Travis And Tanner On The Move!
Travis, who is now working at a Carroll bank, has moved to Liquordale, eh Lidderdale. Jerry says Travie's new place is part of the senior citizen center, but I think he was pulling my leg. Congrats to Travis on his new job! He also has a new dog, a boxer named Ali. Tanner is now located in West Des Moines, near Valley High School. He will be going back to school to become a physical therapist. It was great seeing Travis, Tanner and so many others at the Tryon Christmas!
Jenna And Brett Set A Date!
Next summer, August 1st is the BIG day. The wedding will be in Des Moines. Congratulations!
Tryon Christmas Is Big Success!!
With almost 60 attending (59 by one count), the 2008 Tryon Christmas was a HUGE success. It was so great to see such a large turnout. We missed those who could not make and thought of you. Our family is really spread throughout the USA. The little kids are really growing up. (even Tanner) Lots of food and fun was had by all. It was great to see all the nieces and nephews and their families. Santa was as special as usual and I know that this event was extremely memorable to all who attended. Special thanks to Maxine for setting this up with the church and for all who helped to get it ready and cleaned up afterwards. The crafts were a super hit, too. Nice job! Sacks of candy for the kiddies, pretty cute.Wasn't it great to see so many cousins enjoying the fellowship of the day? So to save our Christmas for posterity, Click Here for a slide show with photos by Dale and DBT. Enjoy! (File is pretty large, so be patient and others may be watching at the same time, which would also slow things down)
RT Is Trucking In Dixie!!
From Randy," I just delivered this John Deere tractor loading it up in sub zero, snowy weather in Waterloo, IA and then a few days later sweated in 70 degree weather unloading in Dixieland- Bainbridge, Georgia.  I can just see CL smiling down on his little boy taking pride delivering these "adult green toys" :)  I thought of him & mom as I drove through Nashville, TN.  Tomorrow I pick up a load in Macon, GA and then up the east coast to Philadelphia, PA going through several states I have not been in before.  At Philly, I pick up a load and head back to WDM for a short Sunday break as I am usher @ 5 p.m. that day at my great Lutheran Church of Hope- a place that makes me feel so safe, wanted, & guidance.  On Monday, the highwayman heads out "ON THE ROAD AGAIN" Take care to all & Happy Holidays!"  Randy Joe

Great Video, Great Memories
While teaching the Unit on the 1950s, I always tried to emphasize the importance of those old cars. Did you know they were designed to look like jet airplanes? That is why the crome and the fins were so popular. Jets were the thing and so was Route 66, scooping the loop and drive-ins. Notice the A&W!!  What a great time to grow up.....  Click Here To Enjoy (sent by Cousin Ron)
Photos From The Waukee Church Bizarre!!
The Des Moines Register (desperate for news?) went to the Waukee Church Bizarre and took pictures that appeared online and in the paper. Well, here are 3 of people we know!! (Grandkids of Donna & Bruce) Pretty cute......

Brad & Cyler

Cole & Camden

Grandpa Slept Good!!
With over two hours of trick or treating last night, Grandpa was having a little trouble keeping up with the Super Girls, but you know, that is why you do the jogging, the sit ups, the cardio, for moments like this. A lesser physical specimen could not have done it! We made quite a haul. Here are a few pictures of my girls, including the Princess in the white dress. You got to love Halloween, my little girls sure do!!

Introducing Tyra Meaghan Tryon!!
Tyra (Tyler's daughter and grand daughter of Jerry and Jerilyn) has OFFICIALLY changed her legal last name to Tryon. Wow, congratulations to Tyra, Kristi and Tyler. This sure is wonderful news. Go Tyra Tryon!!
Bernece Crimmings Passes Away!!
She was 97, living in the Waterloo area, she was the wife if Jim Crimmings, one of the old Glidden coaches who coached the older boys. They were VERY good friends of the folks. Click Here To Read The Article That Appeared In The Carroll Paper.
Tryon Christmas Is December 7th!!
Thanks to Maxine and JJ the Methodist Church in Glidden has been reserved for the 2008 Tryon Christmas on Sunday, December 7th.. (first Sunday in December). Please try to attend. Food will be served promptly at 1:00 pm and Santa expects to arrive around 2:30 pm. Great weather is guaranteed this year!! It is hard for all of us to get together and unless it is the July 4th celebration at the lake, this is about it. So make a big effort to attend. It is always so fun to watch the kids grow up and to enjoy family fellowship together. More details to follow.........
Groupie Gets Autograph At Palin Rally!!
Yes, it was quite a site. No, not the Palin Rally in Des Moines where one TV channel reported that 10,000 wild and crazy supporters showed up to cheer an American legend. Nope, it was quite a site to see Doug, yes the Clark Kent of the family, bully his way down to the front to get Sarah's autograph. Doug and Dick drove to DM on Saturday to enjoy the rally at the Hy-Vee Center. We stood  for over an hour, and I mean standing on concrete, unable to turn around because of so many people packed in. (The media, however, had a very nice and comfortable place to work from, you know they are so important and so special.) The program started off with country music singer Aaron Tippen (sp?). He sang 8-10 songs that I had never heard before but others seemed to know the words too. Then numerous politicians spoke, highlighted by Senator Chuck Grassley. About an hour later, Sarah showed up with two of her young girls, no Todd, no baby. She spoke for 30-40 minutes with a very rowdy crowd (Drill Baby Drill) helping her along the way. After the speech, she made her way down the stage, shook hands and gave out autographs. This is when Doug made his move! We were about 12-15 rows deep, when Doug, dug his way like a Story County snow plow towards the front. His big break came when a couple of Hispanic kids moved out after getting their autograph. Sarah looked Doug in the eye, took the paper and Doug said "God Bless you, Sarah" and she said "Thanks." Pretty neat moment. Then a  rather large secret service agent told  Doug and the crowd NOT to move forward, but the crowd was really pushing. So, like what are the odds? I would say 50/10,000. Way to go Doug! Now you know this story is true, because Truth is a high priority at tryons.com and this reporter was a witness and here are the pictures.

Due To Popular Demand!!
I may? have fixed the Tryon Bulletin Board. There have been numerous requests to fix it. Sometimes I have to publish web pages manually. When this happens, that is why some of the posts did not show up, as I cannot post what you wrote manually. If this fix does not work, then I have Plan B ready to go. Feel free to post and let me know if it is not taking it again.
ISU Football Coach Interviewed!!
These quotes are from Iowa State Defensive Coordinator, Wayne Bolt, as they appeared in the DM Register. "Wayne Bolt remains oblivious to Internet message boards and rarely tunes in to sports talk radio. He does go to church, however, and that's when Iowa State's defensive coordinator gets a little well-intended criticism concerning the Cyclone football program. "We get together, drink coffee and solve all the world's problems," Bolt said. "They've got all the answers. They're my boys at church," Bolt said, "and I love them." Bolt's buddies offer suggestions on strategy. "They say 'Are you listening?' " Bolt recalled. "I say 'Oh, yeah.'" 'Are going to do it?' And I say, 'No.' "  Now wait a minute, Is there anyone WE know that may go to church in North Ames, Hmmmmmmm? Any opinionated, ex-coaches that are huge Iowa State fans? Hmmmmmm? Does this remind anyone of that guy named Swisher (or was it Slusher?) from Sac City? or Tommy, the guy who calls Sound Off all the time? Could it be Dale? getting the ear of this guy at church? Go get'em Dale. After watching ISU v Nebraska, I would say they better listen to some advice! Kind of reminds me of the OLD days when Jerilyn used to "help" Earle Bruce coach.......
Go Tampa Bay Rays!!
I  really have not gotten into the baseball playoffs this year as the Orioles have not been in them since Brooks Robinson retired, but Go Tampa!! I know a few people who are really cheering for the Rays. Jim and Nancy H are Mr. and Mrs. Tampa Bay, well at least until they departed for Tennessee. Jim (now Mr. Vol and Mr. Titan, is Vanderbilt next?) has been a big fan of The Rays for years and now the Rays are finally achieving some glory. Jim has not been this excited since Drake basketball made their big run last season. Oh, and there was Zach Johnson winning the Masters, too. Then there is David, who last spring, was in Vegas and put a couple of bucks on Tampa Bay to win it all. It was a 180-1 long shot!! Good Luck, David!! So if you are a Cub or Yankee fan and are still pouting, root for the Rays, I know I am. Go Tampa!! How could you not cheer for a team named after Brother Ray?
Cierra Plott Is Named Homecoming Queen!!
Congratulations to Cierra Plott, daughter of Amy, grand daughter of Tom and great-grand daughter of Maxine, who was just chosen as 2008 Homecoming Queen for the Hollister, Missouri Tigers!!. Hollister is located near Branson, Missouri. I see the Tigers are undefeated!! Congrats to Cierra, Amy, Tom and Maxine!! Go Tigers!!
Computer Boy (Tryon Geek Squad) Gives Help...
DBT helps Debbie, Dale and RT with their web sites and has launched a new site of his own. Deb, Scott and family spent a wonderful Saturday afternoon going for a walk and working on building web sites. It was great to see the kids playing and eating popsicles.  DBT also helped to fine tune Dale's site last week and is working on a site for RT. DBT launched a new, but very small experimental venture called www.battlefieldscout.com. He hopes to make a few pennies with the advertising and does not plan on selling any of his products, but products from other people from that site. There will be products to buy next week.   He is working on two more sites, which should be launched next week. The Tryon Webmaster knows web building but very little about computer hardware issues.. You better contact Bruce for that....DBT has some other surprises coming this way that could? affect you!!
Pretty In Pink!!
Well, this weekend, four of the family's top golfers went to Lawrence, Kansas and competed in Baker University's Super Scramble. Dick, Randy, Tyler and Jerry shot a BLAZING 9 under par 63 and finished 3rd in the third flight. (there were six flights and you had to declare which flight at the beginning). They won many t-shirts, sweatshirts and high praise from the Kansas locals. There were 60 teams and 260 golfers playing on one of the top public courses in America. That score certainly put them in the top twenty. Jerry supplied Team Tryon (aka White Buffalo's Posse) with bright pink shirts and the teasing we got from the other golfers was tough to take. I had dozens of comments on how much guts it took to wear pink in front of 260 other men. Well, us REAL men can take it. Now this was no ordinary tournament. Rick Weaver, good Tryon friend and Head Basketball coach at Baker, put on quite possibly the wildest golf tournament in the nation. The rules were a little different, like the one putt rule, after putting once the team picks it up, speeds play and no double bogey's. On almost every hole there was some kind of prize. Randy had the BEST chip on hole number 16 and Dick won the longest putt on 14. Tyler made the finals in the chipping contest. There was an Obama-McCain hole where the green had two holes and the left wingers went left (Randy) and the right wingers went right (DBT). Hole number ten had the beautiful Baker Dancing girls. You could dance for them and they would judge you and  let the team tee off at different spots if you did well or poorly. For $5, they would dance and you could use the red tees. (we paid the five bucks) There was a roving "stud" golfer you could hire for $5 to help your team with a shot. The wildest hole was number 1, where they had three college HECKLERS, complete with sound system, drums, cymbals, sirens and they would yell insults during your drive. When the Pink Boys showed up, they went crazy, asking us if we were married (to each other) making fun of our golf swings and Randy really got it when they noticed his $10 shoes from Wal-Mart. (Velcro) Dick was laughing so hard that he accidently knocked the ball off his tee and that was his drive!! Super food, RT and JJ hit the bean soup and corn bread before we started so that did not help the air quality. Dick and Tyler ate their limit of Polish Dogs. All the food and drink was free and when we finished, we had catered sandwiches, potatoes, salads etc. Wow, what a day and Weaver treated us like Kings. Dick was the designated driver, which is cute because he has problems seeing at night, just ask the raccoons. Even though we left at 3:30 a.m from Iowa and returned around 11:30 p.m. it was a super day at the Super Scramble. Special thanks to Rick for all that he did, (he constantly drove around in a golf cart, using a bull horn to heckle and disrupt play) it was great seeing such a good  friend.   Go BAKER !!!
Tears In My Eyes...
I just love old TV Westerns, always have. I also like to watch those old Western movies too. The movies were black and white and the bad guys never rode a white horse. I sure wish my little girls could grow up to the values that were taught by Gene Autry, Gunsmoke and The Range Rider. Well, Dale sent me the following link this week and I sure love it and bet that some of you will to. I did not make it, but it is my kind of video. The first time thru you will be mesmerized by the dates, but the second time through, try to soak up the memories that those pictures bring back. I TIVO Maverick (DirectTV 529) every day and watch an episode before going to bed, it brings me back to that old house in Glidden, Sunday night, 6:00 pm, usually eating egg salad sandwiches and laying on the carpet in front of the TV. (we never did have enough chairs) Click Here To Enjoy The Video.
Tim Wins Tryon World Series!!
The Story City Sluggers defeated the Nevada Fat Boys 235-152 in the 2008 Tryon World Series. This is Tim's first championship banner and anyone who can trounce DBT's Fat Boys certainly deserves the title. Tim used a balanced hitting attack, let by Vernon Wells and Gary Sheffield and a pitching staff that went a blazing 6-1 last week, while the Fat Boys got tired with a 2-5 mark. Congrats to Tim, I am sure LT is up there smiling!!
What Happens In Vegas Stays In Vegas?
Well, guess who has been nominated (by a disgruntled ISU fan)  for Sap Of The Month?. Hmmmmm...Who traveled to Vegas to watch ISU play last week, then LEFT the game with 6 minutes to go and missed the greatest 99 yard drive in ISU football history and he missed the entire overtime? Did Dale need a potty break? Was it past his bedtime? or was it to HUSTLE back to his new found friends? (see top photo) Dale told his new friends that he was the GOVERNOR  OF IOWA!!.....and Man, were they excited. Then he flashes (in true Daley fashion) his WAD OF CASH!! Wow, did you know he spent more time at Hooters than he did at Glacier Park? (And he told Janet this was a "scenic" vacation) Remember the last time Dale went to Vegas he lost his suitcase full of underwear. He said someone broke into his hotel room and stole it, yea right  Well, that is what he told Janet..  Click to enlarge the photos.
Brett Dancing With The Stars?
Rumor has it that Brett played basketball against a very classy group from Harlem - 4 guys and one very cute gal.  Did Brett get tackled by a 5"4" black gal right on the gym floor?  Did she hold up her WWF belt after she beat him?  Did Brett dance all over the court with her?  Did he flirt with her like a raging bull elk during the rut?  Get your copy of the National Enquirer at news stands near you soon!  Enquiring minds want the real story.        Signed                 A. Nonnie Mouse

Brett VS Harlem Ambassadors On Wednesday!!
A team of Adel celebrities will play basketball against the Harlem Ambassadors this Wednesday. The game is sponsored by the Adel Rotary, of which Cousin Ron is a member. Game time is 7:00 pm at the high school. Go ADM Benchwarmers!
Super Max Leads Team To Victory!!
Jerry and Jerilyn had a great time this week going to Max's 8th grade football game. Max is the their grandson and the son of Tammi and Craig. Max played QB and Safety and his Vinton team defeated Independence 34-0. Great job Max!!
Highwayman For McCain!!??
RT is driving people to the McCain -Palin rally in Cedar Rapids. That has to be a long day for such an Obama supporter. Randy is also driving the ISU Football team to the airport for their flight to Vegas, where Dale, Janet, David and others will be cheering on the Clones against UNLV. Go Clones.
Big Game Week!!
It may rain Saturday, but this is the week of the Iowa vs Iowa State football game. We have MANY Clone and Hawkeye fans that will be cheering on their favorite team. One (RT) just sent me his prediction, notice the picture. Both teams are 2-0, with ISU playing at least one legit team, Iowa none. The game is at Iowa, so that kind of evens out. Iowa is a 13 point favorite, but I would say no way, it will be another heated rivalry game.
Report From GOP Convention!!
From RT (Cub Reporter) "Lots of excitement up here at the GOP.  My bus #22 goes to the Sofitel Hotel and picks up the High Rollers.  The Terminator was there yesterday and a lady on my bus rode the elevator with him.  I have had the Gov. from Utah and Meg Whitman (CEO of Ebay).  Lots & lots of neat people.  Lots and lots of protesters.  I have had 6 people lay down in front of the bus, bricks thrown through some buses, tires flattened, graffiti sprayed on sides of buses, etc.  1000's of cops everywhere.  Over 5,000 manhole covers were spot welded to keep people out of the sewer systems and getting inside the unsecured area.  Plenty of snipers ready to shoot on roof tops!  We had one bus go off course and had 30 delegates attacked with bleach as they were walking off secure ground.  Plenty of neat stories to tell.
I snuck in the Delegate party Sunday night and brushed shoulders with many.  Helped my self to the fancy food and free drinks....."The Highwayman
Cris Finishes 5th In Nationals!!
Crystal DeBey (Gaylord's daughter) recently competed in the 66th Womens' National Water Skiing Championship in West Palm Beach, Florida (presented by  Speedo).  Cris finished 5th and if I am not mistaken, won it one year. Way to go Cris, we are all very proud of you!!!

Sally's Mother Passes Away........
I got the following note from Sally:
"Just letting you know my Mom passed away last evening(Sun) from complications from her hip surgery. She was surrounded by her family and lots of love and we will sorely miss her. Arrangements are pending at this time." Sally  Very Sad News, Our deepest sympathies for Sally and her family.
From The Republican Convention!!
Our Cub reporter has checked in......"today I drive for the Delegate party tonight.  Only Windstar drives for this special party.  All buses up here have an armed cop riding with them and we were told yesterday of tens of thousands of protesters might disrupt our path!??!?!?!?  Security is real tight and it looks like they expect trouble.  Pretty neat stuff we are seeing behind the scenes.  The hurricane might delay us one day.....take care." RJT
Big Wind Hits Denver!!
No, I am not talking about Bill Clinton, Hillary, Biden or Barack, but about a tornado which came EXTREMELY close to Mark Tryon's (Jim T's son) home, around Denver near the opening of the Democratic Convention. His neighbor took these unbelievable pictures. Thankfully, no one was hurt and very little damage. Speaking of Denver, did I see Cousin Jimmy out in the streets with the other kooks? or was he protesting the protesters? Click Here for an actual schedule of events found on the floor at the Democratic National Convention Site,.......Believe It Or Not!!
Sally's Mother Falls!!
I received the following from Sally::" I just wanted to let you know about my Mom. Last Saturday night she fell in her bedroom and laid there until Sunday noon with a broken hip. She is doing much better, but is going to have surgery tomorrow morning (Thursday), which is pretty risky for a person who is 96 years old, but if they don't do it she will be in too much pain and completely bedridden. Please keep her in your prayers"......Sally  All of our thoughts and prayers are with Sally, her  Mom and family. She is in Mercy Hospital in Sioux City. Update..... "Just wanted to give you an update on her surgery. She did really well and they are going to have her up walking today. She's a tough little lady." Sally
Update On Hulse......
From Jim H: "The doctor released me yesterday and I can now start to exercise and rehab. I lost a lot of weight which is good. I need a new wardrobe. Ha. I also lost most of my muscle tone since I have been unable to exercise for 8 weeks. I can't even lift a 5 lb. weight without resting after about 10 reps. UGH."  Good News, Jim, Get Well Soon!!
Tailgate @ ISU Game!!
Dale and Janet want all relatives to know that they will be hosting a "tailgate" next Thursday before the ISU/SDS football game.  We will be in section C-5 (in the large parking lot North of the Jacobson building) and just to the East of the long row of ISU tents.  We will have our 6 ft. white Tryon flag up (see photo).  We will be furnishing brats, etc. at 5:00 to 6:15.  We need to close up at 6:15 in order to take in the pre-game ceremonies.  Game starts at 7:00.  Danny, Donnie and David plan to attend.  See you then.
Lynn Is Hospitalized!!
Lynn has spent the last 4 days in the Sioux Falls hospital. He had his gall bladder removed yesterday and he has also had an angiogram procedure done, which showed no heart damage. Geeze, JJ said Lynn is 38, are you kidding me? Everyone wishes him the best, get well soon, Lynn!!
Johnny Breaks His Hand!!
Johnny, DBT's son in law, broke his hand this week while helping a friend with a mean, nasty horse. The horse kicked him in the hand. Johnny has broken this hand numerous times while riding bulls, so he has to go to a specialist next week. Good Luck Johnny!
Golfing With Dow
Tuesday, Dale, JJ and DBT had a great time golfing with Dow, Mary Jane's husband. Mary Jane and family are visiting Iowa this week and are staying with Sandy and Jack.  It was a beautiful day as Dow got quite an education on how to golf the Tryon way. Great fun, he is currently working at the Cripple Creek Casino in Colorado. Dow attended Manitou Springs High School with Sandy and Jack!
Olympic Fever!!
Brett is caught up in Olympic fever as he was recently seen playing Figure Skating with the WII gaming console. (Did Brad buy Figure Skating or did Brett bring it over?) Brett was at Julie's and her boys were in SHOCK as their idol Brett kept dancing like a 13, eh 16 year old Chinese gymnast. Not real macho and I hate to think what he was wearing. I wonder if his students know? Brett used to play Madden, I guess too many teacher inservices will change a guy. Ok, is it just me or are swimming, beach volleyball and gymnastics the only Olympic sports? AND I am a little tired of learning about Pandas (they eat wheat biscuits, you know) and stories about Chinese food too and is there ANY athlete who has not overcome terrible tragedies in their lives? (tears just flow) Where is the boxing?, basketball?, wrestling?, weightlifting? I realize there are people in the ADM/Waukee area who enjoy synchronized diving and those cute outfits, but enough is enough!! Oh, and nice judging in the women's all around.....Geeze....What time is the next NFL exhibition game?
Sioux Falls Storm Wins  4th Title  In A Row!!
Man, they are doing something right. The Sioux Falls Storm Arena Football team won their 4th championship in 4 seasons, Todd is an assistant coach and former player. Then, after winning their championship, they waited 3 weeks to play a Louisiana team that won the Texas League and had a 19 game winning streak. Guess what, the Storm whipped them 54-42 with 7 players gone!! Sioux Falls has now won 33 straight home games, Wow. Must be the workouts they get at Tryon Gym. Congrats to Todd on another great season!
Melody Dances At The State Fair!!
On Thursday, Melody, the daughter of Jodie and Doug will be performing at the Iowa State Fair. Her dance team will be dancing an Irish River Dance. Dale, Janet, Jodie and Doug are attending. Hope to have a picture or two later......
Wesley Lamberson Dies In Farm Accident!!
Very sad news to report. Josh's Dad, Wesley, age 54, died in a freak farm accident on Saturday afternoon. Click Here for the story. Josh is Mandy's future husband and current assistant football coach at SE Oklahoma State. Wes was Josh's #1 football fan, an elementary principal in Platteville, Nebraska,  who farmed on the side and knowing Josh, just a wonderful, wonderful man. His tractor overturned on a side hill. Visitation is Tuesday- August 5th from 5-8 p.m. @ the Svoboda Funeral Home, 211 N. Linden St. , Wahoo, NE. The Funeral is Wednesday- August 6th at 2 p.m. @ the Covenant Church, 1540 County Rd 10   Mead, NE  (30 miles west of Omaha). The Tryon family gives our sincere sympathy to Josh, Marcia, Rebecca, & Mandy (to be) Lamberson.  The Lambersons lost a GREAT man and the Tryons are praying & hurting as you are. Hot Time At Golf Tournament!!
What a great time everyone had at the monthly Coon Rapids 4 person best ball golf tournament. The temperature was 98 and the heat index was off the charts, but it was not as hot as the golfers were. A new Tryon record was set by the team of Bruce, Brad, Dale and Dick. They shot a blazing 9 under par 31-30=61. The other team of Jerry, Tyler, Randy and Eric also broke the old record (-5) as they shot a 6 under 64, Wow!! Lots of laughs and memories. Randy (the Red Bull) had trouble keeping his golf clubs on his cart. Brad never did find the fairway,  DBT (aka Tin Cup) flexed his bronzed, sweating, gleaming, chiseled muscles (courtesy of Tryon Gym) and ripped an 8 iron off of the tee on hole number 6. Literally, the 8 iron head went 75 yards and his ball went about 45, breaking his favorite club amidst roars of laughter. The greatest moment, possibly in Tryon golf history, occurred when Dale (the guy who ALWAYS mutters he never has any luck) made the greatest golf shot anyone had EVER seen. Click Here for the animated description of the Shot Of The Century. Dale meets Mr. Woody! (turn up your speakers, click the arrow in the middle of the video and it takes a little time to load.  Now if it was not for Dale's lucky shot, the two teams were only a stroke apart! Great competition. You have to think that Ray, Bill and Larry were laughing their heads off. Special thanks to Tyler for helping to organize this great and enjoyable outing!
Maxine Says Thanks!!
Maxine sent word that she is very appreciative of everything family and friends did to make her birthday special. It was a very special day. See story below and Click Here For Slide Show.
Travis Graduates From NWMS!!
Nice Job Travis!! On Thursday, July 31st, Travis graduates from Northwest Missouri State University with a degree in some type of physical therapy. Congratulations to Travis, we are all very proud of you. Everyone of RT's kids have now graduated from college. That is quite a feat!! Randy is down in Maryville helping to celebrate with Mandy, Josh and Travis. Way To Go Travie!!
Jerry Shoots A Hole In One!!
Yes and he had a witness. In fact, this may be a world record. How many have shot a hole in one and ONLY played one hole? While waiting for Maxine's birthday party, JJ took DBT for a ride in his golf cart, showing him his own personal course. We played one hole, the par 3 number 7. JJ took a nine iron and according to his GPS golf cart it was 102 yards. Now DBT, who cannot see past his nose, did see JJ's ball take off and said, "Hey, good shot." (but he says that all the time anyway) We walked to the green and it was right in the cup. First thing JJ says is, "Shush, don't tell anyone."....Huh?....Oh, seems the Men's golf league was just getting ready to start and can you imagine how many "rounds" that would have cost? Congrats to JJ, this story is strange, but true.
Brad's Team Wins Iowa Games Title!!
Brad's adult baseball team won the 2008 Iowa Games Baseball Championship. Brad pitched two innings in the semi-final game and then pitched 6 in the Championship game. Wow, what a ringer to bring in!! Way to go Brad, can he lift his arm today? Did his boys play in the outfield? So let's see, Brad wins the baseball, Brett the basketball, how about forming a Tryon soccer team next year? Ok, maybe checkers.....do they have a hot dog eating contest?

Surprise!!
An impromptu birthday party was held for Maxine in Carroll on Thursday night at The Club House. Over 30 people surprised Maxine and all had a great meal and a great time. Tryons, Walkups and Glidden friends helped Maxine to enjoy this very special occasion. Click Here For Slide Show, photos by Dale and WW.

Brett's Team Wins Iowa Games!!
Brett's basketball team, made up of mainly Wayne State alumni (except Levi) have won the Men's Iowa Games Basketball Championship. They have been in the finals 6 out of the last 7 years and have won most of those, Wow. They had a two point game in the opener and then breezed through the competition as they defended their title. Is this the Rico influence? Congrats Brett!! WW, Nancy, Dale, Janet and I think Doug and Jodie attended the games in Ames last weekend.
Beth And Ryan Are Back!!
Beth and Ryan have returned from their honeymoon in Cancun. Just in time to get ahead of hurricane Dolly. Click Here For The Slide Show Of Their Big Day. Best wishes to Beth, Ryan and both families. Welcome Back to stormy Iowa. Photos by Watson
Happy Birthday Alexis!!
Last week, Grandpa took Gwen, Johnny, Cassidi and Alexis to Adventureland for Alexis' 5th birthday. It was a super time. We all had tons of fun. Half the fun was watching Alexis on the rides, but the other half was watching Gwen. I think she had more fun than anyone. We all enjoyed the circus, we almost could not get Gwen and Alexis off the frog hopper and Gwen and Johnny did ride the big rocket tower. Oh, Grandpa rode a few rides too and did not get sick on the tea cups like Brad did. CLICK HERE for the Slide Show.
Dan Does RAGBRAI!!
From Danny:.... "Myself and comedian, Collin Moultin, are going to ride the 2nd and 3rd days of RAGBRAI. We are going to join Ev Petersen's team (Janet's brother). Ev and his gang are going all seven days. Aunt Nancy is going to host all 6 of us for ebelsceesers on Monday morning. My friend Collin from LA is falling in love with RAGBRAI after I took him on 1 day last year and this will be his first taste of a good ole Danish dish. After going to Beth's wedding, I'm not quite so excited about biking thru those hills around Elk Horn. Are there any other Tryon's doing the ride that you know of? My cell is 712-320-6888 if they want to try to hang with us speed racers......Dan" Photos by Watson
Mark Densmore Is Featured!!
Mark Densmore, son of Russell, was featured in the Des Moines Register Business Section this week as a person you should get to know. Click Here For The Story. Congrats to Mark and family, we are all very proud of you!! (and all former Guthrie Center Tigers!!)
Mike Hulsebus Has Mini Stroke!!
Geeze..... Nancy H. just wrote the following: "More bad news... Just got a call from Lynn .. She told me that Mike had a mini stroke.... (or three TIA's) ... He is currently at Mercy Hospital being tested..  It happened today at his office... Thank God he wasn't driving....  I'll keep you posted... We sure have a lot to pray about these days. Jim's condition continues to improve. He's doing pretty well; however, I don't know when he'll be released from the hospital." Love, Nancy
Darlene To Celebrate 50th Wedding Anniversary!!
There will be an open house celebration of Darlene and Charles Carrigan at the Gold Slipper in Dunlap, Iowa on Saturday, July 26, 2008 to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. 2:00-4:00 pm, dress casual and No Gifts please. Congratulations to Darlene and Charles from all of the Tryons!!
Jim H. Is Out Of Intensive Care!!
The Latest.....
Jim's condition has substantially improved. In fact he's come from critical to serious to fair condition.
He had his first meal this afternoon and they moved him out of ICU into a regular hospital room. He still has a lot of pain and recovery will take about six weeks or longer per the surgeon.
He sends his best to everyone and thanks everyone for their prayers and thoughts.  Since he's not yet out of the woods, please continue to pray for a speedy recovery.....Love, Nancy
The latest......Jim is breathing on his own, will be in Intensive Care a few more days, he is listed as Serious...some tubes were pulled today (Tuesday) and Nancy thought he looked much better. Nancy wishes to express her thanks for everyone's thoughts and prayers. Nancy H just called and said Jim had his gall bladder removed, he lost lots of blood and will be in the ICU for a few days. Numerous gall stones and a near rupture meant it was more serious than they previously thought. Instead of the arthroscopic way of doing it, they had to do the old fashion way. It will take quite a while to recover, he thinks there goes his golf for the summer. Now this is after having knee surgery earlier, Yipes. Get Well Soon Jim!! Nancy said she will keep us posted.
Congrats To Michael And Courtney!!
Cindy and Mike Tryon have announced the engagement of their oldest son Michael to Miss Courtney Teel of Illinois. Plans are very tentative, but the wedding appears to be next summer, June 20th, in the Chicago area. More details will follow as they become available. Click Here for the link to their wedding website. You can read about how they met in college, view pictures, sign their guestbook and follow their plans on their website. Best wishes to Michael and Courtney.
Jim Hulsebus Is In The Hospital!!
Nancy just emailed me that Jim was complaining about stomach pains last night and this morning and they had better get to the hospital ASAP. Tests were run and it appears it is numerous gall stones and a kidney stone. They are going to operate for the gall stones tomorrow.  (Monday) More info as it arrives. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jim and Nancy.
Beth And Ryan's Big Day!!
What a wonderful day. Congratulations to Beth and Ryan, their parents and all of their families on a beautiful day to celebrate the marriage of Beth and Ryan. It was a special time for all. Here are a few pictures. We all welcome Ryan into our family and wish the happy couple nothing but the best.

Thanks!
A big Tryon Salute to all of the people who made the July 4th celebration so memorable. Thanks for letting DBT get in line first, he actually saw some deviled eggs. Thanks for the very nice gifts. Some were very thoughtful and some were rather ornery, but all were very much appreciated. Two examples, the first photo was a reminder of gifts of yesteryear and the other example is a wonderful book that will be enjoyable to read. Lots and lots of golf balls (many from the LT collection), gift certificates, cash, fantasy coaching help, coloring books with colors and even some toilet paper! Is he really that full of it? Click Here for the Slide Show of the event and thanks again.
The Amazing Adventures Of Super Dog!!
Faster than a speeding bullet, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, Ruff Ruff and Away.......It's Gunner, Randy's Super Dog, who finished in FIRST PLACE in a dock jumping contest in Chicago. Gunner out jumped 38 other dogs to win the title in his division. Last summer, Gunner also won FIRST PLACE at the Nebraska State Fair. These contests are run by Cabella's, the big outdoor store. If RT's bus schedules allows, Randy plans on entering Gunner in a contest in St. Louis in late July.. Click to view the Amazing Gunner, actual photo collage of Gunner, himself, in action!!

Another Memorable Time At The Lake!!
A Tryon Salute to Donna and Bruce for hosting the annual Tryon 4th of July Celebration at The Lake. Over 40 attended (the number was down because of the festivities this week, I think) and EVERYONE had a super time. The highlight was the fishing off the dock by Jack and Sandy. Four large fish were caught in minutes, with the largest one getting away. Sandy reeled in some real whoppers, then Jack caught the smallest fish in the lake, it got lots of laughs. The kids (and grownups) loved watching the action. Notice the classic photo of Jack, who was quite the character with his animations and colorful language. Zach upset Brett in the annual Spoons Championship with Nancy (the Claw) finishing third. Dick received a "shower" for his retirement with lots of nice gifts and some gag ones too,  and he even sang the Grandpa Song with Alexis. (which if you did not figure out was made up) It was great as always seeing Jim and Nancy H, who drove from Tennessee to be with us and we sure missed those we lost last year. The weather and food was great and it truly was a memorable day. Slide show pictures are being delayed because of a glitch in DBT's camera battery. It should be worked out shortly.

Mandy And Josh Announce Engagement!!
Big News from Missouri......Mandy and Josh are officially engaged as of last Thursday night. No date has yet been announced for their wedding. Wow this is big news. They will both be at Beth's wedding next week, so you can congratulate them there. It will be super to have another coach in the family as Josh was just hired to coach football at Southeast Oklahoma State last month. Congrats again to Mandy and Josh!! Gosh, where has the time gone? Seems like yesterday Mandy and Beth were those cute little girls running around together........

Fun At Adventureland!!
Dale's entire family had a great time at Adventureland this week. The weather was perfect. The best story was Donnie bragging to Melody and Katie Marie that he would win them a stuffed dog or cat. He went to the age guesser guy. The "expert" said Donnie was 58 years old! (He is 44) so Donnie won a big prize. He then went to another age guesser guy and BOTH times he won big prizes. Donnie says those people can NEVER come close to his age. I am not sure that is such a good thing. I heard Donnie's softball buddies think that he plays MUCH older than 58........

Latest On The Highwayman

In late May, I took the Sidney H.S. band/choir to Orlando for 8 days and the Sidney Superintendent rode as one of the chaperones (he knew Dr. Gaylord), I took 46 women to Ohio last week to the Longaberger factory where they make the wicker baskets (they requested me as I had them last summer too).  I took a Catholic Church group to Minnesota for 6 days doing mission work in early June.  This week I am in Kansas City as I brought a Methodist Church group here to do mission work.  Whenever I am on the road & miss my Lutheran Hope Church, I always find a Church to attend.  I have been to services in Fargo, Chicago, and Atlanta, just to name a few while on the road!!!!  At Hope, I am on an usher team the first Sunday of each month at 5 p.m.

In the last month bus trips, I have had many, many Iowa people coming up to me (giving love & support) dealing with the loss of brother Larry.  It really shows how popular Big Larry was. I cannot believe he is gone.

Windstar Lines WON the bid to drive for the Republic GOP conventions in Minneapolis in late August & early September.  I will be ONE of the chosen drivers representing Windstar and will be driving for 7 days during that time.  The chosen drivers have to go two days early to attend special classes dealing with terrorism and other threats.  Wow, should I wear my Obama buttons supporting my man?
Senator Obama will definitely be the next President of the United States and "I have a dream".....  I have some Democratic connections and would love to be employed as his main chauffeur in DC.  I know he has had 100's of other drivers nation wide, BUT I was always requested by his staff in Iowa & drove for him 5 times!  Barack knows me on first name basis & I even socialized with him off the record late at nights.  Keep your eyes on Obama &
RJT next fall............Stay in good health, hug the ones you love, & may God Bless.........Randy Joe
Steve Is Training A Special Dog!!
Steve is taking a pup and is training it to help impaired people. Steve will work with the 6 month old for a year and hopefully the dog will graduate on and then Steve will get another dog to work with. If the dog is accepted, and it looks like he will, then the dog will help the disabled and become a very valuable canine. His current dog is named Bo, and Bo, a black lab,  is doing just super. The dog has the voice commands down pat and is now working on the signals. Pictured is Sandy, Steve, Jack and Bo. This is a great story, ask Sandy or Max about it when you see them on the 4th.
Ouch!!
Donnie was leaving his house the other day, when a man walked up to him and asked Donnie if he could mow his lawn. The guy looked like he could use the job and it was getting a little long anyway.  Donnie said, "OK, I will leave $20 in an envelope inside the door." When Donnie returned home the money was gone......and the lawn was NOT mowed.......Ouch, sounds like a Chicago story.
Mike Hulsebus' Mother Passes Away.......
Mike's mother, Rachel Scott, (75) died yesterday. Funeral arrangements are pending, but it seems they will be in Storm Lake. Rachel was Kenny's first wife. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of the Hulsebus family, especially Mike's.
Doris Stokke Falls......
Doris, mother of Doug, fell and badly hurt her hip. She laid by the car in the garage for an hour and a half. She is having surgery today in Ames. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of the Stokkes. Get well soon, Doris, We sure enjoy you at the Tryon celebrations. Update-----Doris is doing well, she had a two hour procedure. They replaced the ball joint on her right femur...the pelvic bone was not broken, which is good news. Doug says she appreciates the support she has received.
Hey, This Ain't Iowa......
Tanner recently moved to Chicago and to save on the high price of gasoline, he and his friend AJ bought very nice bikes to get around downtown Chicago, go to go work, etc. Well, it was not a couple of days before they were stolen. They chained them up, came out a couple of minutes later and someone had used a chain cutter and snipped the heavy duty chain and took off with their bikes! Hey, this isn't Iowa anymore. Tanner also announced he already has tickets for the Iowa-ISU football game this fall. He says, "Go Hawks!"

Fun On The Farm!!
(Now, this IS Iowa)

Just a few pictures of my girls doing chores, looks like fun to me. Johnny and Gwen raise bucking bulls, their business is called www.flatlandbulls.com . and is located North of Story City about four miles.

Josh and Mandy are moving to Oklahoma as Josh was named QB coach for Southeast Oklahoma State University, the Savage Storm. He will also teach two classes. Good Luck Mandy and Josh!!
SPIRIT!!
What a wonderful day!! 43 showed up to walk and 29 went to Julie's afterwards. It was quite an experience. Over 2000 walkers walked the routes in Des Moines on a humid, but comfortable day. It was great to see so many attend and from around the country we had others show their support by wearing their T-shirts, Our goal was to raise $500 and we raised $2358, Wow! It was a great day to honor ALL of the friends and family that we have lost to heart problems and stroke. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. Click Here For Slide Show.  Many came from many miles to take part and to see the sites, like Big Jack (Our Grand Marshall) driving his John Deere, RT with his and Sandy's dog, Shonna sharing a NEW salsa recipe (with gum?), DBT actually finishing the THREE MILE walk with a new technique he invented (see slide show) and Brett going for a new belly flop record on the wet grass. It was a great day. Click Here if you wish to have any of the pictures that were taken. Just enlarge, then save them on your computer. (right click with PC) Special thanks to Julie and Nancy for the idea and for our WONDERFUL friends at The Graphic Edge. Our T-shirts DOMINATED!!

Team Tryon Cracks $2000!!
Team Tryon is currently ranked #8. We also made a change to the logo. We really wish to honor ALL of our friends and relatives who have passed due to heart or stroke attacks. From Aunt Helen, to Uncle June, to Albert H, to Russell Densmore, to Janet and Jan's Dad, to Jerilyn's Mom and many many others. Just too many to list. Jack, a stroke survivor, will be there to do the walk. Their is a major effort to find out the route, so stay tuned and it sounds like a person can walk as much or as little as they wish. Hope to see many of you there and look for another update soon.

To Honor Ray, Bill And Larry.......and so many others.
Julie and Nancy have come up with a wonderful idea. June 7, Des Moines Heart Walk...TEAM TRYON will be on the roads! WHY in the world????
1)  It will be awesome to walk in memory of Ray, Bill and Larry!
2)  It's a healthy thing to do.
3)  It's FUN to be together...  and
4) The money raised goes to an incredible organization!

Let's make this happen!!!!  So...I already signed us up. The Des Moines Heart Walk is Sat, June 7 at 8:00 at the State Capitol-West Terrace.  Bring the strollers, family, friends, etc to registration and warm up and then the walk officially begins at 9:00 a.m.  When signing us up (Yes, I'm pushy!), I had to make a dollar goal and a number of walkers goal.  I randomly made a $500 goal with 15 walkers.  (We're already nearly 1/2 way there!  WOOHOO)  You are encouraged to ask for pledges, but certainly do not have to.  No worries!  This is a great lesson to teach our little ones too, so start now!

If you are thinking, WHEW, I am busy that day...please consider tweaking your calendar and join TEAM TRYON.  If you cannot, feel free to donate to our team's goal.  The time will be here soon!  Here's the website:  http://heartwalk.kintera.org/desmoines/tryons
If you are joining Team Tryon, click on the JOIN OUR TEAM.  If you can't make it and just want to donate to our team's goal, click on the file above that says GENERAL TEAM DONATION.  (This is tax deductible of course!)  Jerry/Christy have been working on an awesome, red Team Tryon t-shirt.  John Reglein is making them for us!  WOW!  I will have them for you that morning, and we'll ask for a donation (money to Heart Walk) as you pick up your shirt.  I need to know your shirt order BY MAY 29...what size, how many, etc.

Share this info with any family and friends you think may want to join super cool Team Tryon.  If you have any problems, questions, or worries...holler!  jbcckauf@msn.com
Iowa Barnstormers Express Their Sadness!!
John Gregory, head coach of the Iowa Barnstormers Arena Football Team, expressed his deepest sympathies to the entire Tryon family on our loss of Brother Larry. He coached in the old Midwest conference (Lake City, I believe) against Bill, Dale and Larry. He told Randy, who drove them to Oklahoma, how sad he was at the news and how much he respected the family. Randy says he is a very good guy. Go Barnstormers!!
Dick Resigns From Nevada!!
This could be the best decision ever, or the dumbest, but I have been going to school since 1955, that's 53 years and now it is the end of the road. DBT presented his resignation to his administrators this week and they accepted. (With a twinkle in their eye?) Gwen and I have been talking about this for quite a while. It is not retirement, but a change is needed and there should be some options to continue working. Maybe as a part timer at Nevada or with some other school district or maybe trying to make a little cash from my internet skills.  It would be fun to still teach an AP History class. (Advance Placement), but that cannot happen for a few months. Most teachers go until they reach the rule of 88, which is age plus years of teaching. I am at 94, so it's time to do something else after 36 years in the classroom with 2 at Jefferson, 6 at Guthrie Center and 28 at Nevada. Time to enjoy the little girls, too. NHS goes into June this year, but my last day is May 30th, so I can receive an extra IPERS check. It's gonna be tough to leave the talented colleagues I work with and especially the great kids, but I think it is time to move on to new challenges.

Larry Passes Away

Words cannot describe the sadness, loss and heart ache we all feel.
God Bless The Family.

It sure was great to see so many family members and friends at the services.

Remembering Mom On Mother's Day!!
In December of 1974, Dorothy Tryon was nominated for the State Of Iowa Mother Of The Year. She became a finalist. Top three, if I remember correctly. To honor our Mother on Mother's Day, here are the letters written on her behave by all of children. Not to embarrass anyone, but we were told to write about our accomplishments and how Mom affected us. It was suppose to be a very short and concise letter because the judges had so many to go through. Special thanks to the Watsons for supplying these treasured documents and now they are here for all of us to enjoy and remember. Wow, was 1974 a long time ago. Just click to read. You may have to scroll around a little, depending on your browser.

Lillian Hermansen, Dies at 92!!
I received the following from Dale: "Lillian "Toots" Hermansen passed away at the age of 92.  You will recall that she taught grade school at Glidden for 30 years and probably a lot of us had her as a teacher.  She is Janet's aunt.  Funeral will be in Glidden, on Saturday morning, at 10:30 a.m." She was my second or third grade teacher, I think. She was a very special person. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Hermansen family.
Jim & Nancy Back To Tennessee!!
Jim and Nancy H. are heading back to Tennessee this week, from Florida. Back to Fairfield Glade, TN 38558 for the summer. If you want their exact address, email me. They would LOVE to have some company and are announcing that they will be coming to Iowa for the July 4th festivities, which is great news!!
Glenn Britt Passes Away!!
Dale just called and gave out the very sad news that Glenn Britt, class of 1954, died very suddenly on Saturday. We all know what good friends the Britts were to the Tryons and especially the folks, so our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Britt family. Glenn was a year behind Dale and a year ahead of Gaylord, I think. He was an insurance man in Illinois and participated in numerous sports and activities with the Tryon and Hulsebus boys. He attended some of the Glidden reunions and was an avid reader of Dale's web site. He is survived by his wife, Joan and two daughters. Again, our thoughts and prayers go out to all of the Britts.
Lucille Peterson Has Moved!!
Lucille, mother of Janet, has been moved to the Abbington On Grand Nursing Home in Ames. Her health has been rather inconsistent of late. She will receive much more attention and care in the new facility. We all wish Lucille and her family the best.

Eric & VM Football Team In The Movies!!
Eric's Fighting Bulldog football team will be in a movie, called South Dakota. There are a couple of football plays that are to be run by the real Van Meter and Earlham football squads. One play has VM running the ball and the "star" jarring the ball loose. scooping the ball up and running the wrong way! Sounds like fun. The boys and Eric will be paid union scale. I believe the shooting will be done fairly soon. Go Dawgs!! Now where is the Invincible Rudy? or Longest Yard? or The Replacements? or Gridiron Gang or whatever?

A Tribute To Charlton Heston
I am sure you probably noticed, but one of Hollywood's greatest legends passed away this week at the age of 84. Charlton Heston was one of those people I always admired. I read his autobiography a couple of years ago. (In The Arena)  It was quite fascinating. He grew up in upper Michigan (Doug Country) and ran around the woods, hunting and fishing. He attended a one room school house with 13 students, no sports. Around high school age, his family moved to a suburb of Chicago. He broke his nose playing football, no face mask in those days. He said he was not a very good player, but would like to thank the guy who broke his nose, it gave his face character. He discovered acting at what he called the best high school in America. He attended Northwestern U and was hooked on the arts. He married his college sweetheart and they are married to this day. Not many Hollywood stars can say that.

He served, during World War Two, in Alaska, with a bomber group that was ordered to prepare for the Invasion of Japan, but the atomic bomb prevented that. My favorite story that he told was about Martin Luther King Jr.'s March on Washington DC in 1963. A call went out for Hollywood big shots to support and march with King and only TWO showed up, Charlton Heston and Marlon Brando. Other big time liberals who professed to care so much about Civil Rights were afraid they would hurt their careers. The Robert Redford's, Kirk Douglas' and Paul Newman's would have nothing to do with it. John F. Kennedy was out of town, too. Heston was the President of the Screen Actor's Guild longer than anyone, including Ronald Reagan. He was asked to run for the US Senator numerous times, by both political parties, but then he would have to give up acting, his real love.

Hollywood turned on him when being a conservative became a dirty word in the 1960s. He starred in over 70 movies, some of my favorites are Ben-Hur (pictured), The Greatest Show On Earth, Will Penny, The Big Country, The Ten Commandments, Planet Of The Apes, El Cid, Major Dundee and Omega Man, just to name a few. Some say the greatest 11 minutes ever put on film was the chariot race in Ben-Hur. Charlton really did drive those chariots, he practiced for weeks. Would Russell Crowe do that today? Did you know that director William Wyler wanted Burt Lancaster to play Ben-Hur and Charlton to play the bad guy Roman, Masada?. Burt was busy, so they asked Rock Hudson, who's studio would not let him do it. So they chose an Irish actor to play the bad guy. MGM put every nickel and dime into this movie, it saved the studio. TV was killing off the movies in the 1950s, so many studios turned to big budget movies, something TV could not do. That chariot race is really something on the big screen. Heston played many historical figures which I enjoyed.

I had a chance to see him in Ames. In 1996, he was campaigning for Phil Gramm, I think. It could have been Bob Dole, but I missed him. I was reading the other day how impersonators cannot impersonate today's Hollywood stars because none of them are very unique. (It sure seems that way to me) In the old days, doing Cagney, Bogart or John Wayne, or Jimmy Stewart was pretty easy, but how do you do George Clooney? or Leonardo De Caprio? or Matt Damon? Anyway, the real stars are dying off and with them a generation with real values and real character. America will miss them more than anyone knows.

Lucky Brett Wins NCAA!!
Yes, Brett knows basketball. It took guts to pick Kansas. Brett wins, Gwen is #2, Nancy H is #3, Obama is #4, Randy is #5 and Zach and Alex S tied for 6th and 7th.  Top SEVEN will win money. Time to reveal who Obama is. Think REAL hard who is the most unlikely person to call themselves Obama, then scroll to the bottom of the page. Yes, there is a real stork, too, but they have not announced yet. Last place has no entry. Obama and The Stork have been identified and you will never guess who they are, but they are legit. Poor Drake, but at least Hulse got his money's worth.  Follow the action by Clicking Here.  IOUs will be sent out shortly, so get those check books ready.
A Wonderful Slide Show
Dale created a real classic. A slide show of pictures of The Folks. You do not want to miss this.  Click Here To View . It is a little long and may take a while to load, but it is beautiful. Thanks Dale!!.........He also gave me many old photos and many will be put up on this web site, indexed by decade, and you will be able to save the ones you want on your computer. Many of these treasures are just priceless. It is great to Honor Thy Father And Thy Mother.
Internet Problems......
Connection issues are so frustrating, but the last month I have had internet just off and on. So if NCAA picks are not forthcoming, hang in there. Mediacom has been to my house three times in three weeks and are coming back again next week. My neighbor is having problems too, but Mediacom keeps looking inside, it is their lines causing the problem, not my computer or modem. (3rd modem this month) Right now, Sunday morning as I type this. No internet....Geeze. In an unrelated situation, the Tryon Bulletin Board is up and running again. We got spammed, which happens to blogs and boards that do not have passwords for people to post. We were not being targeted but there is software that randomly looks for openings to post advertisements....sorry for the inconvenience.
Big Jim H. To Cheer On Drake!!

They stick #1 seed Forest City in the state consolation game to put a fine exclamation point on a fine season. Congrats to Brett and the entire team! Way to go Tigers! Harlan loses the championship game with an unbelievable last second hail Mary shot by Dubuque Wahlert.

Aunt Helen's Obituary In The Carroll Paper....
It was nice seeing everyone at the funeral. The weather really cooperated and it was so special going back to Defiance. The town, the church and the cemetery means so much to all of us. To read the write up in the Carroll Herald, .  Click Here   Thanks to Donna & Bruce for sending the link
More Solemn News.......
Danny's college room mate and high school classmate died in an automobile accident near Mason City on February 23.  He was 46 years old and left a loving wife and two beautiful daughters in mourning. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Brad C. Jamison's family and friends. Tragedies like this remind us all of the fragility of life.
ADM Makes It To State!!
Congrats to Brett, who is the assistant varsity boys basketball coach at ADM as the Tigers defeated Dallas Center-Grimes 74-58 to make it to the state tournament. They will be the #2 seed, behind Forest City and I think they will play next Tuesday. Nice job Brett and Go Tigers!!

Aunt Helen Slips Away......
Very sad news from Florida, I received the following from Jim and Nancy: "Aunt Helen passed away in her sleep, at 2:00 AM this morning. (Friday) A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 1, at the Pauley Funeral Home, in Harlan, Iowa at 10:30AM. Burial will be at the Defiance, Iowa, Union Township Cemetery. A luncheon will be served at the Defiance church located directly across the street from Lucille and Jim's former house. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, that all contributions be donated to your favorite charity. We thank you again for all your letters, emails, prayers and thoughts. Your support has been greatly appreciated."  Jim and Nancy Hulsebus
Solemn News From Florida......
"Aunt Helen had a major stroke Sunday morning. After a six hour visit to the hospital, she was returned to the nursing/rehab center. Today, she experienced paralysis in the left arm, face and throat. Her Living Will precludes feeding aids, so we are hopeful she can regain her swallowing capability and take food orally. Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated in these dire times." Jim and Nancy Hulsebus
International Stars!!
Hey, Guess who is appearing in this month's edition of Bornum, a popular German Military magazine? Why, it is our very own Watsons!! Warren's father, Warren and Brett appear in the April 2007 edition of this German military magazine. Warren's website is becoming internationally known. His pictures and articles have appeared in numerous books and documentaries on WWII. Some of these artifacts he has found himself at the National Archives and others have been sent or donated to him. Check out his site, www.oldhickory30th.com and explore around. It is getting huge and is a very good resource for World War Two buffs. He also sends out a free monthly newsletter to those who sign up. Warren started this project a few years ago to honor his father. Just super!!
Nice Job Randy!!
Last month, Randy spent three days driving farmers too and from uptown Des Moines. The following was posted on their web site. "Karen and Randy drove the same route dozens of times a day for three days.  I rode with them at least 40 - 50 times and they were excellent, helpful, encouraging and willing to do whatever it took to make the experience pleasant. They spoke to each person getting on, answered questions and even gave directions to local sites...when asked. It was an excellent customer service experience...and we told them so.  More than once. I doubt that many will point to this service and think it really made the show.  But, as the company paying for the service and listening to the comments from the attendees I can tell you it mattered. Customer service is like that...no matter if you are driving a bus or selling a product.  Most times it's the little things." OK, you don't believe me? Then go to their web site (Click Here) and read the entire article. Way To Go Randy!!  AND Randy has announced that next week he will be driving THE Wayne Newton around the Midwest on his latest concert tour at Oklahoma City, Chicago and Kansas City in the BIG VIP Bus. Randy will be driving the next 7 days. 5 with Wayne and his entourage.
Dale Has A Great Web Site!!
Most of you know that Dale, one of my protégés, has his own VERY unique web site that he has maintained for the last few years. His membership and popularity is constantly growing. He has Glidden News, Iowa News and he finds some very clever jokes and animations to include. I Know the Glidden alumni really appreciate it.  Click Here to enjoy. Now he does cater to a rather "older" crowd, so check out a typical video that I am sure he will post sooner or later. Click Here for a rather strange video, that might give you a laugh. (Can Dale play the accordion? or is this one of his coffee buddies?)
Update From Florida.......
"Aunt Helen has survived a congenital heart failure, blood clots on the lung and major pneumonia. She is very weak but is being moved to a rehab center to try to gain enough strength to fight the pneumonia and return home. This could be a long process and I will keep you posted on any changes." Jim........As always, our thoughts and prayers are with Aunt Helen and her family.
Super Super Bowl Party At JJ's!!
Everyone who attended had a wonderful time at the Pre-Super Bowl Party on Saturday. Lots of food and fun. The highlight was an old fashioned ping pong tournament, won by an old fashioned senior citizen, Larry! LT dominated match after match. The rest of the field was so weak, that Tanner got second!! It was great to see all of Randy's kids, including some of their friends. Beth drove all the way down from up North and many went shopping for wedding stuff. The Watsons, plus Tyler and his family attended, with little Jordan being a big hit. A great time was had by all, topped off with a good meal at The Top Hat, where we got to see Maxine. Thanks for setting this up and for hosting, Jerry and Jerilyn and what a neat house!! Here are a couple of pictures and double click the arrow for a very short glimpse of the around the world game taken with a digital camera.
From Jim:
"Aunt Helen has regressed some and will not be going to rehab anytime soon. The pneumonia has gotten worse and she has a blood clot on her lungs. She is getting weaker and is considered critical at this time. Many thanks for the get well cards and your continued prayers are appreciated."
Lucille Peterson Turns 93!!
Lucille, mother of Janet, has her 93rd birthday this Saturday. Most of her family will be celebrating this wonderful day, in Ames at Dale and Janet's. Best Wishes to Lucille and have a very, happy Birthday!!
Connie's Father Passes Away....
Connie, wife of Danny, lost her father this week. His name was Jack Kruse, services will be Monday, at 10:30 a.m. in Estherville. Our deepest thoughts and prayers go out to Connie and her family.
Super Bowl Party!! Day BEFORE The Game!!
Let's Party!! Jerry and Jerilyn are hosting a Pre-Super Bowl Party on Saturday, Feb. 2 at their home in Carroll. Email me if you want their address, it is by the golf course, across from where they lived in the 1980s. Try to arrive around 12:30 p.m. Numerous games are being planned with Ping Pong and card games galore. (Hey, it would be great to see Cousin Ron, Scott and June's clan too!) There is talk of a Hold'em Poker tournament and other card games. Iowa, ISU and Drake will probably be on TV. Jerilyn is taking the women to the movies, which starts around 1:00 pm.....Not sure what is showing, but there are 5 to choose from. Snacks will be provided. All are welcome to play and eat what ever they wish. This will be very informal. Rumor is the best Ping Pong player will get a "nifty" shirt that RT donated. Seems it has been worn by numerous people, already.  Rumor  has it that Tanner and Travis are on their way! It would be GREAT seeing them and another rumor has it that Tanner is bringing along someone "special"? Whoa....After working up a good stink, and eating ALL afternoon, reservations have been made at the Top Hat in Glidden for supper at 5:30. Maxine will be there, (maybe Jack & Sandy too) and all are welcome. If you cannot make the games, then eat out with us, beings we missed Christmas, this sounds like a great idea to me. Hope as many as possible can make it.
Very Latest On Helen...
From Jim: "Aunt Helen no longer has detectable internal bleeding and the pneumonia is less severe in her left lung. If she continues to improve, she will be allowed to come home in 2-4 days. As she says, " I'm one tough old duck".
Update On Helen....
From Jim Hulse: "Auntie Helen had a set back and won't be returning home until the doctor can find the source for internal bleeding. A blood transfusion did not raise her hemoglobin level, so the internal bleeding continues. More tests are scheduled for tomorrow morning. Also, her pneumonia has developed into a major case, with fluid on the lungs. Please keep her in your prayers."
Aunt Helen Is Hospitalized......
I got the following email from Cousin Jim: "We put Auntie Helen in the hospital today with a mild case of Pneumonia. She is very weak and has lost weight, so her resistance is low. We are all under the weather but not as bad as Mother. I will keep you posted on her condition. Hopefully it will be a short stay in the hospital." Please keep Helen in your thoughts and prayers.
Wedding Date Set!!
The wedding of Beth and Ryan will be Saturday, July 12th, 2008. The place is Elk Horn and the reception will be in Harlan. This could be the social event of the year, so make plans. Congrats again to Beth, Ryan and all of The Watsons.

Cousin Ron & Pam Are Grandparents, Again!!
Good News!! We get to welcome another new Tryon. Laurie, Ron and Pam's youngest, gave birth to a bouncing baby boy. Say hello to Bryce Colby Dawes. Born today at 7:30 a.m. (Hey, today is Elvis' birthday!) Congrats to Ron and his entire family on this wonderful news. Peg was able to go to the hospital and see her great grandson, too. Wonderful, wonderful.  Click Here For Ron's Posting.
Nancy Sue Wins!!
What a nice birthday present as Dick GRACIOUSLY lets Nancy win the 2007 Bowl Bonanza on her birthday. She had LSU, and after OSU scored the first 10 points, and after watching Hillary cry so emotionally on TV, DBT decided to let the girl win. (what a nice guy) In fact, the women rather dominated our final standings. #1 Nancy, #2 Dickie B, #3 Janet, #4 Donna, #5 Alex Stoneman and Brett. Jersy finished last. Thanks to all for playing and I am sure you all got your money's worth as the standings shuffled around daily. Click Here For Final Results.  IOUs will be sent out shortly.
Congratulations To Beth & Ryan!!
Well, the big day is still being planned, but I was told the wedding would be this summer. Congrats to Beth and Ryan and also Nancy and Warren. What great news!! Sounds like we have another sports fan in the family! All the best from all of the Tryons!!
Two Way Tie In Bowl Bonanza!!
Dick,  and Nancy Sue Watson are tied for the lead! (you kidding me?)  with Alex S, Brett and Janet right behind.  Many more have a shot, yet. It's as close as the Iowa Caucus was suppose to be!  Click Here To See How You Are Doing. Top 5 finish in the money. Last place gets their entry back. Usually someone charges from behind, could it be you?
