WE HAVE MOVED!!!!!
This may be permanent or temporary, but
because of the size of this website, it is becoming too big to
manage. (13 years of stories) So, another site has been made to
handle the current news and this one will remain for our old
news. This will give me some time to maybe fix the problem and
you still will not miss any news. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Tricky
Dick's Bowl Bonanza Is
Up!!
The 2010 Bowl Bonanza
contest is ready to
rumble. Same rules as
always. This is one of
the BEST contests of the
year, so make your picks
and don't be shut out.
Last year it was Tricky
Dick The WINNER, with
Alexis second, Bryce
third, Tytan fourth and
Eric fifth. It was a
very exciting race. As
always, we pick against
the spread to make it
more exciting and
competitive. The favored
team is followed by a
{-#}, if it is a -3,
that means the team is
favored by 3 points.
Missouri is favored over
Iowa, -1. Deadline is
Tuesday, December 21
before the first major
bowl game. |
A
Wonderful Afternoon...
I had a great day,
yesterday. Dale came
over and spent the
afternoon in Nevada. (I
think Janet had bridge
club?) We both have read
a new book on Coach
Vince Lombardi and last
week, HBO, had a super
90 minute documentary
called Lombardi. It
really brought back some
great coaching memories
for the both of us. We
also synced up our IPADS
and had a royal battle
of Scrabble. I hate to
say that Dale won by a
few points. I had a big
lead until he played the
word "quiet" for mega
points. I was stunned.
Who would believe that
Dale even knew that
word? Dale? Quiet?
Anyway, Cassidi (age 5)
gave Dale some tips on
how the IPAD works and
the girls had fun
playing music and
showing some of their
games to Uncle Dale.
It was a wonderful
winter afternoon, lots
of popcorn and tall
tales. Dale's eye
surgery seems to be
improving. Dale was in
great spirits has he
even got paid his NCAA
Fantasy Football Contest
winnings, a cool $40.

The Next Generation Of
Basketball!!
On RT's recent swing back to Iowa, he made a BIG effort to watch and
enjoy some high quality basketball played by Zach (Tim's), Nicole
(Tim's) and Max (Tammi's). They are all doing VERY WELL. Here are a
couple of photos. Zach is in 8th grade, Nicole is a sophomore, and Max
is a sophomore, I think. They are all having a GREAT SEASON, and I am
sure there are others hitting the court. (ex. Melody) Photos by Randy.
Send photos, or info and I will publish them on this site.

Trick
Or Treat!!
We had a memorable Halloween night in Central Iowa a couple of weeks
ago. Gwen and Grandpa took the girls around town on a beautiful autumn
night. Johnny stayed home and ate the candy. (We had no trick or
treaters, maybe Johnny should have turned on the porch light?) Gwen
dressed as an escaped convict, which is interesting as we live close to
the Story County jail. Alexis was a super tough "Batgirl" and Cassidi
went as "Jesse", the cowgirl toy from Toy Story. (no problem for her
finding cowgirl stuff to wear). Grandpa went as an over the hill,
overweight, coach and teacher. He was easily recognized by most and he
was proud of all of the exercise he was getting until it was pointed out
that he consumed way more calories than those that were burned. It sure
was a fun and special evening.

First

The University of Central Missouri Mules football squad will
play
West Texas A&M this Saturday at 1:00 p.m., in an NCAA-II playoff game at

NCAA Playoff appearance in school history (2002), and the first home
playoff game ever at UCM. The Buffaloes (8-3, 8-2 LSC) are in the
playoffs for the fifth time in the last six seasons. The Super Region

Tough Loss For Mules!!
Mules
football saw the outright
MIAA football
championship slip away in heartbreaking fashion Saturday afternoon at
Walton Stadium-Kennedy Field, when the defending league champion and
NCAA-II national champion
Bearcats
of Northwest Missouri State scored as time expired. A 45-yard field goal
sent the Mules to a
17-16 defeat in front of a record breaking crowd of 13,096 on Senior
Day.
The loss was the first in nine conference games
for the Mules, who came into the game ranked sixth in the
AFCA D-II Poll, while their overall record slipped to
9-2.
The Mules, who were second in the regional
rankings
last week, will be idle next Saturday (Nov. 13th). Mules expect to
receive a spot in the NCAA-II Playoffs starting November 20th, with the
official announcement coming on Sunday, November 14th.

BIG
GAMES THIS WEEKEND!!
Glidden continues it's run at a state title, The Hawks go to Indiana and
The Clones have an epic game with Nebraska, but the BIGGEST of
all might be taking place in Central Missouri. The 9-1 Mules take
on Josh's old team, the NWMS Bearcats of Maryville for the championship.
The Omaha World Herald has a GREAT article on Josh as he takes on
his old team.

Feeling
Good!!
In the historic mid-term election of 1994, the Republican "Revolution"
picked up 54 seats in the House Of Representatives. It was such a huge
take over, it was highlighted in history text books. Last night, it
looks like the Republicans gained 65 seats!! The largest mid-term
gain since 1932 and largest ever since 1948 presidential year. Wow, and
the Republicans made huge gains in governorships and the US Senate. In
Iowa, no more Culver, those three State Supreme court judges are kicked
out, but half of Iowa has not figured things out yet. Come On, Man!!
Republicans made big gains in state legislatures across the US, too. I
just love John Kasich, the new governor of Ohio, Rubio in Florida and
Rand Paul in Kentucky. So I hope many of you voted. Obama's big agenda
has to be at least slowed down. Just think, no more Nancy Pelosi. It
feels pretty good. Maybe now congress will read the bill before voting
on it. |
Tales From The Great White North (Dakota)
First off, The HIghwayman is making a quick trip to Iowa this weekend
for the first day of hunting season with his boys. A quick trip to the
dentist too and a few other loose ends to tighten up. Second, RT sent
the following stories and pictures:
"My Key Oil
Company boss was driving home after work and hit this male moose
coming out of the ditch going 70 mph at night. He had no chance to miss
it, totaling his 2010 truck! In the last 2 months, 3 moose have been
killed just east of where I live!!!!!!! The other picture is very
amazing as this elk was shot in North Dakota, also nearby and while
taking the picture a hungry mountain lion was approaching to this
freshly killed elk not knowing of the hunter or the camera in the area!
Amazing, but true! These pictures were in the major papers up here! Still
a blizzard today until 6 pm. I made it to work & lucky to have only a
training classroom workshop! I will be a teacher/trainer for all the new
hires in the next 6 months.. Kind of like a driver's ed instructor as I
have to ride with & evaluate skills on my assigned potential Key
employees! Take care from the tundra"........RT

Dale Spends Night In Hospital!!
Dale spent Friday and Friday night in the Mary Greeley hospital with
severe kidney stone problems. He has been taking pain pills every 3
hours for 9 days. After a rather major procedure, Saturday morning, the
doctors
promised he would be dismissed before the 11:00 a.m. ISU kickoff. He had
one heck of a time getting the bureaucracy taken care of in time. He did
get to see one of the greatest victories in ISU history today as the
Clones shocked Texas. Dale is home, but he still has some major issues to
face. |
BIG GAME !!
UNION 28-14 over VINTON
8-0 Union, La Porte City (Todd and Sherry's) vs 4-4 Vinton-Shellsburg
(Tammi
and Craig's and Max) I got the following from Todd Parker:
Hey this is Todd Parker from La Porte City.
I just wanted to let you know there is a big game tonight for
Union La Porte’s Team (8-0) again Vinton Shellsburg’s (4-4). This is
at our brand new field. We are district champs for the 1st
time ever and 1st seed in the playoff’s but got stuck
facing Williamsburg and Solon in the 2nd and 3rd
rounds, they will be tough. The Tryons (Todd, Tyler, Jerry) all
know our coach Joe Hadachek from Drake & BV. He has a cool web page
www.followtheknights.com. He has taken over our program 4 years ago and
has had them in the playoffs the last 3 years in a row. His son
is Trev (soph) is our starting quarterback. I think Max plays on
the soph.game. Just before the varsity game. We have a
outstanding running back Wes Burnside (Jr.). Last week against the
other top team in the district, Marion, we beat them for the 1st
time ever, 45-39. It was their 1st regular season loss
in 3 years. Burnside had a school record 318 yards on 57 carries.
Have you ever heard of a back having that many carries before. We
think it was a state record. He now has 1916 yards for the year and
needs just 84 to past 2,000. He is the state’s leading rusher in all classes. I
think some he is getting some looks from some D1 schools.
Should be another fun night to watch some HS football,,,,,,
Ain't football fun? Max is the starting QB on the sophomore team and
I think they do play right before the varsity. People tell me Max is
doing very well in lots of sports. Another big game tonight is
Glidden vs Coon Rapids in 8 man. |
Baby Shower!!
Jenna and Brett are going to host a baby shower for Beth and Ryan on
December 11 at Jenna and Brett's new home in WDM. More information
and formal invites will be on the way as the date approaches. |
First
Place, Baby!!
DBT's Trivia Team brought home the first place prize last Saturday night
as they defeated 44 teams in a big battle of brains. Each team consists
of 8 players, we only had 7, but we won going away. (60 pts) This was
our first victory , but we have finished 2nd three times and third
twice. It was great fun, with two former students (now ISU Cyclones) on
our team. This is a fund raiser for the school and it is done 4-5 times
a year, from Oct-March. They charge $12.50 per person and you can buy 5
mulligans for $5. Some of the categories were: History, Geography,
Are they Dead or Alive?, Sports, The Price Is Right (grocery prices),
Current Movies, Name That Tune, Answers With Red, White and Blue etc. I
did not know one price is right (Geeze, I just buy) or current movie and
the only singer/tune I got was Dinah Shore, but I did not know the name
of the song. If anything happened after 1975, I am weak. I did
know the name of the Stadium where the NE Patriots play, but we missed
which major golf title did Arnold Palmer never win?. My best, pure luck,
correct answer of the night was: Who was the manager of the 1969
Miracle Mets?

Cousin
Jimmy Makes Quick Trip To Iowa....
Eh, a little too quick according to the Iowa Highway Patrol. Jimbo was
given a speeding ticket for going 71 in a 65 MPH zone....Geeze,.... nail
the guy with out of state license plates...... Is this Governor Culver's
way of fixing Iowa's budget woes? Unbelievable and Jimmy T is a
professional driver. Anyway, Jim had a great time, with great weather
and got to see Ron, Bob and Peg and I am sure some others Better slow it
down a little Jim, you are not the only one who has run into this cop.
Now was Jim in a hurry to get to Iowa or in a hurry to leave? (Actual
policeman is pictured.). |
More Computer Troubles!
Sorry, again, but DBT had a major scare from Friday until Sunday night.
It looked like his hard drive was crashing. Friday morning, after
updating the birthdays, I noticed it was RT's birthday that day. So when
I went to put that up, I discovered that I could not find my
Frontpage 2003 program to make changes. The program had disappeared from
my desktop and everywhere else I looked. I finally found it, hours
later, Friday night. I called my computer boy and he spent the next two
days doing tests on my hard drives. (I have two) Nothing is conclusive,
so we have no reason why this happened. Sorry for the outage. (This has
nothing to do with the changing of the servers a week ago.) Ain't
technology fun? |
Emily's Dad Is Doing Great!!
Emily's dad, Norm, was involved in a farm combine mishap and broke his
hip last Sunday. He had surgery, with pins put in and is now at home.
All reports are that he is doing very well, but it is difficult for him
to get around. Everyone says what a really nice guy he is and we
wish him the best.. Some say farming is the most dangerous occupation on
earth, so stay safe, especially this time of year. Our thoughts and
prayers go out to Emily, Norm and their families. |
