Big News From The North!!
Dan and Connie have some exciting news. I got the following from Connie:
"Dan has sold the Cardio Plus Health Club Membership base to the YMCA and he has accepted a position of the Wellness Director at the Y, effective November 1st!!  This is a great and very exciting time for us!!  This position will include personal training and adult classes. What this means, is that Dan, Donnie and David still have the building along with two other tenants.  The "Y" has the option to buy the building in the future - and they will rent the space as an additional area to work out.  Dan will continue with the Les Mills Body Pump class (that he loves). The Y had a Staff Meeting Sunday night and introduced the newest employee.... and Dan came strolling out of the back of the stage of the Sami Arts Center.  No one saw this coming and it created a lot of excitement.  As Dan and I sat in the back of the stage we couldn't help but laugh that we never thought of ourselves as hiding out on a stage in the dark!  Kind of like "Mission Impossible"!!... very fitting!  It has been on the radio all day today (Monday) and Dan has been very busy answering lots of questions and has gotten great feedback.  It's surprising how many people have belonged to both clubs at the same time.... and now they can go to both for one fee... pretty cool!  Needless to say, this is a very big deal - a very positive thing for us and for everyone in the community."
GREAT NEWS!! Congrats to Dan, Connie and everyone else. We always like to hear super news like this!!
Donna/Bruce Buy Town House In WDM!!
After zillions of trips to Central Iowa and Illinois to enjoy their grandkids, the Stevens have purchased a fix'em up town house in West Des Moines. They will keep their home on the lake, at least for now. Donna says, "it needs a lot of updating. Anyone need an old, rusty garbage compactor, very old cupboards (one with rusty breadbox inside it?), intercoms in each room, hanging globe lamp, stinky old carpet in bathrooms and kitchen? A room in the walk-out basement has light blue walls and painted white clouds on the walls. The boys want to make a basketball court out of it!" Sounds like the decor came from that 70's show. Isn't Brad's favorite TV show where they fix up someone's house? Well, here you go. It will be great having them closer and I am sure the little ones will love having Grandpa and Grandma around more. Great News!!
BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!!
More Great News from  Eastern Iowa...... Brandon Tryon, Cindy and Mike's youngest son and grandson of Bill and Sally, has announced his engagement to Kelsie Edwards from Fort Wayne, Indiana! The wedding is planned for Chicago in late summer or early fall of 2011. They are both University Of Iowa grads and have been dating for over three years. Welcome to the family, Kelsie and Congrats to all.
Give Me Some Ol' Time Religion.....
The Highwayman attended a Bill Gaither Gospel Music Concert in N.D. last week. He said it was just super with many of the performers you see on TV. RT really likes his new job!! Great News from the Wild West or is it the Great White North?
Mudders Win!!
The Mudville NIne (Bruce) defeat the Fat Boys (DBT) 191-139 to win the Tryon World Series!!
FINALLY!!
Our family web site has been down for over a week. I have had to move it to another hosting company. It seems to be working again, but be alert for small issues. Sorry for the inconvenience. This is the 4th time the site has been moved since 1998. I appreciate your patience.
Welcome Audrey Renee Tryon!!
Born to Michael Jr. and Courtney, a very beautiful baby girl. She arrived on 9/23 at 4:58 a.m. and checked in at 6 lbs. and 11 ounces and she is 19 inches tall. She is the first for Michael Jr. and Courtney and the first grandchild for Mike and Cindy!! She is Bill and Sally's great grandchild. Congrats to all, this is GREAT NEWS!! More pictures to follow....
Bruce Finishes Second In Club Championship!!
Bruce missed his golf club's match play championship by ONE STROKE a couple of weeks ago. He lost to a former student, he coached, on the LAST HOLE. Now we all knew Bruce was a great teacher and coach, but I guess it came back to haunt him as he just missed being club champion. All that golf in the winter in Arizona has really brought Bruce's golf game to a higher level. Congrats Big Guy!! (they say he plays the course like he knows every green, tree, hole location and blade of grass out there....hmmm)
Saturday, December 4th Is The Tryon Christmas!!
Last Sunday at the picnic we decided on a date for the Tryon Christmas. Maxine then contacted the Methodist Church in Glidden and it was confirmed that Saturday, December 4th will be our celebration. Please make plans to attend. More details to follow. Maxine also reserved the new Glidden shelter house by the swimming pool  for our July 4th celebration. So put that on your calendars, too. Thanks, Max!!
Oh, My........
The insurance rates in Story County just got higher as Nicole turned sweet sixteen and NOW HAS HER DRIVER'S LICENSE!!! So take extra precaution as you drive in Central Iowa. Zach was the first to ride with her and notice he took his bible with him!! Congrats, Nicole, this is very exciting news!! Tim and Kim are really proud!!
A Great Time At Glidden!!
The weather was beautiful and it was a great day last Sunday in Glidden. It is so much fun to go back there. A big thanks to Randy for setting this up and a big thanks to JJ for all of the grilling that he did. I would say there was plenty of food and great conversation. The Iowa fans were not too arrogant, except for maybe the cake that read Iowa 35 and Dale 7. Randy wore a cowboy shirt from Brokeback Mountain? or did I see it on a Slim Whitman album cover? Dick showed off his high tech cell phone. (Warren appeared jealous) Tyra spent her time texting boyfriends, Jerry kept checking the NFL scores (hmmm, I wonder why?) , Tanner kept cruising the town on his motorcycle, looking for chicks and the rest of us had a great time with the food and the weather. Click Here For A Slide Show and I apologize there are so many pictures of Grandpa's girls, he kind of gets carried away and most of the pictures were not so good because of the bright sunlight.
Tryon Homecoming Is Sunday, September 12th!!
To celebrate the end of summer and the kickoff of the football season, RANDY (who is making a quick trip back from North Dakota) is hosting a Tryon Homecoming Bash, Sunday at 12:30 p.m.  What better place than the Glidden park to have the Tryons get together?!! Randy has reserved the shelter house and will supply some meat/appetizers. He is bringing buffalo and walleye from North Dakota (OK, you may want to bring your own burgers and hot dogs to grill.). Glidden has a beautiful park and a GREAT place for kids to play softball, kickball, baseball, basketball or football, so bring some stuff for your kids or grand kids. This will be a post-Iowa-ISU party so no gloating or pouting. This is a picnic, so you need to bring a cold dish and/or hot dish etc. Maybe utensils and lawn chairs would be a good idea, too. We NEED to get together as much as possible so try to make a big effort to come join us. It is always so fun to watch the kids growing up. The weather was not so cooperative July 4th, so hope to see you and your family Sunday, September 12th!

Birthdays And Bumper Cars.....
This month we celebrated 3 birthdays and went to Adventureland in Des Moines to top off the month..... Alexis turned 7, Cassidi 5 and Johnny got older too. We went to Adventureland on the park's last regular day (a Monday) and there were NO LINES. In fact, on the bumper cars they just said if you want to ride again, go ahead. Needless to say, we all had a great time with lots of laughs and excitement.  A special thanks to Jodie who found some tickets for us. We all had a blast on a beautiful August day. The girls are excited to go back again. Alexis rode the Tornado and drove her own bumper car. Cassi almost got sick on that pirate boat that swings really high. Gwen rode the most rides and Grandpa and Johnny ate the most and we all got wet, numerous times. CLICK HERE FOR A SHORT SLIDE SHOW and try to count the smiles. This is pure Americana.

* Archaeologists think they have discovered Cleopatra's Temple and maybe tomb....underwater near Alexandria.
* After unearthing worker's quarters, historians now believe that those slaves that built the Pyramids, were NOT slaves, but hired workers.
*The National Education Association had on their calendar of cultural events, honoring the celebration of Mao Tse Tung's Communist take over of China.....Oh, it is believed that Mao is the second biggest mass murder of the 20th century. He killed tens of millions of Chinese. No, Hitler is NOT #1, it is Joseph Stalin of the USSR. Hitler is third.
* I see some town in Virginia is putting up a statue of Stalin to commemorate the D-Day landings at Normandy. (Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin).... No Soviet troops took part in D-day........I cannot make this stuff up.....

Liberty Passes......
One of our cocker spaniels died today. Liberty, who was born on the Fourth of July, died at age 13 human years, I think. My little girls are very sad, but handling it pretty well as they are cowgirls and have seen animals come and go. Grandpa just took Liberty for a walk, she needed rest every 50 feet (Grandpa every 100) and she died on the front steps when we returned. She has been really struggling recently and this was not unexpected. She was a great dog for us, with many adventures up at Red Wing. We will all miss her.
Way To Go Carri!!
Carri Kistner, Mary Jane's daughter, has been hosting families (Team Canada) for the Big League Softball World Series in Kalamazoo, Michigan for the past five years. Her daughters, Carrington and Mackenzie, are outstanding softball players too. One of them started on the varsity high school team as a freshman catcher a year or so ago. Click Here To Read The SUPER ARTICLE featuring Carri and her family. This sure makes us all proud!! Way to go Kistners!!
Poor Jerilyn........
Jerilyn was babysitting at Tyler's house this week, when suddenly, she heard tapping at the patio door. It was pretty late and she was quite nervous when she saw a deputy sheriff in front of the glass, standing with his flashlight and drug dog. He asked if the owner of the house was home. Obviously, Tyler and Kristi were not. The policeman informed Jerilyn that there was a VERY LARGE patch of marijuana growing in the back yard and was she aware of it? "Eh, no." Jerilyn responded as she hid her wine cooler behind her back. They walked to the back yard and there certainly was a VERY LARGE patch of hemp, mixed right in with the other weeds. Tyler (pictured) had purchased the house last winter. Seems the former tenant forgot to move everything. The deputy sheriff had an 8 foot high wooden fence between himself and Tyler and he was in his backyard entertaining when someone noticed the "weeds" extending above the fence. I would not call this crack police work. Seems Tyler is not what you would call a landscaper, either. Anyway, there is a big discussion on how to destroy it.  Jerilyn seems to be calming down and now Tyler and Kristi have to withstand all of the teasing. Tyler could be nominated for Sap Of The Month, but his brothers, Todd and Lynn have already won it, so mellow out.......Hmmmm, Tyler has been driving a pretty nice car, recently......Nah, nobody is dumb enough to grow pot next to a deputy sheriff......unless the former owner was. Oh, and I have been informed that the picture is of the former owner, not Tyler.
Sap Of The Month?
A couple of weeks ago, A TEAM OF TRYON golfers entered the Sioux Falls Storm golf tournament/fundraiser. On the team was Jerry, Tyler, Lynn and Donnie. They finished SECOND overall in the Championship Flight!! Only one stroke from winning it all, they shot A BLAZING 15 under par with a couple of eagles thrown in. (Jerry holed one shot from over 160 yards away!) Todd (that is him teeing off while wearing a hula skirt) played on an opposing team and a great time was had by all. (Obvious if you click on the pictures) One of the highlights of the outing concerns the always unpredictable, Fun Time Donnie (that is him showing off for the beer girl?). During the tournament, Donnie hit his ball into a lake. and In true Donnie fashion, he decided to hit it out, that is IF he could find his ball. He took off his shoes and socks and waded into the dirty, cesspool type lake, trying to find his $3.00 ball. Instead, he finds a 12 inch night crawler. He lifts the night crawler up and shows the fat, slimy, wiggly thing to the others.. Lynn immediately offers to pay Donnie $20 if he would eat the whole thing...(Wait a minute, somehow was drinking involved?)...Donnie thinks about it for quite a while, but declines.....Everyone starts to call Donnie, chicken, wussy, etc......then Todd offers another $20......Donnie is really thinking hard, but says no way, this huge worm is really, really gross......Another golfer adds another $20.....and the Don Man accepts the challenge......Yes, Donnie has never been one to turn down a dare.......Needless to say, it was a very slow process....bit by bit....the worm is consumed....(Kids, DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME)......Donnie almost pukes....there is an argument of who would get the money if he does...he starts to turn different colors....(anyone remember Cool Hand Luke eating the eggs?).......Well, Donnie did it....What a MAN......and he made $60.......but does he qualify for Sap Of The Month?.....Don't be too hasty......hours later, Donnie confessed that he had actually won the gummy worm at Adventureland a few weeks before, it was a candy worm....HEH HEH HEH.........So who are the Saps now?......Congrats to Todd and Lynn for being our Saps Of The Month......and I imagine that other golfer is trying to find Donnie......a classic Tryon Fable.
Kinnick Stadium Gets A New Sponsor!!
Wow, great news, and more Tryon Pride as I got the following email from Mike:
"All Iowa Hawkeye fans ... The "Tryon" name will be on the big screen this football season.  Our Tryon logo will be displayed at every home game (lower left corner display). Look on the jumbo / main scoreboard. Go Hawks (except Cyclone game)!" Michael W. Tryon, Investment Advisor Representative (I am not sure if this is the correct logo, but it could be. Now, let's get a TEAM TRYON logo at Cyclone Stadium?!) (We already own Tryon Field in Sioux Falls!!)
Deb Has A New Type Of Hawk Watch!!!
"Well we're experiencing a new meaning to "Hawk Watch" this summer in Ohio. We have a hawk who has been around our yard the last six years and has now found a female friend, built a nest and has taken over our back yard. This is a picture of our new neighbor as we look out our kitchen window. I'll take Herky over this hawk any day!" from Deb S, Ray's daughter (This HAS to better than watching Buckeye droppings.)

Congratulations Mike!!
Mike, last week,  passed his Series 65 test, which will register him as an Investment Advisor Representative (Advisory services offered through American Investment Services, an SEC Registered Investment Advisory Firm).  This will allow his company to manage securities under an asset-based fee arrangement (Financial Planning) – Individual & Business.......... Nice Job, Mike!! Click Here For More Information at His Company's web site.

The Stokkes Have A Wonderful Trip Out West!!
Cowboy Doug, Jodie and Melody just got back from a great, family vacation to the Black Hills and Yellowstone Park. (Remember the 1959 or 1960 two car caravan of the Folks and many of the rest of us?) (Doug and Jodie got out of Iowa just in time to miss a few storms, but their property didn't. Tim and Kim had some light damage, too. Dale was without electricity for 12 hours!) The Stokkes did things like horseback riding near Jackson, watching Old Faithful erupt,  hiking around Devil's Tower and rafting down the Snake River. If anyone is interested in seeing a sequence of photos as their raft ran the "BIG KAHUNA" rapids, (named after Dick? who has done this three times) then go to www.floatographs.com, then select "Dave Hansen Whitewater" - July 20" and click "find."  Then, scroll down to the row that reads "2010-07-20  130 Dave Hansen Whitewater Deuce."  In the sequence, watch for two things: 1) Jodie and Melody getting drenched in center of boat and 2) Kid at the right back going over the side. Doug is the guy in back left with white ball cap. Here are some more memorable pictures.

Cousin Skip Is Heading To Iowa!!
Pat Slusher (Densmore) wrote that she is anxiously waiting for Skip and his daughter Tammy to arrive from California. They are coming back to attend Cousin Karen's (Densmore) daughter's (Wendy) wedding. The wedding is this weekend, July 24, at Mitchellville, Iowa. The reception is at the Shriner's Temple in Altoona.
Deb In New York City!!
Debbie S, who was in London earlier this year, has now been sent to NYC by her company. Here are two pictures, one of Deb in front of the Statue of Liberty and the other at Times Square. She is there for the week and is staying at Times Square. Wow, now does this mean another volcanic eruption is eminent?
Latest From The Highwayman....
Here is the following news from RT......"I met Dan, Connie, & Kate Sunday night at Connie's brothers house in Williston, ND.  Had a great time with a great backyard grill out!  Connie's brother had a 1954 Plymouth that he bought for $900!  Everything was original!  What a steal he got! As you know I work for Key Energy Services and this company has contracted for 5 years with Hess Oil Corporation!  The Bakken Oil Region has a projection of adding 20,000 new oil sights in the next 3 years!  This area is like Iowa adding all of their wind turbines!  Oil rigs going up everywhere here!  I have been to many off road trails delivering my 120 barrel loads!  One barrel equals to 42 gallons of water!  80,000-90,000 lb loads.......  I'm driving a new 2010 Mack tanker truck & I will send u a pix of it in a day or so...My job is like a James Bond one!  Lot of do's and don'ts.  I have to wear:  fire retardant clothing, a H2S monitor (which detects fatal Hydrogen Sulfide gases), impact gloves, hard helmet, ear plugs, safety glasses, and steel toed boots!  Tight security in and out of the rig areas!  My job consists of delivering fresh water to the drilling sights (in a tanker truck) which then the water is being used for drilling and for cooling down the bits!   I will lose my job if I have a cell phone in the area as this could cause a spark, thus igniting the explosives used in the "fracing" process! Take care." RT
TRYON PRIDE!!
We just LOVE IT when a member of our family is successful at what they are doing..  CLICK HERE  to read the three page article from the Sioux Falls Argus Leader praising Todd (son of Jerry and Jerilyn) for the outstanding work he has done this season for his businesses as well as his community. (It was the front page story in this week's paper. Included is the Storm's latest fight? song.) Go Storm!!
Rocky Mountain High!!
"Jan, Eric, Shonna and boys just spent a great week in Colorado Springs right after the Fourth of July.  We saw lots of sites....Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Olympic Training Center, Air Force Academy, Manitou Springs Cliff Dwellings, Seven Falls, ate a Chuck wagon dinner and enjoyed a cowboy show at Flying W Ranch and even got to take the boys to their first ever major league baseball game to see the Rockies sweep the Cardinals!  All went well...the one 'glitch' of the trip....when we arrived at the Pikes Peak Summit it was 28 degrees, snowing, and DENSE fog!  So much for the view from the top!!!!  But we can't complain...there was so much BEAUTIFUL scenery we enjoyed all week.  And Maxine....we even saw an A&W in Manitou Springs!!!!!!  Sounds like lots of Tryons have had many great memories in this area!   Have a great rest of the summer! " , Shonna. Sounds like a great vacation. I remember Ray's family and C.L.'s youngest having a chuck wagon dinner, too. I think ours was at or near the Garden of the Gods. Wow, do those pictures bring back lots of great memories!!
SF Storm Defeat The Wichita Wild 52-34!!
They will now take on Billings next weekend in Montana. The Storm will play for the 2010 Indoor Football National Championship. (Last season the Storm had to forfeit 5 games and were banned from the playoffs although they were defending champs) The Billings Outlaws are the defending champions. Gooooo Storm!! Congrats to the owners, Todd and Wendy!!

The Fourth Of July Celebration Was A BIG HIT!!
Even though the rain moved us indoors, it was another GREAT time up at The Lake. Special Thanks to Donna, Bruce and their family for hosting the social event of the year. It was great seeing so many who drove thru the rain to get there. Always great to see Jim and Nancy H. as they came all the way from Tennessee. Lots of babies there too. It was great fun watching Mr. Technology (Dale) show off his new iPad to Hulse, which is like Jethro Bodine telling Jed Clampett how to use the pool table. Now who taught Dale how it works? Does he appear a little confused? All of the food and all of the stories were wonderful to digest. A Great time by all!! Thanks again, to the Stevens and to all who made a big effort to attend. (Photos by Bruce, my camera has seen better days)

Sioux Falls Storm Defeat Chicago 47-33!!
The Storm play Wichita next Saturday night for the Conference Championship!! Walter Payton's son (former Tennessee Titan, Miami Hurricane and Canadian football player) scored one TD. Go Storm!!!!
Dana College Is Closing Down!!
DBT and Randy spent a couple of years there and many Glidden kids have gone there, but not any more. The private Lutheran college is closing it's doors due to financial problems. Hate to hear this as it was a very nice place with special people. This makes the SECOND college that RT attended that has closed. (Are you old enough to remember Westmar?) Is BV next?  Click Here For Story.
Green Bay was upset last week, so Sioux Falls now plays the Chicago Slaughter, owned by former Bear QB Jim McMahon! (pictured) The Storm are now the number one seed in their division. Go Storm!!
Welcome To Tryonville!!

Have you been to Sioux Falls, lately? There are Tryon signs EVERYWHERE!! RT, JJ, Jerilyn and myself went to the Sioux Falls Storm playoff game Saturday and I saw Tryon Gym signs and logos everywhere I looked. On the field, on T-shirts, on the uniforms, on the sidelines, they dominate the advertising. What a great time we all had. There were tornado warnings in the area. During the National Anthem, when the singer got to "and bombs bursting in air", there was a HUGE clap of thunder and all of the lights in the arena went out. The people kept singing. The lights came on shortly. Todd, the owner of the Storm, must have planned it that way as The Storm were running onto the field.. We had the best seats in the house and we all had such a great time as the Storm scored right before the half to make it 7-6 against their arch rivals, the Omaha Beef. The final score was 42-23 in favor of the Storm, who now advance to the next round against Green Bay at Sioux Falls.. Gooooooo Storm!! A big Thanks to Todd for showing us such a memorable time. (photo by Randy) Notice the Tryon Gym sign in the background as Todd discusses the pre-game strategy.
The Oil Man Returns!!
RT is getting back from his training in Texas on Friday and he has quite the tales to tell. Three weeks working in 105 degrees, killing a water moccasin, dodging spiders and working with oil has him bursting with interesting stories. It was not all work, though. He got a tour of Texas Stadium, watched the Dallas Cowboys practice, saw the birthplace of Dan Blocker (Hoss of Bonanza fame), saw George Foreman's home, the Jim Reeves Memorial, saw real wild hogs and toured the Fort Worth Stockyards. The highlight of his site seeing was going to Billy Bob's. Randy took his family there 25 years ago and Tanya Tucker was performing, so he goes back and guess who was up on stage singing? Tanya Tucker, believe it or not. The Highwayman is back for the weekend, then heads to North Dakota. He sent the following pictures.

Have You Seen The New ISU Football Poster??!!

July 4th.....Fun In The Sun!!
Weather permitting, Donna and Bruce are going to graciously host this year's annual picnic by the lake. (remember, last year's celebration was rained out) They REALLY need to know how many plan on being there, so please email Donna if you are coming!! Click Here. This has been such a wonderful tradition thru the years, with so many memories. It is such  fun to watch the kids grow. All are welcome, just let Donna/Bruce know.  Please bring a hot and cold dish, your table service and maybe lawn chairs. Lemonade will be provided. The picnic starts at noon.  Keep your eye on the weather. Hope to see you there!! (Beth says she may not be able to play spoons this year?!)
Movie Review.....Robin Hood
About a week ago RT and DBT went to the movies. The first time since they went together to see Young Frankenstein in 1974. DBT was so impressed with Blazing Saddles that year (he even took the folks to it) that he and RT drove to Des Moines to Young Frankenstein's Premiere. One of the greatest movies ever made, by the way. (Click Here For The Trailer) This time it was Robin Hood, with Russell Crowe. Pretty average movie we thought. (Man, how many Robin Hood movies has Hollywood made?) This was Memorial Day evening and I was stunned how poor the crowd was. Movies must be in big trouble. The story was quite different than the others and I thought Maid Marion was poor. My big take on the Robin Hood legend is: The original Robin Hood was an anti-tax guy. Prince John taxes the heck out of the common folk and they rebel. In the 1930's, Hollywood came up with the rob from the rich and give to the poor angle, which is right out of Karl Marx's philosophy. The left does not like the anti-tax spin, so they changed it to anti-rich. This movie WAS anti-tax, but at the very end, Maid Marion says how wonderful life is in Sherwood Forrest, there are no rich and no poor......Geeze, Comrade Marion....where is the incentive to work, produce and create jobs? Who wants to live in a commune? Ever hear of the Rev. Jim Jones?....Sorry, I get wound up with idiots who believe the big fairness lie.....Anyway, I would wait for the DVD. So I wonder what movie RT and I will see the next time.....in 36 years?.....Rocky 25?
More Wonderful, Wonderful News!!!

Brandon Tryon Shoots Hole In One!!
With his birthday in just a couple of days, Brandon, son of Mike and grandson of Bill and Sally, shot a hole in one last week. From the Iowa City paper: "Brandon Tryon made a hole-in-one Thursday at Saddleback Ridge's hole No. 12, witnessed by Michael Tryon Jr. and Dennis Tallman." Way to go Brandon, I am sure Grandpa Bill will be smiling!!!
Dale And Janet Are Back.......
They had a nice and pleasant trip back from the Tennessee area. They had a great time at Jim and Nancy's. (I can speak from experience what great hosts they are!) Lots of sites and adventures for Dale and Janet. You can see more pictures at www.daletryon.com  Dale got to meet Abraham Lincoln, went to a Cardinal game, they saw a man arrested (he was cooking their breakfast) and Dale backed into a pole. (Janet's fault?) There is no truth to the rumor that Dale was buying a race horse and trying to duplicate what those investors in Iowa did, by racing a horse in the Kentucky Derby. They did get lost a couple of times when Dale refused to listen to his GPS and insisted he was right..... Imagine that.......Welcome Home.
Josh And Mandy Have Settled In......
Their big move from Oklahoma to Warrensburg, Missouri is now completed. Josh has been hired as an assistant coach for the University of Central Missouri. He coaches the receivers and is their recruiting coordinator. Warrensburg is SE of Kansas City. The Mules are in the same conference as Northwest Missouri State, so his former team mates and coaches have been giving him a hard time that he is now a Mule. The two universities are big rivals. Click Here For UCM Football Page  and Click Here For Josh's profile. Go Mules and Jennys!!
I Lost A Good Friend, Yesterday.....
Mary Uhlenhopp, a fellow teacher at NHS and wife of my old 8th grade coach Darwin Uhlenhopp died of cancer on Wednesday. She was a very good friend and part of my teacher group, which gets together every few months. She taught Special Ed and was a BV graduate, just a couple of years behind me. Mary and Darwin were at my wedding, attended both Mom and Dad's funerals and were at Ray's, Bill's and Larry's too. Dale and Larry knew Darwin very well and always remarked what a great coach he was. Mary reminded me so much of my sisters. She was always laughing, just loved garage sales and was an outstanding mother, teacher and friend. She was from Coon Rapids and I always teased her about what a joke Coon was to the rest of Carroll County. She would brag about Nikita Khruschev's visit of the Garst Farm in 1959 and I would point out that he never came back, did he? My last year of teaching, Mary sat in the back row with one of her students and had great fun laughing at my bizarre teaching techniques. I ask lots of questions and she sometimes would shyly raise her hand with the answer. My last day, she led a standing ovation for a cute little thing I did with history. I had her son and two daughters in class and not surprisingly they were really great kids and students. She will truly be missed and reminds us all how fragile life is. She was looking forward to retiring, when the cancer hit a year or so ago. She was able to enjoy her daughter's wedding, just this month. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Darwin and their family. A big Tryon salute to the Uhlenhopps. God Bless Mary and her family.
Sofia's Baby Shower will be June 5th!!
There will be a baby shower for Sofia Dianne Stevens on Saturday, June 5th at Julie's in Waukee. It will start at 3:00 p.m. Julie and Sara will send out invites soon. So save that weekend. Congrats again to Chad and Emily on their beautiful baby girl!!
Glidden Receives An Award.....
Guess who is chosen as the town's representative? Why it is our very own Maxine!! Click the picture to read the article from the Glidden Graphic. Thanks to Dale for spotting this. Maxine has been working for the city for quite a while now and last week was visiting Debbie in Ohio. Way to go, Maxine!!
News From Brettville And Beyond.....
Not only has Brett announced that he has taken a new coaching position, but here is more news from the land of Brett:
1) Brett and Jenna are building a new house in West Des Moines.
2) Brett has completed his Master Of Science Degree in Education Administration from South Dakota and receives his diploma on Saturday.
3) Brett and Tanner CRUSHED Josh and Travis in golf last week with Tanner claiming he has a REAL SORE back from carrying Brett around the golf course.
4) Rumor.....those bruises all over Travis' body were NOT made because of some pre-marital ritual.....It seems there was a big paint ball battle during the bachelor festivities and Travis wore only a T-shirt and everyone nailed him. I think it was Brett, Josh, Tanner and a few other militia men on the attack.

Welcome Sofia Dianne Stevens!!
Chad and Emily are the proud parents of a beautiful baby girl. Sofia checked in today (Wed) at 2:33 p.m. She weighed in at 7 lbs. and 13 oz. and is 21 inches tall. She has very black, curly hair. This is grandchild number 6 for Donna and Bruce. Dianne is Emily's mother's name. What great news!! (Grandma Donna is so excited that she TWICE gave me the wrong spellings, so no guarantees!)

Wonderful, Wonderful News!!
Beth and Ryan are expecting a bundle of joy in mid-November. This will be number one and the first grandchild for Nancy and Warren. Someone needs to calm Nancy down!! What great news. Congrats to Beth and Ryan.
Brett Is Named Head Girl's Basketball Coach!!
Brett has taken the position of head girl's basketball coach at ADM. He is following in RT's footsteps. Brett has been assistant varsity boy's coach for the past several years, with much success. Go Tigers!! Good Luck to Brett and Jenna!!
Travis And Lorrie's Big Day!!
What a beautiful wedding and everyone had such a great time. It was fun meeting Lorrie's family. They are very special people. Grandpa Dick was really proud of Cassidi as she walked down the aisle with the flowers and the ring bearer. The weather was perfect. The setting was a beautiful golf course. We even saw deer jump out right before the ceremony started. The food was great. The reception room was beautiful. It was fun watching the dancers. Especially the little ones. (Dale pulled another fast one, as he jumped into line before his table was called. (see pictures) ) What a great May Day to remember. Congrats to Randy, the very proud father and to all of the parents, relatives and friends of Lorrie and Travis. It was great to see Mandy, Josh and the Tan Man, too. Travis and Lorrie are heading to Hawaii. Best Wishes to the happy couple from all of the Tryons!  Here are a few pictures:
Believe It Or Not......
At ISU's press conference for new coach Fred Hoiberg, who do you think were sitting in the FRONT ROW?.....Well, check out this picture. Look REAL close at the crowd and you can see Iowa State's top fans!!.......Dale and Janet.....(there is no truth to the rumor that Dale has already given Freddy a list of things he needs to do to turn around the program).....Looks to me like Fred does have Dale's seal of approval.......Go Clones!!
Incredibly Tough Quiz....
Iowa State has announced that they are hiring Fred Hoiberg as their new Men's Basketball coach. So who is wearing their Fred Hoiberg jersey to work today? (Fred is a former ISU basketball star) Hint: At the half time of an ISU vs Iowa exhibition game in Carroll, Freddy was introduced with this person and he gave  him/her a BIG KISS!! The year was 1995. The Answer to the quiz is.......Julie (I know, Brett seemed pretty logical) Jerry and Big John rigged it so Julie could meet Hoiberg at a halftime presentation, so out on the court, in front of the crowd, he smacks her.....Wow......thanks to all for voting.
Tryons In Oregon!!
Dale found the following article about Tryons in Oregon. Not sure if we are related, but there must be a good chance as they came from Iowa. Click The Picture. I made it larger so it would be easier to read.
Bridge Over Troubled Waters....
What a great renter. Terry Goetz, who has been a long time renter of C.L's Crawford County farm has taken his bulldozer and made a land bridge across the creek that splits the farm. I can remember at least two bridges that were wiped out by floods. This is great news to all of you hunters, who can now walk both sides. WW was having his militia maneuvers and noticed the bridge. He took the pictures after testing out his new armament. Plastic buckets BEWARE......
The Highwayman Is Grounded!!
Well, for 9 hours anyway. Seems he was hauling  a big load back from Washington, when somewhere in Idaho he started to have troubles with his clutch. In true Tryon stubbornness, he tries to make it back to Des Moines. He even had to talk his way out of trouble at a Wyoming weigh station, when they asked him to back up and he couldn't. Our hero made it to Council Bluffs, where it took 9 hours to fix the problem, then he was back on the road. Picture is of the load.
Golf Tournament And Fund Raiser!!
Eric's Van Meter Football Program is having it's second annual golf outing Sunday, May 16th at 2:00 p.m. @ the River Valley Golf Club in Adel. There are lots of different divisions and flights. Deb S. Is In London, Enjoying The Volcanic Skies!!
Most of you have heard about the terrible ash that is all over England and Western Europe.  I just got the following from Deb: "Well, wish me luck. Beginning to experience the effects of the volcanic ash here in London.  We have not seen anything in the air as of sundown today. Read online that it may be invisible to the eye. Please start blowing really hard to the east to push this thing out of the way so I can fly home on Sunday"....Deb Click Here For Story

Travis Is 0-3.....
Travis tried to play 3 April Fool jokes on Lorrie. #1 was the old cellophane on the toilet trick. It took Travis about an hour to get it just right, but Lorrie saw it immediately. #2 was the old tie the kitchen sprayer down trick. That one did not work either. Then he tried #3, the tie a string to a paper plate in the closet trick, but that too was a dud. So who was the April Fool? Any surprise that this is RT's son?
Ryan, The Blue Devil. Wins!!!!
2nd Tyra, 3rd Alexis, 4th Warren, 5th Janet 2 Click Here For Final NCAA Standings!! Well, Ryan had to travel to Indianapolis and have a heart to heart talk with Coach K and The Blue Devils to make sure they knew that he had a lot riding on the game. They must have listened. Poor Warren, he leads the entire contest, then gets nipped at the end. It sure was a great contest and thanks to all for playing. IOUs will be sent out shortly.
Lorrie/Travis Shower Is THIS Saturday!!
The wedding shower for Lorrie (Travis) is This Saturday April 10 @ 11:30 AT Jerilyn and Jerry's home in Carroll,,, The guys will be meeting in the lower level of JJ's house, with the gals in the upper level.... Eats and drinks will be furnished, Travis will be there and the men can play cards/games/tv/exercise or just chat, while the gals have the shower upstairs.... Seems like the majority of the guys that Jerry has talked to want to exercise, so dress accordingly...LOL     It would help on food preparation if you could RSVP Jerry at jjtryon@yahoo.com
Donnie Wins!!
Yes, our very own Donnie, the world's OLDEST shortstop, won the halftime contest at the Sioux Falls Storm arena football league game last week. Donnie, age 50+, whipped all comers as he ROLLED to victory. If you look real close you can see the gray haired kid. There is talk of Donnie becoming the team's mascot or at least the halftime entertainment. Todd's Sioux Falls Storm are UNDEFEATED and are having a great year. Go Storm!! Donnie is UNDEFEATED too. End Of The Road.......
A couple of weeks ago, on a Saturday, I actually left my easy chair and drove to Lamoni, Iowa to watch Rick Weaver coach his last game. I thought it was very appropriate as I was there for his FIRST game in 1973 at Jefferson High School. Rick has been the head basketball coach at Baker University for the past 25 years and he previously coached at Jefferson HS (with Jerry and I), Westmar, Wayne State and then Baker. He has always been a great friend to me and to our family. The Thursday before his last game, Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas held a Rick Weaver Night for his last home game. The gym was packed, t-shirts were handed out and many, many friends and players were there to show their appreciation for his years of service to not only the school, but also the community. Before his last game, I had the opportunity to visit at great length with Rick. He is doing well, except he is having both knees replaced this month. He wished us all the best and hopes to get up to Iowa for some relaxation and golf this summer Rick and I shared a house back in our Jefferson days and we both have quite the stories to tell. Mine are true, but he has been known to fudge around the edges. I listened on the internet to the pre-game, game and post game of Rick's big night and I thought it was Mother Teresa being honored. Now, I remember him getting into it with AAU basketball opponents (pushing, then running away), spilling stuff all over rich KC Royals fans (numerous times) and always having me sneak in or out of our house when he was "entertaining" a lady friend or two. Mother Teresa? That can't be the Rick Weaver I know.  Rick may be the worse card player ever and he may be full of crapola most of the time and I constantly had to carry him on the tennis court or show him how to play "hustle golf", but he sure has those people in Kansas fooled!!  (hustle golf is when you run from shot to shot to rattle your league opponents) I know all of the Tryons wish Rick and his family a long and prosperous future. If you look REAL close at the first picture after clicking it, notice the scout in the background, at least that is what Graceland thought. Now who would scout the last game of the season? Photo found on Graceland site by WW. Second picture is Rick's last home game. As you can tell, he never was a snappy dresser. Is that  a Johnny Carson sport coat? Once, his mother came up to me and asked if I could help Rick pick out some clothes that would actually fit. Maybe something a little more in style with the times. (Rick loved pastels, it was hard for him to give up those pink shirts) The third picture shows those cheap t-shirts that were bought for the occasion. Not a high quality Graphic Edge product. Hey,I would use my coat to cover it up too. I will bet those t-shirts get a lot of wear after the big night. A real collector's item. Notice the 1970's picture of Rick on the front. Still living in the disco days. Fourth picture is a classic.  Did he just see the movie "Walk The Line"? The man in black, see I told you he was  "clothing dysfunctional" and they still do not fit. Geeze, keep the jacket on! Here are a couple of stories of Rick's final games and the legend continues..... Click For Story 1, Click For Story 2 Click For Story 3 (the laundry man)
UNI STUNS THE BASKETBALL WORLD!!
UNI's Men's Basketball team dominates #1 seed Kansas 69-67, leading the entire game. IT IS THE GREATEST BASKETBALL VICTORY IN UNI HISTORY!!!  But wait, a devoted UNI Panther fan MISSED THE GAME!!.....Yes, Tim was seen eating out at Living History Farms on Saturday and missed the greatest game EVER in UNI history!!! Shonna, Sherry and Todd P all cheered for the purple and the gold, but not Tim. It was DATE NIGHT.....heh heh, heh.........My how things have changed. Now ,back in 1990, Sherry, Tim and Todd were sitting in a Northern Iowa dorm room as a guy named Newbie nailed a last second shot to defeat Missouri in the NCAA'S, but I guess as we get older, we forget about school loyalty. Zach, Nicole and Natalie were cheering on the Panthers, so maybe that counts for something. Congrats to the UNI Panthers and all of their fans!! Man, does this open up the NCAA Contest, wow!! UPDATE #1......Tim FORGOT to set his VCR to tape the game, anyone have a copy for our Sap Of The Month? UPDATE #2....as posted on the Tryon Bulletin Board: "...biggest UNI fan seen running the streets of LaPorte City with UNI flag!! (His favorite Christmas present!) Not sure if he had time to even put on his shoes!! ....could be seen joining Forrest Gump running all the way to St. Louis with the same flag!?! Run Forrest RUN!!!!!" Hmmmm, who do we know in LaPorte City? Now you have to give them some slack, they are Chicago Cub fans, you know, and they do not get to celebrate very often.......
NCAA Men's Basketball Contest Is UP!!
We have 41 saps that are trying for the Pot Of Gold. David Crockett needs to identify himself by Saturday or he will be dropped. The Top Five Highest Point Getters Win and the last place SAP, gets his/her entry back. .....Last year's winners were Max G, Emily S, Donna, Zach, Tim and Hulse.....Good Luck To All and Go Panthers!! 50 Years Ago.........
Dale, our Glidden Graphic scout discovered the following gem in the Graphic. "In the latest Glidden Graphic in the 50 years ago section, 3 Tryons were mentioned:  (1) Tommie Tryon placed second in the Pinewood Derby scout races; (2)  Dick Tryon was among 10 youngsters that were awarded badges and awards from the Boy Scouts and (3)  Larry Tryon, represented the youth, as a featured speaker, at the Methodist Father and Son banquet." Boy, do I remember those Father-Son Banquets in the basement of the Methodist Church.  DBT was ALWAYS being farmed out to some guy who had no son that night. Joe Bundt, Harold Bender, Albie Davis, Ralph Bish are a few that I remember. Randy was NEVER farmed out as he was TOO ORNERY and C.L. had to corral him. The food must have been pretty darn good as they always had a very nice turnout. I know they also had Mother-Daughter banquets and I remember how proud Mom was of her little girls. It would be a real shame if this type of social event does not happen any more in Glidden. A Tryon Salute to the generation that took a lot of pride in family and church. Thanks Mom and Dad!!

It's Shower Time!!

Two Giants Of The Trucking Industry Meet In Colorado!!
Kind of like the Union Pacific Railroad and the Central Pacific meeting at Promontory Point or an Eisenhower-Khrushchev summit meeting. The HIghwayman and Cousin Jim met near Denver and spent the afternoon together telling tall tales of life on the road. Basketball games, gossip, lunch and a few cold ones were also the order of the day. I am sure they both shared some bizarre and possibly truthful stories of trucking the Great American Highway. (Is Candy cane there? or Large Marj? from Pee Wee's Great Adventure, an RT favorite although he had trouble following the intricate plot) Jimmy said it was great seeing family members without going to a funeral. Fortunately Randy caught Jim in a rare slow time of his busy social calendar so Jim was able to host the historical meeting of the minds. Sounds like they both had a great time and Jimmy was quite the host.. Photo by Jim.

Kuemper Wins!!
Carroll Kuemper has made it to state in high school boys basketball and Who is that bald guy cutting down the nets? Why it is Tyler, who has helped coach the Knight to state this year. Way to go Tyler!! The Knights won 52-50 against Emmetsburg @ Fort Dodge. Photo by JJ.
50 Years Ago This Week.....
According to the Glidden Graphic: "This week it mentions that Larry Tryon scored 60 points in two games to help Glidden win twice over Scranton.  Manning won the conference that year (1960) with a record of 6-0.  Glidden finished 5-2." (LT also set the school scoring record against Lake City that year.)
You May Not Be Able To Open This Up....
It is a wmv. file (windows) and some Macs and older computers may not be able to recognize the file. If it asks, just open. I could have made it smaller, but then it takes away from the effect. If you can, it is BEAUTIFUL and has a great cowboy song with words to live by. My little cowgirls just love it. They watch it over and over again. Believe It Or Not.....
DBT's Trivia Team, with only 6 players, (every other team had 8) finished in 3rd place out of 47 last Saturday night. We were in 2nd place, one question behind until the last round.

Tales Of The Open Road.....
The Highwayman is in Nevada on his way to L.A. He was snowed in last Monday in Iowa at The Boondocks on I-35. He ate a grilled tuna sandwich and has been sick ever since. He sent the following picture of Battle Mountain, Nevada. He will be back next week.

Deb Leaves Washington DC Just In Time!!
A note from Deb: "Hi, Gang. Just wanted to share some pics of a fabulous trip to Washington DC. Last Sunday I was able to spend 2.5 hours seeing many sites before I had to focus on work. It was below freezing and there was a lot of snow but I was able to walk five miles and see many things. Thankfully I was able to catch the last flight out to Cleveland on Friday before this weekend's big storm hit." Deb S. Looks like a great time, just click on pictures to enlarge.

Incredibly Tough Quiz.....
So, Like what holiday is it today? February 3rd?....No, it is NOT Ground Hog Day. Well, the faculty at Tryon University will explain it to you. JUST CLICK HERE....Now, after viewing, do you think anyone? teaches this stuff any more? If you are not sure, then check out this story on Fox News. CLICK HERE No more US History before 1877 to be taught in schools?....Huh? No Founding Fathers? No Constitution? No Abe Lincoln and the Civil War? and it is being replaced by MORE environment and global studies?.......EDITORIAL ALERT....I cannot express in words, the tragedy that is going on at colleges, high schools and even in lower grades, The revisionist history that is replacing what used to be the American Story ..(you cannot use the term Melting Pot anymore, I was told, you are suppose to say it is a stew or a salad....huh?...Well, not at Tryon U, where we cherish what BINDS us together, like love of family, the joy of freedom and a common language, not what divides us.....Yes, Virginia, there IS an American Culture. It is based on individual freedom and private ownership. Well, at least it used to be.)....This revisionism has been going on for decades, led by the text books....No Thomas Edison, No Henry Ford, No US Grants, but lots about people that are politically correct...like...Emma Goldman (anarchist)...Sacco and Vanzetti (murderers and armed robbers) Che and Fidel , (Communist thugs).....Earl Warren's Court.....How we spent (it ain't true) our way out of The Great Depression, .Woodrow (the racist) Wilson etc...(Man, do they love the KKK stuff, but no Charles Lindbergh)....So depressing.....I am not sure any subject has changed more since you were in school, than US History. I know, I spent 36 years fighting it.

A Tryon University Tradition
Old habits are hard to break. Once again I made a slide show Remembering Those Who Passed In 2009. I always thought it was a great way to link the past with the present and it was a great way to start some interesting classroom discussions. So, How many of these people do you remember? It flashes back some great memories and great times for me. Quite a few of these people had a significant influence on my life. How about you? CLICK HERE AND ENJOY.
Camden Is Fan Of The Game!!
January 22, at the Energy Pro Basketball game, Camden (Julie's) was named Fan Of The Game. The boys were there as Cole's team attended a clinic before the game. (Cole made a free throw at the big basket!) Ok, maybe it is just me, but looking at the empty seats, maybe the odds were pretty good for Camden to be chosen?, but Congrats anyway!! Picture On Their Web Site. Oh, that is Adrian, a High Voltage dancer........Eh,.....OK

Poor Jerry!!
A lot of Carroll County has been without power since this week's ice storm hit. Poor Jerry has NO television, No Heat and No Internet.....Plus, No Jerilyn as she is up in Sioux Falls babysitting. Tyler and family have also been without, but just off and on. Last night, all of Carroll was out. No news on Glidden. This is not suppose to be fixed until Monday, so Poor Jerry might miss the NFL Championship games?!!

Wendy's Brother Is In Haiti And YOU Can Help!!
I got the following from Wendy (Todd's):
"www.leesdreamforhaiti.com  It's a site for helping my brother (Lee, pictured) who lives in Haiti and has survived the earthquake but has lost his home in the disaster and is enduring many of the hardships.  We've set up this site to help get him and his community first-hand assistance.  Their main need right now is for food and clean drinking water, which is difficult to find because the markets in Jacmel and Port-au-Prince are destroyed and due to people fleeing Port-au-Prince and arriving in his community of Mizak, their supplies are running low. Donating to Red Cross and World Food Program also is the quickest way to get necessary foods and bottled water to the people.  The entire story is on that site and we've also put it up Lee's story on www.tryongym.com so feel free to pull any information you'd like from that.
I appreciate any support given to my brother, whether financial, prayer support, or just passing the word on to others who are looking to make a difference......
Thanks," Wendy
Please check these sites out and pray for all of those trying to make a difference in Haiti and please donate if you can.

Believe It Or Not.....
Randy was fined $364 for LITTERING on his last haul to Los Angeles!!  He was driving through the desert of Northern New Mexico, when a fellow trucker got him on the CB and said he had a flat tire on his rig. So RT got out and sure enough, he had a blow out. He put on his flashers and was driving to an exit, when a New Mexico patrolman (pictured) pulled him over. NM has a law that says the trucker cannot drive down the road with flashers on, he must park it and have assistance come to him. Well, RT did not know this as he was just looking for a safe place to pull over. The cop then escorted RT's truck off the interstate, which Randy was doing anyway and then wrote him a $364 ticket for LITTERING. Huh?  It was for leaving pieces of his tire on the road. (rubber) Geeze, is New Mexico that hard up for tax money? (New Mexico IS a Democratic run blue state). Was the Highwayman suppose to pull over and then walk down the interstate picking up pieces he left for miles? How did Mr. Policeman know RT's tire left pieces on the highway? and if there were pieces, how did the cop know that it was from RT's truck? Hey, where's a lawyer? When The Highwayman protested the fine, Buford T. Justice responded, "Well, you're not the first one to get this ticket." (Really? Did the money end up in the policeman's pocket?) Don't worry, though,  Windstar will pay for the ticket. Way to stick it to out-of-staters New Mexico (Land Of Enchantment) or was this all a fairy tale?.........Believe It Or Not

In stunning move, Cauthen is ousted as city manager
By LYNN HORSLEY and MICHAEL MANSUR

Two years ago, Mayor Mark Funkhouser of Kansas City tried to remove Wayne Cauthen as city manager.

On Thursday, he finally succeeded in a move that passed the City Council by just one vote and that took City Hall completely by surprise.

Cauthen, who was manager for more than six years, was escorted from the building by the security chief.

Cousin Ron Is Named To Hall Of Fame!!
Ron's football officiating career hit a high point when he received the super news and he also shares the following stories::
"I received a letter from Rick Wulkow recently. I was humbled and honored as I read that I would be inducted into the Hall of Fame during the half-time ceremonies of the Boys 2A Basketball Tourney in Des Moines on March 12. I began writing a history of my officiating. I worked over 520 games for over 156 high school districts spanning a time from 1967 to 2009. One game in 1980 was between Coon Rapids at Bayard and it rained so much we had to re chalk the goal lines before we could play the game. We toweled off in the home-ec room and used the sinks (no showers) and the football coach made us hotdogs and chilli; for that we were paid $27.50 apiece. In 1990 it rained 4 inches on a Thursday followed by 7 inches of snow Friday night and early Saturday. Augustana College was more interested in getting the game played than tearing up the field. When we arrived, the field was covered with snow. They buried a tractor trying to blade the snow off the field. In a brilliant move by a grounds-keeper, they decided to use orange spray cans and sprayed the lines on top of the snow every 10 yards. The game was played, the statistic-keepers went crazy, the field was torn up beyond recognition and lots of our clothing was destroyed in the Mud Bowl of 1990. Official "T"
Congrats Ron On The Well Deserved News!!
Unbelievable!! Missed Extra Point by Alabama Determines Winner of Bowl Bonanza!! In the closest contest ever, that meaningless Extra Point kick with 33 seconds left in the game was the difference in the 2009 Bowl Bonanza. If Alabama makes it, Bryce Wins.....Wow, it hits the upright and lucky Dick and Alexis tie for first place. Bryce and Tytan tie for third and Eric finishes in 5th as he picked the exact points scored. So DICK KNOWS FOOTBALL.....and who finished dead last? Why it is Lucky Dale. (Mr. ISU) Big Cy did win the Fantasy Football College Contest, though. (DBT was second)  Wow, it was a great contest. Now start studying for the NCAAs....  Click Here For Standings.

GREAT TIME At The Tryon Christmas!!
Over a week ago, almost 60 Tryons showed up to celebrate family, fun and Christmas in Glidden. Special thanks to Maxine for lining up the church. Santa arrived and was SUPER as he led a Limbo contest with the kids. The food was scrumptious as always and they even got Travis to eat his first prune cake. Isn't it great to see someone finally reach manhood? Melody won the limbo contest and was really thrilled with her prize! (a goofy hat) Chad and Emily made their BIG announcement as Donna and Bruce grinned in the background! Randy brought his truck and gave a BIG RIG ride for the kids. All the little ones jammed into the cab (including Tyler) and an exciting trip around Glidden was enjoyed by all. Rumor has it that a WET DIAPER was left in the cab and RT did not notice it for over a week!! DBT's antique, digital camera blacked out about half way thru the day, but with the help of a few others, HERE IS A SHORT SLIDE SHOW. It sure was a great time. My Email Stinks!!
Thanks Mediacom. Last week they announced a FREE upgrade to their email services will lots of FREE additions to making email more exciting and smoother. Well, as you have probably read or heard, it is a BIG MESS. I just finished my daily phone call to them and they are working REALLY hard to fix what they messed up. There is a HUGE delay when I send anything and many ISPs are blocking emails from Mediacom because of spam. It appears that I can receive email, unless from another Mediacom subscriber like Dale or GT. They told me some emails will be lost. Geeze, thanks Mediacom. It was working fine before you upgraded us. (they told the Des Moines Register that the problem was fixed...it AIN"T)

TRYON CHRISTMAS IS SUNDAY!!
The annual Tryon Christmas is Sunday, December 6th, in Glidden at the Methodist Church.  Maxine was kind enough to get the church's permission. With the Fourth of July celebration cancelled last summer, we sure hope as many as possible make a big effort to attend. It is one of the few chances we have of visiting with each other. The meal will be served at 1:00 pm, so try to get there around 12:30. Bring a hot and cold dish, your own utensils and your own drink. Bring a gift for your kids, if you wish. some will and some will choose not to.  Santa will be there. (gag gifts are always encouraged) There will be games and some crafts for the kids, thanks to the nieces. Come join us. It is hard to get together through out the year, but it is so much fun to visit and to see the kids growing up. It is always great to go home for the Holidays. Hope to see you there!!! ALL ARE WELCOME!!  (photo is from 2001, Macie? and Melody, Christmas at Elk Horn)
