A Tryon Christmas

A very special thank you to our gracious hosts, the Watsons. It truly was a wonderful and memorable time. Our thoughts and prayers went out to all who could not be there, we were sure thinking of you and missing you very much. It is so great to see everyone, especially the little ones who grow and grow. Christmas truly is a special time of year. The food was great as always. Doug won the prune cake all-you-can-eat award. (He kind of cheated and sent a message to others when he went for the dessert first! This kind of threw Dale's unique strategy off, of being first in line, but Dale was seen recovering with the chocolate dessert and other goodies piled high.) DBT was disqualified when someone had to show him how to make a prune cake, he is soooo spoiled. We had a wonderfully new Santa this year and he was super. There was the usual battle for the good chairs, DBT tried hard to never move or was he moving so fast that it just seemed to others that he was NOT moving? hmmmm think about it.

WW led our family auction for the 4th year? He got a little grumpy, but didn't last year's auctioneer (Dale) get that way too? Tryons just will not listen or follow orders very well, a proud family trait. The auction is so fun and special. Dale emptied his garage again, JJ sat there the whole time not bidding, but Jerilyn seemed to make up for it. Tanner ended up getting the velvet painting for the 4th year in a row. Two highlights were Dale bidding on his own ISU helmet magnet that someone had removed from his jeep and Barb bidding against herself. When she hit $59 on a $25 picture of the Pagoda at Red Wing, Dick protested and she responded with a loud $85 bid. Gulp, Dick could not complain too much since that little incident with Barb ending up at the bottom of kiddie pool last July.

Steve generously donated a beautiful charcoal painting (see pictures) and a drawing was held. The lump in your throat moment occurred when a VHS of 1991 Tryon Christmas was shown, and here we all were in the Glidden basement, such memories! The Folks nearly had us all in tears. The "little ones" are now all in college or graduates. Seeing Bill dressed as John Travolta and GT looking about 37 and DBT reminding everyone of Saddam Hussein's capture photo, it was great. Wow, very special moments...........thanks to all and a very Merry Christmas!!
