New Year's Eve With The Watsons!!
Yes, Nancy turns the BIG 50, January 7th!! Wow, our baby sister? As a surprise birthday present, her adoring husband rented a beautiful place and invited some of their friends to enjoy. Let's see, a cruise? a trip to Florida or Louisiana for a bowl game? a fancy hot tub suite in Omaha? Noooooooo, our hero rented a hunting cabin in the middle of Nebraska.....in January. (geeze, who bought WW that Jim Bridger, Mountain Man book?) Deb, Terry and Doug and Jodie's helped Nancy celebrate the New Year and her birthday. It appears to have been a little colder than RT's trip to Florida (70). All appeared to have a great time and sent in some memorable pictures. That large outhouse you see was actually the Madsens' honeymoon cabin. Also notice the pheasant farm and rustic wood burner. I just cannot imagine Nancy not shopping at Crown Center in KC or something like that. Click Here For Slide Show.

Randy's Family In Florida To Cheer On The Hawkeyes!
Look for Tanner and Travis in body paint and RT in a bright yellow wig. I think they also have a sign or two made to cheer on Iowa. They will be sitting next to a couple of classy ladies, Marjean and Mandy!! Tanner works in Atlanta and bought tickets for the family. Go Hawks!!
Barb "Retires" From EDS!!
Barbie had her last day at EDS on Wednesday. They offered an early retirement that she took, with a bonus to be added to her 401 K retirement account. On January 17, she will "unretire" as she accepted a Project Manager position with Principle Insurance. She will still commute to Des Moines and is very excited to start a new chapter of her working life. Pretty nice pay increase too. Way to go Barb!

TFL Super Bowl This Weekend!
Eric's River Dogs are big favorites to capture the coveted 2004 Tryon Football League Championship Banner. Despite missing the live draft, Eric has led his team to the Championship game. Picking up RBs like Larry Johnson and Droughns from Denver, the Dogs look tough. Bruce's Lake View Waves upset the #1 seed East Glidden Grunts (DBT) last week 106-79, the cocky Waves even started the Arizona QB as their MVP Michael Vick rested. Can Bruce pull another rabbit out of his hat? or is it a fine, second place finish? Good Luck to both. The Grunts play The Stampede (Tim) for 3rd and Cleveland (Scott) plays Sioux Falls (Todd) for next year's number one draft pick. Thanks to all for playing.

Wayne State Thumps South Dakota State!!
The Cats win 82-56!!! Wow!!! Brett had some foul trouble the first half (WSC led by 2) and then he led the second half charge. WSC had NEVER beaten the DIVISION ONE University before tonight. Brett scored 8 pts., but had many steals, rebounds and assists. Oh, by the way, the game was played in Brookings, SD. The WSC Wildcats play a top ten team in UNO tomorrow night.
Go Cats!!

How Bout Those Clones?!!
Second Bowl win in school history!!

ISU celebrates a bowl victory in the Independence Bowl. The Fighting Cyclones looked very good with all of those Freshmen and Sophomores. They defeat Miami of Ohio 17-14, despite some of the worse officiating I have seen for a while.
Way To Go Clones!! Congrats to all of the ISU fans, too. Click For Story.

They play at Adel against tough Carroll Wednesday night. Good Luck Randy, another fine season. Go Tigers!!

Problem Solved!! It may not be perfect for everyone (what is?) and I appreciate the suggestions made about the Tryon Christmas, but we now have a solution. Some of us think it is just right, maybe it is perfect. Here, let Randy tell you......."It's official....I called the Glidden preacher and we have the Methodist Church reserved for the Tryon Christmas on Sunday- Dec. 19th.  I told him from 1-5 p.m.  I suggest to have a potluck and have all people coming bring a hot dish, a cold dish, and their own eating stuff (we can use the kitchen if you want to cook)  I can bring several large thermos coolers to make ice tea, etc. in.  We could use the sanctuary for Christmas carols and to have Donna/Nancy put on a show playing the organ/piano.  Some might want to come early that Sunday and attend worship service!?! What a neat place for a family Christmas!!!  Lots of room, centrally located, good memories, great place for a family auction too!  This could be a family tradition......MOM AND DAD would be proud! Spread The Word"......RT
Special thanks to Randy, Donna and Dale for using their brain power and checking out possible sites. I totally agree with Randy that this has tremendous potential and could be the start of a new and wonderful tradition. There are still a lot of maybes: like pot luck? church service? a program by Tryons? gifts? some activities for the kids? a TV for football? etc. The idea of the Tryons coming back to Glidden and supporting the church that the folks enjoyed so much can really make this a special Christmas and give the community something to talk about, too. The folks and Ray really would be proud of this. Plus the fact that there will be a lot of room for all that wish or can attend, just Super in my book. Any great ideas, let me know! and remember to plan for the auction for Steve.

More Great News On GT!!

More good news on Gaylord.  Sandy called at 4:00 today and informed us that Gaylord is getting along real good. His spirits are good.  He did have a 10" incision.   He still has tubes in him, but  he will be released from the Hospital today at 5:00 (with tubes still in him).  They plan to stay in Rochester motel over the night.  A doctor in Des Moines will eventually remove the tubes.,,,,,,,, (thanks Dale)
We just got off the phone visiting with Lindsay Law  (Sandy's daughter).   Sandy had just called her with information about Gaylord.  Here is what we know:  He went to surgery at noon and at 9:15 this evening, Sandy still hasn't had a chance to see him.  She was told the surgery went good.  Before he went into the hospital he had hoped to be home by Saturday or Sunday.  Sandy says he may get to come home on Friday.
His phone number is 507-287-5778 (room 5105 A).  Address is Gaylord Tryon, Room 5105A, Rochester Methodist Hospital, 200 lst St. SW., Rochester, MN 55905
Gaylord is now out of surgery and is in his room. He said, "Things are fine, the operation could not have gone better!" (he is now hoping to come home Friday evening!) That is great news........Dale (put on the web with GT's permission)

Help!! The Tryon Family Christmas is growing and growing. We are looking for brilliant ideas to help as many of the members of the family celebrate the Holiday season together. Traditionally we have had Christmas on the Sunday before the 25th. This allows for families to get together on Christmas Day. The Watsons, Larry and Jan, Dale and Janet have hosted lately and they have been very memorable. This year the Watsons cannot host. Any suggestions or volunteers? I know, for me, I just love seeing as many nieces/nephews/cousins and their children as possible. This works great at the lake in the summer, but it is hard to find a house big enough and half way centrally located. Is this the year we rent a place? The auction we do for Steve is priceless and the food/games/contests and laughs are too. Email me suggestions, I will compile the suggestions and maybe a vote or poll? Just Click Here. Please Do It Now, if we wish to rent someplace or contact someone, there is a time element. I would sure hate to have just the immediate family get together, it is so much fun to enjoy those we do not get a chance to see so much. Watching their kids grow is priceless.

Have You Read The Letter?
Jack Nicklaus, Ernie Banks, John Elway, Karl Malone, Nolan Ryan and Roger Staubach can be on my team, anytime! Character Counts........ Click Here.
Todd Gets His CHAMPIONSHIP Banner!!
Winning his first Tryon Championship banner, Todd was proud, sassy and arrogant! (Tryon traits?) and he was seen strutting in front of Dale, WW and DBT doing his end zone dance after winning the 2003-4 Tryon Basketball League. You too could win one of these coveted banners, but first you will have to earn it. If you are interested in joining us for the 2004-5 season, let me know quickly as our league is filling up.
50 YEARS AGO:  Clarence Tryon, president of the Glidden Board of Education, was elected president of the newly organized association of Carroll County school boards.  This is a county organization of the Iowa Association of School Boards.

4-3 Victory Over Northern State!
WAYNE STATE SWEEPS NSIC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

Oct. 4--Wayne State College swept the Northern Sun Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards in soccer announced today by the league office. Sophomore midfielder Melissa Benson received the Offensive Player of the Week while Sarah James, a sophomore defender, (Brett's friend and attendee to the Tryon Christmas) captured the Defensive award. Benson, from Maple Grove, Minn., scored two goals to help the Wildcats roll over Upper Iowa Saturday 7-1. She leads the team in scoring this season with five goals.
James, from Kearney, Neb., contributed one goal in Saturday's 7-1 win over the Peacocks and helped hold Upper Iowa to just six shots in the game from her defender position. It is the first time this season that a WSC soccer player received an NSIC award

Rodney, We Will Miss You........You were one of a kind...

Travis' Email Has Been Added To Tryon Post Office
Travis, who is attending Ft. Dodge JC, has his own email address and it has been added to the Tryon Post Office. Please help me update other emails as they change, just let me know, thanks. Good luck to Travis and all of the college students we have.
Mandy's Volleyball Is Off And Running!!
Mandy has started the last couple of matches for Northwest Missouri State!! They have won a couple of matches and she has started the last 4, I believe. Once against the #3 team in the nation. Besides Randy and Marjean, the Watsons and Larry and Jan have seen her play. Good Luck Mandy, have a great season!!
Chad Is The King Of Baseball!!
Chad's Norwalk Nerds defeated Brad's Bombers 187-127 in the 2004 edition of the Tryon Baseball League World Series. Congrats to Chad, he joins Todd (Mr. Basketball) and himself (Mr. Football) as current Tryon Champions. Great Fun and a great run by Brad to almost pull out a miracle ending. Thanks to all for playing.
Hurricane Alert!!
I received the following news from Cousin Jim H.:
At 6:00 Sunday, Jeanne is headed directly at Tampa area with 100 mph winds. Not only will we lose our power but a high water surge from the back side after it passes us about 12:00. We have no damage so far, after a full night of 70 mph and driving rain, but are softened up and probably will incur major damage. We did not evacuate so will batten up and weather the storm. Auntie Helen appears to be OK for the time being. We may have to go get her and go to an emergency area. There is a school within walking distance that we can go to if we have to.You can reach me on my cell phone 727-688-0340 if our power goes out and we have to move. This will be the last report until after the eye of the hurricane passes us about noon. The original path was supposed to miss us but now it is coming directly at us. That's why we didn't evacuate. Now it's too late. I guess we were about due since the other 3 were originally forecasted to hit us and missed. They now say the aftermath of flooding caused by the back side of the hurricane will cause us more trouble than the 100 mph winds we will received when the eye passes over us.
Get those Prayers going big time. Jim

Quite The Day....
It was quite a day in Defiance, this past Monday. Lots of family and friends there to say good by to Lucile. It sure was great to see the cousins, hear the wonderful music of Bill and Louise Ahrenholtz and listening to the stories that were told. It was fun to meet and enjoy all of the families, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Is there a more beautiful cemetery around? Click Here for a couple of Monday's pictures.

Brad And Chad Play In Tryon World Series!!
It took a former professional baseball player to oust the 3 TIME Champion Nevada Fat Boys, but they did it with ease. Brad's Dad Bob was also knocked out just one game from the final. Chad's Norwalk Nerds have been the highest scoring team all season and they will play Brad's Bombers, (who also whipped the #1 seed) in the 2004 Tryon Baseball League World Series, this week. Both coaches have won banners in other sports, so let the games begin, it will be quite a week!! Good Luck!!

Lucile Tryon Passes Away.......
Family visitation is 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at the Burmeister-Johanson (sp?) funeral home in Harlan. (One block west of the hospital) Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the Methodist Church in Defiance. Our deepest, most heart felt sympathies go out to the family and friends of Lucile, a truly wonderful person!
I just received the following email from Jim T. Our hearts and prayers go out to family and friends.
"Mom passed away about noon today.  Very peaceful .  Was being fed in the dining room and just slumped of in wheel chair.  Funeral plans are still tentative but we are leaning toward Sunday afternoon at 3PM  and visitation on Sat. eve if that can be worked out.  We are leaning toward nephews  for pallbearers.  So some may be getting a call.  The last stroke a week ago left her pretty much a blank mentally and was having problems swallowing.  We are so glad that she will not have to suffer anymore.  If any of the plans change will let you know.  Cuz Jim "

Surprise Birthday Party For Jerilyn!!
A wonderful, surprise birthday party for the party girl Jerilyn. Hosted at The Villa with lots of great food, family and friends. What a nice way to break up the week. Dale was seen sprinting to get in line first, the poor guy had not had a hamburger for weeks. Jerry spent the afternoon "warming up". Randy kept drinking "milk", glass after glass, Boy, is he on a health kick. Great seeing Terry, Big John and many other friends of the family. Here are a few pictures, (click to enlarge)....photos by DBT and Dale..... Click Here For More Pictures Of The Event. Happy Birthday Jerilyn!!

Iowa 17 ISU 10
Tryons gather at EHK and Ames to cheer for their favorites, thanks to the Watsons (including Mom's maid-rites on homemade buns) and Dale (including golf and cards) for hosting! DM Register story of the game.

Sobering Email From Jim T.
Mom had a bad spell last night.  Found her unconscious with blood pressure 64 over 36.  She did manage to open eyes about 3 hrs. later but couldn't comprehend anything.  Her hands and feet were turning purple  She did have a restful night and as of noon today her blood pressure was 116 over 64.  The purple color has disappeared.  She did recognize Luella this morning by saying, Oh You're here but nothing after that.  Is still trying to dry heave and has a jerking motion.  Dr. says that's a sign of her still stroking.  Will give you any more news as I know it.  She is still in the home in Anita.  Dr. says nothing they could in hospital  and as long as she comfortable to wait.  Could you put this on the family home page.  thanks;  Cuz jim  Our thoughts and prayers go out to Lucille and her family.

Tryon Baseball League Playoffs Begin!
The 2004 TBL Fantasy playoffs begin this week with LT's Yankee Pride the #1 seed and Hulsebus' Rays #2. We have had a wild and bizarre season and with the hurricanes, who knows what will happen. DBT's Fat Boys are trying to with their 4th straight championship, but it seems the Boys have gained a little weight and are slowing down some. We had 12 teams fighting for 8 playoff spots, these are the qualifiers. So much fun and very tough competition.

Cousin Orland Densmore Is Not Doing Very Well...
I received the following  email from Diane Densmore. Click To Read.
Dear Diary:
Today I got to see the President! Grandpa is SO proud of me, Mommy and Grandma as we waited in line to see President Bush. He seems like such a nice guy! Everyone was smiling and clapping. It was a hot day and it was the most people I have ever seen in all of my life. I saw lots of tractors and farmer boys and corn. I heard fun music too. I have decided that I am a Republican because I like elephants and not stinky Donkeys, or as Grandpa calls them....Jack-asses. I was so excited to see the President that I fell right asleep. It sure was fun, I wonder what fun things I will see next........Baby Alexis (I inserted some photos of my big day, just click to see)
Super Time With A Super Guy!!
Talk about being a PROUD member of Team Tryon, Cousin Jimmy T was able to visit with the Watsons, Jerry & Jerilyn, Larry, Bruce & Donna and DBT & Barb. A great time (and meal) was had at The Villa last week. Cousin Jim T (2 sheets in the wind?) was in town for his high school reunion. (Irwin have a high school?) Much effort was made to "set" Jim up with some of the local female bar flies. We all agreed that Jimmy would look better at closing time. Laughs were the order of the night, but the highlight might be LT giving Tyler a $10 bill and telling him to "keep the change"......Larry's bill was $10.46......only LT could pull that one off!!! Sure was a fun and memorable night for all!! You can't beat family!

Believe It Or Not.......(aka Saps Of The Month)
* Watson had over 20,000 emails in his school email account when he returned to school from summer vacation! What kind of sites has this guy been visiting?
* Randy, on a trip from Muncie, Indiana was bringing home two silver lab pups, when Marjean noticed she was smearing puppy poop all over the floor of their new convertible. RT stopped at Casey's in Newton and used a windshield squeegee to clean up the poop! Geeze, how would you like to be the next guy to wash his windows? He filled up with gas and upon returning home the Newton police had called and accused him of a "drive off" not paying for the gas. He did pay, with a credit card, but I think Casey's was trying to get even with him.
* Beth made almost 1000 calls on her cell phone last month!! Gosh, that should win some kind of award. It goes without saying, she was well over her limit of minutes.
* Todd admitted to everyone attending Marge's funeral that he wore a sweatshirt under his tux to make himself look bigger while attending his first Prom. I have heard of people trying to "look bigger" but I thought they used a sock, or fruit or something. Most of us are not that insecure.
* Barbie went to Des Moines for a test and DBT drove her. About 7:00 a.m. and a mile or two from Des Moines, she discovered she had no photo ID or insurance card. She tried so hard to blame this on her husband, but was NOT successful. When she returned home she also looked at the papers and found she was not to have food or liquids after midnight. (we had eaten a breakfast sandwich and orange juice on the way.) She postponed the test.
* Donna claims she hit a 10 ft. jack rabbit with her car..........hmmmmmmm...... (a few drinks at The Villa?) The window on the driver's side was shattered and there was a pretty good dent. Imagine if her window had been down? Getting hit in the side of the face by a jack rabbit would be a little hard for people to believe. A half dead jack rabbit flopping around the front seat would have been quite a thrill.
* David just bought a brand new expensive bike to ride on RAGBRAI. On the first day, before even starting the across Iowa bicycle journey, he backed up the huge Winnebago and ran over the bike. He had not peddled it a foot. It took most of the day to repair. Sounds like an expensive way to get out of riding to me.
Hurricane Frances Aftermath!!

Thank the Lord. The Florida Clan survives Frances. Minimal damage to condo grounds. Lost trees, elevator flooded, carport roof demolished and south garage wall collapsed. Jim spend the night trying to hold front door tight to prevent rain seeping in, to no avail. He finally just put several towels down and went to bed at 5 am. Nancy of course slept thru the whole ordeal.

Now, more bad news. Hurricane IVAN is heading directly for the Tampa area on the same path that Charley took. Can we be so lucky? Will Ivan veer to the right before it gets to Tampa? We need more prayers to survive this horrible triple header.

Auntie Helen lost her elevator and air conditioning but everything else if fine.

Jim and Nancy are going to NYC for 4 days to take in some Broadway shows and try to forget the past month. We will be back the day before Ivan hits. OH GOODY!

Latest News On Hurricane Frances!
"We survived the first of three days of Hurricane Frances with only Auntie Helen losing her electricity. We on the beach are only getting winds of 45 MPH and lots of rain but no damage so far.

The "eye" of the hurricane is about 50 miles southeast and heading just to the north of us. That is good also, since we will be on the good side of the storm. Even if the "eye" changes course and goes over us, it is now down to 90 MPH and could be as low as 70 by the time it gets to us.

We still expect a lot of damage but are not evacuating because Mother has lost her electricity. The second building in her complex has not lost it's power, so she has gone over there to stay with a friend. It is all under one roof, so she does not have to get out into the elements.

We understand that we will also get the back side, the bad side, after it passes us and goes into the gulf. That means we will have to endure this battering for 48 more hours. UGH.

Not that this isn't bad enough, we now have Hurricane IVAN right behind Frances. It is going on the same path as Charley, so here we go again. Does anyone out there want to buy a beautiful condo on the beach with boat slips, tennis courts and large swimming pool and Jacuzzi? The price is right!

Stay tuned for more reports, if we keep our power."

Orland Densmore Is Suffering From Ill-Health!!
I got the following email from Diane D.
"Dick, I received this email from cousin Elaine Smith...thought you might to post it on the
Tryon website.Charlene & Forrest are 2 of Orland's children. From your cousin,Diane"

Hello Elaine,
How are you doing? Well, we are doing okay. However, I don't know if Margie
already told you about dad. He's not doing well. In fact, the doctors do not
give him anytime. It can be any minute or days. This past weekend he has
been going down hill. Forrest came to see dad on Saturday. He was in a lot of
pain. The doctors started giving him medication for his pain. Then Sunday
after breakfast he didn't keep it down. He hasn't been able to hold anything
down since Sunday. The doctors have assigned him a 24 hour hospice nurse. I
have been to visit him everyday now since the time is near. I just thought
you would want to know about dad. Can you send this message or let everyone
up there know what is happening. I don't have all of the e-mails or phone
numbers, I appreciate it. We love you and please keep dad in your prayers
that he does not suffer any longer. If anyone wants more information or need
to call us, please give them my e-mail address or call me on my cell phone.
Thanks.. Love ya Charlene
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of Orland's family, friends and relatives.

Pool Party This Sunday!!
Time to unwind! It's the last of the summer fests! Here is the invite from RT:
"Probably the end of the summer *Garden Pool Party*. This Sunday- August 22nd,   1:00-?.  We have lots of tomatoes and Marjean will make her famous SALSA.  If you are coming bring a snack and meat to grill around 4:00 p.m.  Love to see lots of people!!!!!!!
Weather looks to be in the mid 80's and my pool heater is on!  Water temperature is 88 degrees (bath temp).  You must wear suits...........
Spread the word!" Mr. Fun

Whew!!
Got the following great news from Jim H.:

"Our prayers were answered. We didn't even have a thunderstorm from the Hurricane after it miraculously changed course. We pray for those who were not so lucky. We are trying to get in touch with a friend who just bought a home in Port Charlotte, which was in the area that the Hurricane hit land at 145 MPH. Early reports are not good with many deaths and huge damage to hospitals, businesses, homes and trailer parks.
Thanks to all for your thoughts and prayers during this devastating act of nature." Jim
Update On Dale......
Barb and I went to see Dale today (Saturday) after attending the beautiful service for Marge Peters. Dale is still in Room 743, but hopes to be home very shortly. Maybe even tomorrow. He has had problems each day, but seems to be overcoming them. Janet, GT and Sandy were also there. Dale's attitude was good, but he is tired. He laughed a lot and told some good stories. He also said he appreciated all of the support he has received from friends and family. Photo by DBT.

Hurricane Charley Heading Towards Tampa!!
Jim and Nancy are joining thousands in seeking shelter, I got this email from Jim:
We are right in the path of Hurricane Charlie and must evacuate by 6 am Friday. It has winds of 110MPH with an 18ft flood surge. That will put our parking lot under about 10 ft of water. It is the biggest and most direct hit this area has ever had. Pray for us that it will change course and miss us. A total of 335,000 must evacuate. We are going to stay with Mother, so please put a notice on the Home page that we can be reached at her place. Her telephone number is 727-585-9115. Good Luck in avoiding this mess Jim! Our thoughts and prayers are with the Florida Clan.
Marge Peters Passes Away
Jerilyn's mother, passed away at her home, Monday morning, very suddenly. Visitation will be Friday from 3:30-7:00 pm at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll, Iowa. A prayer service will take place at 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in Carroll. The funeral home is located across from The Villa. Our hearts and prayers go out to Jerilyn and her family. Marge, as all of the Peters family, was so close to the Tryons and the Glidden area. We all mourned the loss of Don, her husband, many years ago and now are so saddened by this news. She seemed in such great spirits at Sara's wedding and we really enjoyed her laughter at our table that night. All of us feel the sorrow at the loss of such a loved one.
Dale Is Doing Ok, But Not Great
Janet called and said Dale's heart by-pass was successful, but then there was a very serious problem after the operation. Family members that were present were ushered into another room and told to call other family members. His heart was acting very poorly. Janet called GT and Randy (they were closest, Marjean was able to help, too) Jodie, Dan and David were already there. Then a while later the doctors announced that they were able to stabilize the heart. The doctor said he does over 200 of these operations a year and he has only seen this happen one other time. Dale will be in Intensive Care for at least three days. No flowers or balloons, please. His temporary room number is 14 IC on the first floor. Praise The Lord!

Hospital Notes:
* Dale goes in for his bypass operation, Tuesday. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dale, Janet and their family. Good Luck Dale!
* Barb has two days of tests to be performed Tuesday and Wednesday. They are still trying to pinpoint her problems. She has been feeling much better lately. The current medicine has really helped.
* Violet (Barb's Mom) was told she still has to use her walker for a few more weeks, she still cannot put weight on her hip/leg that was injured last spring. It has been a long summer for her.
Todd's Sioux Falls Arena Football Team Plays For Championship!! The Fighting Sioux Falls Storm will play in the championship game, this weekend (Saturday, I think) at Sioux Falls. They play a team from Kentucky. Man, they must have gotten their strength to compete at The Tryon Gym. Way to go Todd!! Go Storm!!!

A Wonderful Wedding!!
Congratulations to Sara and John and very best wishes on their marriage. It was a beautiful wedding and lots of fun. (not to mention the tasty food) It was great seeing so many friends and relatives in one place. Congrats to Donna and Bruce on this very special day. Click Here to view a few pictures of the wedding and reception. It was tough taking pictures and chasing our little grandchild at the same time and as you will tell, the light was always a problem, but some great memories. (Jerry begging for tickets? seeing Sally and Bill enjoying themselves, Bruce speaking like a keynote speaker at the DNC....great fun) The very best for Sara and John!!

Team Tryon Invades Central Iowa!!!
Yes, it was quite a sight when Team Tryon invaded The Hill, the golf course near Grand Junction. 9 virile athlete's completely took over the course and left a "few" divots in their wake. Playing in the first foursome was Dale, Jerry, Gaylord and Bill....They were followed by an illegal five some of Dick, Randy, Larry, Mike H and Travis. Talk about slow play....numerous other golfers were seen skipping hole after hole to try and stay out of the way of Team Tryon, but being in another fairway was no guarantee of safety. JJ furnished beautiful T-shirts and it was quite a sight watching 9 muscular men stripping to the waist in the parking lot. It literally stopped traffic on highway 30....some thought it was a scene from The Full Monty. Many laughs, lots of "mulligans", much money being exchanged (Mike H. got indoctrinated), a plethora of lost balls and some real cussing marked the day. When a rain shower hit, it was time for cards and it was icing on the cake. The good Lord sure gave us a wonderful day to enjoy. Special thanks to Bill for making such a big effort to drive all the way from rainy Dallas, too bad Jim H. was not here, now that would have been really something. It was some fun. Man, isn't summer great? Click Here for the slide show pictures. Photos by Dale. The Scoreboard (which is about as accurate as a Florida voting precinct) Gaylord 77, Dale 79, Jerry 80, Dick 84, Mike H 84, Bill 87, Randy 90, Larry 91 and Travis 54 (nine holes) I can't wait for the next one......

Sara And John's Big Day Is Saturday!!
Premature congratulations to Sara (and to Donna and Bruce) and John on their wedding day, this Saturday 3:00 pm in Carroll, Iowa. Most of the Tryons will be there and rumor has it that Bill and Sally will be coming all the way from Texas. It should be a wonderful time for all! Always great to see as many as possible.
A Note From Dale.....
"I've had a lot of shortness of breath the last few months (but no pain), so I decided to have an angioplasty done this morning at the Health Center @ Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.  It was determined that I had several arteries blocked, some were 100% blocked.  I will have a quadruple by-pass done in Des Moines on August 9th.  I could have done it earlier, but didn't want to miss the big golf outings with my brothers (especially the one with Bill), and the August 6th All Glidden/Ralston Alumni Reunion, in which I'll be the Master of Ceremonies.  The doctors agreed that a few more days should not make a difference, as they are giving me temporary pills to help blood flow through the arteries.   Wow,  Ray dies of a heart attack at age of 60,  Bill has a by-pass at age of 68 and now I  have a by-pass at age of 68.  Unfortunately, things like this do run in a family.  Stay in shape folks!"  Dale

Diane Densmore Finds Super Information On Our Great Great Grandfather! As many of you know, Cousin Diane has been doing extensive research on the Densmore side of our family tree. Our Grandfather George's dad (Leroy), his dad (Phinious) was a one legged well digger, in Illinois. Click Here for the super newspaper references found by Diane. They describe the accident and much, much more. Diane emailed this to Donna and it was passed on to tryons.com. Nice job! Diane! A Tryon salute to you!!

Hospital Notes:
*Dale goes into the Des Moines Heart Center for a procedure on Friday.
*Lucille Peterson will be released from the Carroll hospital on Friday after suffering a mild stroke. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who are having health difficulties.
*Barbara is feeling better, but they are still not exactly sure what is wrong. Her latest medicine has helped relieve the pain. Thanks for all of the kindess.

Barb promises not to jump into the kiddie pool again this year and there is talk of a Spoons Championship!! WW is working on a "secret" weapon and good times will be had by all, guaranteed. Lynn And Partner Open Fitness Center In Denver!

I just got this nice email from Lynn:
"Great work on the Tryon home page.  No matter where I'm at I can always feel at home when I check out our family news.  I haven't been back to Iowa lately so I just wanted to keep everyone updated.  My friend and I recently opened up Ultra Fitness Gym in the Cherry Creek section of Denver.  It's a personal training facility specializing in weight loss, muscle-mass gain, body toning and the overall concept of staying fit.  I also market high school athletes and prepare them for their upcoming football and/or basketball seasons.  We put in a lot of hours but we're enjoying it.  I'll send you an ad that's going out in the Denver Post." Click Here For Ad and Photo, it is a pdf file. Man, everyone is getting into the fitness business. We wish them all great success. Summer Fun In Iowa!!

Home Page Has Moved...
Saturday afternoon and evening the tryons.com home page has been switched to another (cheaper) server. It took OVER 7 hours to upload and I have broadband! Geeze, quite a bit of crapola on this site? Hopefully, there will not be much, if any down time. This will be the fourth server switch since we started back in 1998. The big reason is it is getting so big. You will NOT have to change bookmarks or anything, this will all be done at my end. All features should work fine, except we may lose the old Bulletin Board messages. Thanks for your patience.
Sara's Shower Was A Big Success!!
This weekend saw the Central Iowa Women's Association Of Bizarre Behavior host a wedding shower for Sara (daughter of Donna). The wedding of Sara and John is planned for July 31st. The shower/party/riot was hosted by Marjean, who is known for hearty parties. Rumor has it the place was almost raided by the police, something about neighbors complaining about loud music, obscene dancing (Donna?) and inappropriate attire. (Janet?)  (Hey, didn't she wear those tassels one July 4th?) I am kind of embarrassed my grand daughter was exposed to such "interesting" sights, what a zoo. Anyway, a wonderful turnout and a good time by all, very memorable. Wishing the best for Sara and John. Click Here For Photo Slide Show, photos by Julie.
Donnie.......Breaking News!!
Ok, I don't have the heart to declare this a Sap Of The Month, but Donnie (son of Dale and Janet) told his buddy, (as he was leaving to play softball) "If I am not back in an hour and a half, I will be in the emergency room!" You guessed it, he ended up in the emergency room. He went to play softball on the Sportsman's softball team. (Donnie just may be America's OLDEST playing shortstop). With one out to go in a one run game, (an 18-17 thriller) a hard hit line drive took a bad bounce and hit him right in the face, Result....a broken jaw in two places and teeth knocked out! It looked so bad that the game was called. Now, who is going to MC the Funny Barn this summer? Danny is suggesting tryouts within the family. I know JJ used to knock em dead with his comedy routine he performed at the Folks' anniversary. DBT could tell fat jokes for a while. Dale could talk Jodie into playing her clarinet and how about Larry's piano playing, swimming mermaid song? Anyway, Donnie can barely get a straw in his mouth and is really, really sore. Geeze.... Didn't he break a collar bone last year playing ball? and a leg while skiing? and I imagine a few other injuries I do not know about or want to know about. Get Well Soon Donnie and maybe somebody should explain to him that he is not 21 anymore?? He just had surgery yesterday to put a plate in his face and will have his jaw wired shut for 6 weeks.....Gosh......Get Well Donnie and Good Luck...and next time use your glove......Go Sportsman's!!!! The important thing is they won the game!! Which would bring a smile to Donnie, but he can't smile without hurting......gosh.
Travis Graduation Pictures Are UP!!
Yes, the last of the Grand Kids, Travis, son of Randy and Marjean graduated from ADM on Sunday, May 23. The night before floods hit central Iowa. The sun broke through and a beautiful open house party took place, up on The Hill. It was great seeing so many relatives and friends of Travis, a great time and great food. Click Here For Pictures. Congratulations to Travis, Randy and Marjean.

The Flood Of 04!!! Click Here For Pictures
Most of you have already heard the story. May 22, a Saturday night, our neighbor knocked on the door about 8:00 pm asking to borrow our wet vac, no problem. It was raining hard and we were following the radar, like most of Iowa on TV. The big storms were going south of us. We checked our basement and discovered some wetness. Our 2 sup pumps were chugging away and we toweled up around a floor drain. No big deal. About an hour later Barb yelled to get down here because water was starting to come up the drain. We had a bucket brigade, with Dick giving the bucket to Dick and Dick taking it outside. After doing this for about an hour, Barb screamed and pointed to our downstairs toilet. It was overflowing like Niagara Falls. It did this for the next 10-12 hours! We called Gwen, who works for Service Master and she and a crew member hustled over with a large pump. We were able to keep the water from rising, it was a stalemate. Our neighbor ended up with 20 inches of backed up water from the sewer, we just had 9-10. The pictures were taken when the water was rising, it peaked about 4:00 a.m....Quite the mess, stuff floating and ruined. We have made 2 huge piles and are working on a third. Barb's beautiful wood floor she put in by herself is now gone as is all the flooring and dry wall up a couple of feet. Thousands of baseball cards have been thrown out and some really precious things, we are trying to save. Not fun. A big thanks to Doug and Jodie for helping us out, with food and man power. We attended the Nevada City Council meeting on Monday and spoke. A lift station had failed, they were slow with auxiliary pumps and acted like we were wasting their precious time. When we returned from the meeting we found a WHO TV crew was in our home filming for the news and they interviewed Barb and our neighbor. 5 streets in Nevada were affected, 30-40 homes, most far worse than ours.  One former teacher had 26 inches in their basement. Our neighbor who knocked on our door had Open House for their son that day and it just ended when the rains hit. The DM Register said we got 9 inches and 6 within an hour, but ALL of our water came up from the city pipes! So no internet for 10 days and we are just started to get things back together. Our big concern is having to go through this again, not fun. What a way to start the summer.

Nice Photos Of Bill, Sally And Their 1st Great Grandchild!! Congrats to Shelly, Scott and Ashley!!
Say "Hello" to Treyton!!
(geeze, little Shelly is a Grandma?) 5 Generations! Wow!! Click pictures to enlarge. Photos by Bill and I think Mark.

Congratulations Travis
(pictures up in a day or two)
Hard to believe, but it's the end of long and memorable journey. Travis, the last grand child (#33?) of Clarence and Dorothy Tryon will graduate from ADM this Sunday, May 23. Ceremonies start at 2:30 pm at the gym and a reception is planned from 4:30-6:30 pm after graduation out at RT's. Travis is the son of Randy and Marjean and is also the last of the Nielsen's too. (#5) It's been quite a few graduations we have all attended. Congrats to Travis, I seemed to have misplaced his senior picture, but I guess this will do for the time being. Hope to see family there and we all sure wish the very best for Travis and his family. Hard to believe it is the end of the line, but Travis says they save the best til last! Go Tigers!!

End Of An Era!!
Larry & Jan are winding down a zillion years in education! Counting the days to retirement, it will be quite a hole to fill in the Ogden school system. Best Wishes!

Densmore Family Reunion Saturday May 29!!
Maxine, Sandy and Jack will be there too!
Pass the word! I Got this message from Pat D. thanks to Donna/Bruce.
"Hello To All Of You,
On Sat. May 29, at 5:30 PM some of us have planned a little get together. Dennis is coming to Iowa and so am I. I called Carol ( she doesn't have internet) and she said she was for it. We plan to meet at the Top Hat Restaurant & Lounge in Glidden. It seemed to be a central location. Will you each let the rest of your family know about these plans as I don't have every e-mail address. I talked to the lady at Top Hat and she said they have a buffet or we can order from the menu, also they have the best Prime Rib. She would like to have an idea of how many we are talking about so if you think you can make it please let me know so I can give her a rough idea and as it gets closer she would like me to give her a closer count. I sure hope to see you. If you don't think you can come, drop a line and let me know what you have been doing the last few years and I will read it to those who make it. If someone in your family hasn't met me that's o'kay, we can either get acquainted face to face or through a letter introducing yourself who you are connected with, age, married or not, where you live and etc. as for who I am, just ask your folks or grandparents which ever the case may be. I hope to see you take care." Pat (Densmore) Slusher

Yes, some may say it is exploitation of children, but Grandpa Dick had Prom Dance Duty at NHS Saturday night. So he asked his 9 month old grand daughter to be his date. She said she would as long as she got a new outfit to wear. It was quite an experience, but I will let Alexis show and tell you what happened. Click Here for story and photos.

Tanner Gets New Job In Atlanta!!
Wonderful job opportunity and promotion!
As you know Tanner (Randy and Marjean's oldest) graduated last August from Iowa (graduating with a 3.00+ gpa!!!) and headed to Atlanta for his new job.  After 7 months of impressive work by him and being one of the states' leading sales personal in club memberships, he is now the BIG DOG as the General Manager of LA Fitness.  He started his new job this last Monday in a brand new, 2 story facility in an Atlanta, Georgia suburb. He has impressed his Mom and Dad to the MAX.  Congrats Tanner!
We are all wishing you the very best!! (photo by Randy)
Man, how many nephews are in the Health and Fitness business? Hope everyone is very successful, a Tryon tradition!!

Debbie Finishes Up Her Masters Degree!!
She celebrates with a visit from Sandy, Jim, Max and Jack! Congratulations Debbie, Ray must be so proud! Little Emily is also expecting a baby sister or brother very soon. Great times in Ohio. Here is Deb's email: What a wonderful Easter weekend...Mom, Sandy, Jim, and Jack made their way to Cleveland to spend Easter weekend with us.  It was an absolutely wonderful time!  Jack did well on the trip and Emily loved having family visit her house.  It was so fun watching Emily color Easter eggs, paint pictures and make cupcakes with Grandma, Aunt Sandy, and Uncle Jack.  Uncle Jim busy with some "fix-it" projects around the house!  We also went for a drive and stopped to get a picture of Sandy, Jack and I in front of the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame. We also owe Mary Jane a huge thank you since she traveled from Colorado to Missouri to take care of all the chores at Sandy and Jim's place so they could go on vacation!  Also attached is Steve's latest drawing.  He did this for Emily's 3rd birthday (April 30).  She loves elephants and he did a charcoal drawing of two them.  It is unbelievable.  Deb

Donnie, David and others are taking David's big Mobile Home to Colorado mountains where they plan to spend a few days skiing, horse-back riding and trout fishing.  They left yesterday.  I hope they can get that big thing through the Eisenhower tunnel?

Dan, David and Donnie opened a new business in Spencer, Iowa today, Mar. 1. An exercise and weight training facility. Good Luck Guys!! We sure hope this, and all Tryon businesses are a great success!!  I received the following email from proud Papa Dale. Today, Janet, her mother and myself, drove to Spencer to see the new building that the 3 D's purchased.  They made it into a Health Center/Weight Lifting building and will open tomorrow.  You can see by the photo that it is a very large building.  There is a large parking area to the west which does not show up in photos below.  They made the upper part into the Health Center and hope to rent out the lower part.  If going through Spencer (on main street), just go to 3rd street (down town) and go 1/2 block to the west.  We were very impressed with the work that they have done and hope they have success with this new business venture.  I hope you enjoy the following 5 photos that I took today.  Dale (Click photo to enlarge, genius by DBT)

Todd Signs To Play Pro Football
With The SF Storm!!

Storm Re-Signs Defensive Powerhouses Perkins and Tryon
Thursday, February 19, 2004
The Sioux Falls Storm of the National Indoor Football League (NIFL) is pleased to announce the signing of veterans Bobby Perkins and Todd Tryon.
Perkins, a 6'1", 195 lb safety from the University of South Dakota, is returning for his fourth season with the Storm. Bobby also spent one year with the Sioux Falls Cobras of the IFL. Perkins led the Storm in interceptions last year coming away with seven on the season, as well as covering over 270 yards on kick returns. Perkins was also named to the 2003 Pacific Conference All-NIFL Team.
Tryon, a 6', 218 lb D-back from Buena Vista University is also returning for another season with the Storm. Todd, too, spent a season with the Cobras and will be in his fourth season with the Storm. He had a total of 22 tackles last season, including16 solo tackles, as well as an interception. Todd has consistently been a very versatile player, serving as a corner, safety, wide receiver, and long snapper. Todd recently opened the only 24-hour access gym in Sioux Falls, "Tryon Gym," located next to the Storm office on Minnesota Avenue.
"Both Bobby and Todd have been mainstay individuals in our program and we are excited to have them back for another season. They both know the inside and outside of our defense and will serve as almost another coach on the field," says general manager Colin Steen. For more information on Storm players and events, please call the Storm office at 605-332-4225, or visit the website at www.siouxfallsstorm.com. At Omaha Saturday

Atlantic Takes Out ADM. End with a fine 16-7 record!
ADM vs Waukee last night (Thur)...the score was 6-6 after 1 quarter!  Waukee slowed up the game, big time, but as soon as I got a lead we went to a 4 corner to score offense, pressed, and went man to man defense... went on a 57-27 run!   We need to run the floor!  Next action is the BIG one vs Atlantic tomorrow night in Waukee at 7:00 p.m.  Could be a very good game with Atlantic the pick to win our region!  Keep your eyes on the running Tigers! Coach T Go Tigers!!

Nesting With The Eagles Last Weekend!!
Dick, Barb and the two cockers spent Thursday night thru Sunday up on the Mississippi river with Barb's folks, the Watsons and Randy's (who arrived Saturday night)! We saw 2 of Brett's games. He scored 12 the first night and a whopping 26 the second vs Concordia (St. Paul) and Winona State. The Cats lost both games, but Brett sure shined. It was COLD up North, but Nancy made Mom's famous chili and life was good. WW received a "gift" of 32 hours of VHS of the old TV program Combat and we spent a few hours watching on the chilly porch. It felt like we were at the Battle of the Bulge, but we did have heaters. Barb and her Dad made Lefsa (sp?) and Nancy, Barb and Violet were the Valentine girl's as their VERY romantic husbands showered them with flowers. I even got to see Nancy making a snow angel up at St. Paul. That was quite eh, embarrassing? The bald eagles were hanging around the pagoda, just fishing. When Randy's family, including Travis and Mandy left, there were 3 eagles in the same tree right outside the porch, what a beautiful sight. Click Here for Slide Show. Ok, did I say it was COLD? It was such a great time. Thanks to Ray & Violet for hosting!

ADM Starts On Tourney Trail!!
Randy's Fighting Tigers ended their regular season with a fine 15-6 record. They start regional play tonight (Thursday) vs Waukee (there) at 7:00 p.m.  If they win they will play the DCG/Atlantic winner also at Waukee Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. Go Tigers!! and Congratulations Randy on ANOTHER fine season!!

Basketball News!!
ADM Shocks #7 Norwalk 49-31!!
ADM played #7 state rated Norwalk last night (Saturday) and WON   49-31.  They were 13-1!  ADM had a packed gym because of bringing back the 1973, 74 state basketball teams.  Larry Niemayer came back and 81 year old Wayne Cooley was in attendance, along with some other big brass from the girls' union.  He had 2 big padded chairs on the end court for Wayne and his wife to watch the game!  A very big crowd and I believe my players played with emotion and were greatly inspired!  We out scored Norwalk 20-4 in the 3rd quarter.  Coach T added a tough 1-3-1 defense and a full court man to man press (thanks WW for the advice)Go Tigers! .........RT

A Very Special Thank You!!
I received a memorable phone call from Maxine last night and she wanted to thank all of the family that sent Jack something for his 50th birthday. (Still not too late) She said words could not describe the joy, laughter and tears of all that read the cards and email to Jack. He usually goes to bed at 6:00 pm, so they went out to eat around 5:00. He does realize what is going on and recognized the pictures and who wrote what. He cannot speak, but can show that he understands. Thank you, thank you, thank you......Way to go Tryons!  I told Max that people really were impressed with Steve's drawing at Christmas and she told Deb, who sent me a few examples. They are truly wonderful. Steve was taught how to do this by another inmate, who has since been paroled. Steve started with scenery, then animals and is now doing people. Friends claim he has passed up his teacher in quality. If the drawings appear too dark or too light, that is the camera settings, not the drawings themselves. I tried to "fix" them, but may have changed them too much. Click Here To View Steve's Drawings and again, Maxine and her family send their best to all of us.

Morningside Nipped With 4 Seconds To Go!!
Beth's Mustangs (#2 in the nation) lost to #1 Dakota Weslayan 76-75 at Mitchell, SD. Beth nailed 5, three pointers and scored 17 pts! What a great game and great effort. Hope you listened on tryons.com, if not, you sure missed a wild game. Morningside grabbed a 13 pt. lead in the first half. (thanks to Beth's 4, three pointers), but the #1 team in the nation slowly fought back, until a foul was called with 4 seconds to go and the girl made them both. Wow! The place was rocking, a full house, including Warren and Nancy. Great effort girls! I think pictures may follow.

Big Win For WSC, Defeat Conference Leaders 68-65 (Morehead ST) On The Road. Go to 3-0 in conference play. Brett scores 12, with many assists and rebounds. Great Job!! Cats play again Saturday night at very tough Northern!
A Note From Steve........
Uncle Dick:
I spoke with Mother the other day and she told what the family is doing for Jack and I again this year. I am so thankful to be a part of such a loving and caring family. You ALL have done so much for us over the years. We appreciate each and everyone of our family and although Jack is unable to tell you guys how he feels, I 'm absolutely sure he feels the same way I do. That guy, (like I) has had a hard lesson in what is really important. A Thank You to all of the Tryon's for the love and support that can only come from "Family"!! Please pass this on over the Tryon Web Page, Dick. God Bless You ALL...........Steve.
Ok, now get in gear and send something to Jack for his birthday. (see below) A story, a picture, a memory of Ray or the Folks or the old days. A little of our time means so much to others........DBT (also, on the bulletin board, Sandy left a very nice thank you to all of us)

Tryons Need You!!!
Nephew Jack (Ray and Max's) turns 50, January 9th. Sandy says he would REALLY appreciate a note or card, wishing him a Happy Birthday and some well wishes. (Most of us are well aware of his health problems since his stroke) She says he has good and bad days, but does recognize pictures and understands when letters are read to him. So here is the deal......#1) send a birthday card to the following address: Jack Tryon, 9137 Pike 466, Bowling Green, MO 63334 (don't worry about it not arriving on time, but DO IT NOW!!) or #2) Click this email link and write a nice paragraph or two that can be read to Jack. Pictures would be SUPER. Anything, just copy and paste a picture or insert one into your birthday card. Let's RALLY, Jack could use the boost. Do it for Ray and Max (God Bless Em) I know, we are all busy, but make the time, a minute or two from a lot of us would really make his day!! Even if you do not know Jack very well, tell him a good story or two on Ray. Let's make the Folks proud!!
