice was a problem. Some of Nevada lost their power, I have no phone service, but it really was nothing like Colorado gets. It is quite beautiful, except for the downed branches. Here are a few pictures taken from my deck and front door. The winds hit BEFORE most of the ice or it really would have been a terrible mess.

More great news from the Great Northwest as Christy and Tyler make the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT. The new bundle of joy will join sister Tyra, in late September. Congrats to Christy, Tyler and Grandparents Jerry and Jerilyn. What great news!! Is there something in the water in Sioux Falls? A new competition with Todd? Hey, I am running out of stork graphics!

Tryon U Trivia Team Shines Again!!
The University of Tryon Trivia Team finished in 13th place out of 37 in last Saturday's Nevada Trivia Night. Our score of 845 was one of our highest. A TU Junior Varsity team made it's debut and scored 695. Another All-Star group of NHS students tried to knock off the UNDEFEATED TU Team and they only scored 775. One more competition left, Saturday March 24 and it will be the end of the line of the original TU team, who have competed for a year and a half. They will really be missed.

Happy Valentine's Week!!
Camden and Cole are celebrating Valentine's Week, are you? Thanks to Julie for sending the pictures of Donna and Bruce's grandkids. Donna and Bruce are in sunny Arizona enjoying the weather. They spent this weekend hosting Nancy Shaner, Joel's sister and remembering all of the great times growing up in Glidden. Nancy currently works for a federal judge. News Bits
Randy stopped by Wednesday and we had a great time rooting for the Hawkeyes (they actually won) and RT surprised me with a real treat. It was January 31, the 16th anniversary of brother Ray's death. (Man, has it been 16 years?) We toasted his loving memory with A&W Root beer floats, then told classic stories about the good ol days, it was a super time!.......Donna and Bruce made a quick trip back to Iowa, either last weekend or this weekend to celebrate Sara's birthday. Just in time for the below zero weather. I bet they drive fast back to Arizona. Tyler is moving his family to Sioux Falls and Randy, Jerry, Todd and Lynn are going to help. Then RT is going to enjoy the Super Bowl at Jerry's with Travis and friend joining them. The Watsons are visiting Beth in Sioux City this weekend. I sure hope the Florida Clan dodged those tornadoes that hit Florida this week...Larry called the other night to say, "Go Bears!!" and Congrats to Lucille Peterson on her birthday, we all hope she had a wonderful day, she turned 92.

Make A Wish.....
Jack Tryon of Glidden received a very, very nice riding lawn mower as part of the Carroll "All I Want For Christmas" program. Sandy, his sister, submitted his name. This will allow Jack to mow lawns in the area and to gain more mobility. Jack is doing very well since the move to Iowa. Any more specifics or photos about this story would be appreciated as I have just heard bits and pieces. Debbie sent me a newspaper article and picture.
