Update On Uncle June!! (Courtesy Of Cousin Ron)
"Thanks. Dad didn't get released as planned, maybe Tues - Friday. We are pushing for later than sooner. The morphine kept him sick last week so he couldn't do the therapy as prescribed. He was much better Sunday, not sick at all. I arranged a wheel chair for home and he will have a walker. 6-8 weeks in a cast followed by some therapy should allow him to mow his yard again this summer. He is planning on it." "T"
Undefeated!!
Big Red, the #2 rodeo bucking bull, owned by Johnny and Gwen, throws his cowboy in 4 seconds!! What an athlete!! Go Bulls!! Click Here for a few pictures and very short video. The entire video is only 30 seconds and was filmed by Gwen with her little digital camera. There is no sound. The next rodeo is scheduled for early March and Little Grey, the #1 bull may make his first appearance, but possibly without a human rider. This last rodeo was in Shurburn, Minnesota on Saturday night.
Tryon Christmas 2005
After contacting all members of the immediate family and listening to many good suggestions and ideas, here is what this year's Christmas celebration will look like. (any complaints or small tweaks, email DBT) There may be some small adjustments, so keep checking this web site.
* Arrive at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, December 18th. Bring one hot dish and one cold dish (salad or dessert) but bring plenty. These are Tryons. Also bring your own plates etc. We will eat approximately at 1:30 p.m.
* There will be a short program, beginning 2:15-2:30 range.
* At 3:00 p.m. Santa will arrive. Gifts will be handed out to the kids. Bring gifts for you own kids! No exchanging of names. (Brilliant idea) Last year the children's gifts were $15, but it is up to you. Santa and his helpers will hand out the gifts to the kids. Any gag gifts are encouraged.
* There WILL be a grab bag, but it is optional. Anyone may bring a grab bag item. There will be a men's and women's. Gift item should cost around $10-$15. It is optional, if there is little support for this it will be dropped next year. We are really split on this issue, but why not let those who want to, do it?
* There WILL be a Silent Auction. Items will be put on a table and during the day, people may bid. At approximately, 4:00 p.m. The auction will close. If there are a couple rather large items, we may auction them live. We would like each family to bring ONE very nice item for the auction. It is optional, we had too many small items last year and the auction took too long. We are hoping for a couple of tables, full of nice auctions. (no velvet paintings or calendars of Dale)
* 4:45 p.m. Clean Up....
All times are not set in stone. There will be a donation basket for the church. Randy and others plan on attending the church service that morning, which I think starts at 10:30 a.m.
So here is your checklist:
Bring Plenty of Food and your family's utensils.
Bring Gifts For YOUR kids.
Bring ONE very nice auction item.
Bring Grab Bag items. (optional)
Bring Cash for church, Tryon Office Pool, Auction etc

We are hoping to do the craft thing again this year and some other nice, family surprises. Let's make this another great Tryon Christmas. All are Welcome!
Final Drive Falls Just Short!!
Josh Lamberson (Mandy's friend) NWMS Bearcats lost 21-17 to #1 and 13-0 Grand Valley State in the Division II National Championship Football Game. Nice Job Bearcats!

Diane Densmore Is Home And Doing Well!
Great News! Cousin Diane is home from surgery. She wrote the following:
"My brain aneurysm coiling procedure on Thursday went as planned.  They put a stent in the smaller aneurysm plus another coil.  The larger aneurysm got filled up with another 16 coils, in addition to the 40 that were already there.  (Remember, coils come in all sorts of sizes, but it still seems to me that 56 is a lot.) My recovery went fine without any problems & I came home today (Saturday). Thanks to all of my friends & family for your support & prayers."    Love, Diane

Bearcats Win 25-24 On Last Second TD Pass By Josh!! A bizarre, see saw second half (0-3 halftime score) ends with NWMS heading to the Championship Game next Saturday! And Josh Lamberson was chosen the 2005 Academic All-American player of the year by ESPN (the Magazine)!  What an honor! Click Here To View the official article.

The Tryon Christmas Needs Your Help!
We are looking for suggestions to make our Christmas the special event it has always been. The date is Sunday, December 18th, 1-5 at the Methodist church in Glidden. Our family is unique and our Christmas celebration together has always reflected this. Last year's was just super. Having it in Glidden at the church was perfect. Randy's slide show was unbelievable. Bill handing out the $5 to the little ones was priceless. Food and good spirit was plentiful. The auction was great, but got a little long. So how do we make it better? Click Here To Send Suggestions. I will contact the brothers and sisters, but ALL are welcome to make suggestions. Shelly came up with a great idea already. She bought gifts for her kids and Santa passed them out. This will eliminate the need for a name drawing and who knows better what each child might like? Julie says it will eliminate a big hassle. BRILLIANT! Any other suggestions? The big suggestion last year was more time for visiting. Sounds great, but we really do not want people to eat and go. It's just great seeing so many that we do not see so much during the year. So make the suggestions now (Click Here) and next week I will inform people of the details and time schedule. (Volunteers may be needed) Merry Christmas from all of the Tryons

Diane Densmore To Have Major Surgery
Cousin Diane is having her 3rd operation on her brain. Nov. 21, last Monday, she was informed that they must clear out her coils again. The operation will take place in Iowa City. Your thoughts and prayers are encouraged. She has to lay flat for 6 hours after the operation. She has had aneurysms. The operation will be on Thursday, Dec. 1. 24 hours in the recovery room and hopefully home on Saturday. She sends her love to all of us......

New Family Members!
Welcome to Big Red and Little Gray (maybe Comanche Sky) 2 Brahma bulls recently purchased by Gwen and Johnny. Johnny, who rides bulls, is now going into the stock business. Barb's brother in law Buzz has offered to "host" the bulls. Johnny has built an elaborate pen and trains the bulls daily. The little gray has a chance to be super. They were purchased in Texas. For the next year or two they will be entered in futurities. Bucking contests for young bulls. After a year or two of this, they will have real cowboys try to ride them. The bulls earn money just like the riders. If they are good, they can earn very large sums. Johnny has plans to quit riding and instead enter and train bulls. Anyone want a very interesting investment? Kind of like race horses, if they do well, they are used as studs and they try to improve the line. The little gray has a champion pedigree.

Finding The Hot Spot
Well, my cub reporters have informed me that last weekend, Donna and Bruce spent considerable time driving around Carroll County looking for the "hot spot", last weekend...... Donna was really excited, when Bruce asked for help in finding it. They drove everywhere in Carroll County. Out by Swan Lake, near the old railroad underpass, old farm houses, the old lane near Storm Creek, Donna knew them all...You could almost hear Pat Boone on the radio......Innocent Donna?......Bruce was startled.....did he not know he was with a legend of the early sixties? Their 40th wedding anniversary is near, how romantic and you know how Donna is when she has romance on the mind........(You know, this is the couple that ended up in a motel near Correctionville? for their honeymoon) That Donna....they would have probably gone to the HWY 20 Hillside Motel, but I think it was torn down during the Nixon administration.... The hot spots that Donna knew have sure changed.....Oh, well.....it is kind of hard on those memories of short shorts days....Bruce said he was looking for a place to run his lap top from anyway...Shucks......Does this make Donna a Desperate Housewife?

Moving Day A Big Success!!
Thanks to all for helping Maxine and her family in their big move back to Glidden. We had plenty of help and it went pretty smooth. (until Grandpa Gaylord dropped a box) I am sure there are a few more scratches if a person looks closely, but it was pretty cheap help. It was great seeing so many and it is always great to come back to Glidden! Such wonderful memories. Click Here For Slide Show, photos by DBT and Gaylord. It was a wonderful morning, thanks again. What A Treat! No Doubt About It!!
Great news from the world of sports. Randy's ADM Fighting Tigers sweep DC-G 3-0 at Johnston to earn a trip to the State Volleyball Tournament in Cedar Rapids, next week. Many family members were there to cheer on the Tigers, including quite a group from NWMS, plus Darrell and Marjorie. It has been a dream season for RT as they dominated conference play too. The match was very even, with the third game going 27-25. It was very exciting. Way to go!! Good Luck At State!!! (Nice surprise by Jerry as state T-shirts were given out to the winners!) Go Tigers Go!!

Bruce's Mother Is Back Home!
"Bruce's mom, Jeanette, got home yesterday, just 5 weeks after her heart surgery and stroke. Her heart surgeon doesn't need to see her for a year-so that part went well! She will be doing regular physical therapy, for her left side, which still isn't moving much. She can walk a little with a walker, but someone has to hold her left hand on it, as it has no strength-and her left leg/foot doesn't want to bend/move...but she's home! She's happy about that! Thank you for all of you that sent her cards! We really appreciated all of the support, and we will NOT miss the regular trips to Omaha! Now we'll have regular trips to Carroll, as she'll need 24 hour care, but her sister is with her this week--and we're hoping to see some good improvement soon!" Donna

Hurricane Wilma Will Head To Florida!
The Latest From Jim:

"Last report reflects a path directly over our area or just south of us. No estimate on the strength, category 2,3or 4. All of these will cause major damage to this area, if it hits us direct. If it hits south of us we will experience winds of 75 to 100 mph which will also cause significant damage. Anyone have a spare room for 3 displaced Floridians? Ha!  Florida Clan." Weather experts are predicting a big turn for the hurricane that is now in Mexico's Yucatan peninsula. They are not sure where, how big or how fast Wilma is suppose to hit. Our Florida clan lives south of Tampa Bay and if the storm comes in from the Gulf side, it is not good. I got the following from Cousin Jim: "HERE WE GO, ONE MORE TIME! WILMA MAY BE THE WORST YET FOR THE TAMPA BAY AREA. A CATEGORY 5 WITH 175 MPH WINDS, BUT PROJECTED TO REDUCE TO A 2 OR 3 BY THE TIME IT HITS FLORIDA. EITHER WAY, IF IT HITS US DIRECT, IT WOULD DESTROY OUR CONDO WHICH IS ON THE BEACH. PREDICTIONS ON IT'S PATH ARE VERY DIFFICULT.  THIS HURRICANE IS LIKE NO OTHER AND THE WEATHERMEN ARE TOTALLY IN THE DARK AS TO IT'S DIRECTION OR INTENSITY. IF IT COMES OUR WAY, WE WILL AGAIN BE REQUIRED TO EVACUATE TO AUNT HELEN'S APARTMENT. I HOPE THIS IS THE LAST TIME I HAVE TO ADVISE YOU ALL OF THESE DARN HURRICANES. YOUR PRAYS ARE APPRECIATED." FLORIDA CLAN As always, our thoughts and prayers go out to our friends and relatives in harm's way.

NWMS Homecoming Is This Weekend!!

"I went to Maryville last night and picked up Travis then headed to St. Joseph, MO to see the Bearcats play VB.  Mandy's team won 3-0 and she played lights out ....hitting at .417 efficiency.  She has started in 13 straight matches and is having a great senior year- 47 blocks and 126 kills so far!  Josh Lamberson is in the semi-finals for a national NCAA award for the 2005 Draddy Trophy- which is considered the "Academic" Heisman for college football's most prestigious academic honor!  This award goes to one player in NCAA in all divisions 1-A, 1-AA, II, III, & NAIA and he is a semi-finalist!!!.  Wow- neat to be nationally recognized!!!! " RT Way to go Josh, and Go Bearcats!!

His blood count is 5000--scarey! They put him in the hosp. yesterday am--iv's to help the dehydration. Keep him in your thoughts/prayers, please! The Latest News On Jeanette
"Bruce's mom did have her aortic valve replaced last Wed., Aug. 21st. She was in the ICU for a week and is now in a regular room. Either today or on Monday, she will be moved to the Immanuel Rehab Center, 6901 N. 72nd St., in Omaha, as she has had a stroke (either during the surgery or right after it?) She cannot move her left side--each day we think we are seeing a little improvement--like sliding her hand and pushing on her left leg some. This will be a slow rehab-she's be there for 2-3 weeks and then need rehab, hopefully in Carroll, as she's quite homesick, too. She is very alert and mentally, is fine! The nurses all love her friendliness! Please keep her in your prayers, and send her a card!? Thanks!" Donna
Rocky Mountain High! Spending Time With Grand Kids!
Cousin Jimmy had some fun with his two twin grand kids. The cowboys were out looking for eagles and probably some mischief. Thanks for the pictures, they are great! Anyone else?

The Rays, coached by Big Jim Hulsebus won the 2005 Tryon Fantasy Baseball League by whipping the (3 time champion) Nevada Fat Boys 269-172, in the 2005 Tryon Baseball League World Series... OUCH...It will be the second championship banner that the old coach has won and I am sure it will fly high and proud through those Florida hurricanes! Thanks to all for playing, it was a fun season.

Mandy's Team To Play In Boone, Monday Night!!
Mandy's NWMS volleyball team will play against Upper Iowa in Boone, Monday night at the high school gymnasium. Starting time is 7:30 p.m. Larry and Jan have invited all to enjoy maid-rites at their place for a pre-game meal. "We will have maidrites anytime after 5:30 on Monday (Sept. 26) for anyone who wants to stop on their way to Mandy's game. (Bearcats vs Upper Iowa at Boone High School at 7:30 if our information is correct) Hope to see you Monday." Larry and Jan. Hope to see many at the match. Tanner Is Riding Out The Hurricane!
As Houston is evacuating, not Tanner. (Sap Of The Month?) We all wish him the best. Here is what Randy emailed me. "Tanner is living in Houston, as we all know, and his LA Fitness has been closed until Monday.  Houston is gearing for Hurricane Rita and maybe will miss the main effect!?!?  His fancy apartment complex has been evacuated, but Tanner and 5 other tenants stayed.  Tanner tried to get canned food, drinks, etc, but all of the area businesses were sold out of this survival stuff!  He filled up his bath tub to have water available down the road if Houston has after problems and shut downs.  Tanner has no battery operated radio....all high tech stuff.  HIS NEXT SEVERAL WEEKS SHOULD BE QUITE A LIFE EXPERIENCE! Good Luck Tanner.......ride the waves!"
Bruce's Mother Has Operation On Wednesday!
Jeanette Stevens, has a major operation in Omaha on Wednesday. They are replacing a valve in her heart. Our thoughts and prayers are needed for Bruce, Donna and their families. Here is the email I received from Grand Daughter Julie:
"Hey Dickie...can you ask for prayers again for Grma.  She has pre-op check ups today in Omaha and then will have her surgery early in the AM.  Mom and Dad will be back and forth but prayers for Grandpa, Dee and them would also be helpful.  She'll be getting her aortic valve replaced with a cow's...she's claiming that she'll be mooing soon.  Thanks."

The Latest Of The Latest:
ANOTHER ONE MISSED THE FLORIDA CLAN!
Katrina is now going due west and is headed to Biloxi/Mobile area. It is now category 3 (115-135 mph) and predicted to be a category 4 (136-165 mph) when it hits land. WOW!
We won't escape the hurricane completely with 2-4ft flooding expected from the backside winds and high tide. Miami was hit harder than expected and has major flooding and $2 Billion damage. They received 12-16 inches of rain in a very short period of time, thus major flooding with 6 deaths due to trees falling on people and cars. Our insurance rates are going to be out of sight. UGH.
Our prayers go out to those who will get the brunt of this huge, dangerous hurricane. Florida Clan
The News From Jim In Florida
"The "eye" of the hurricane went right over son, Steve's condo in Hollywood, Fla. Winds were up to 105 MPH. He lost several trees and over 1.3 million lost electricity. It turned south after hitting land and is now going straight west which should miss us in Madeira Beach IF it continues west and then north.
We are on the "bad" side of the hurricane, so we will get much rain and high winds. It did not lose much of it's intensity so should continue to grow as it moves over the gulf. It could be a real big hurricane by the time it hits north Florida. The water in the gulf is 92 degrees which is ideal for increasing the hurricane's strength. We are praying that it continues west and misses the Tampa/Madeira Beach area."

Tryons Declared First Family Of Iowa HS Boys Sports!! Chuck Offenburger, The Iowa Boy and probably the most admired and respected journalist in DM Register history has written a book about High School Athletics in Iowa. The Tryons are declared the First Family Of Iowa Boys Sports, Wow! Now, Donna gets a personalized visit!! (Chuck did send a wonderful email to Dale, praising tryons.com a while back, what an honor for this little old website!, it's like Frank Sinatra saying...."Nice voice!") You can order the book from the Iowa High School Athletic website or soon from Chuck's wonderful website, http://offenburger.com. The book just came out and sold well at the State Fair. There is a chapter on famous families and we are prominently displayed and declared the First Family Of Iowa Sports. Here is the email I received from Donna: "Ok--guess who's coming to coffee on Friday??? Chuck Offenburger--the writer, columnist, author!! He wrote The book "Bernie Saggau & the Iowa Boys: The Centennial History of the Iowa High School Athletic Association" is indeed available now, about $20 soft cover, $35 hardbound. Chuck wrote, "The Tryons, hailing from Glidden, are named the first family of Iowa high school boys' sports for the past 100 years, in Chapter 5. It's a fun story. Or, if you don't want to order off the 'Net, I've got a meeting Thursday and
Friday in Storm Lake, so I'll be coming right through Lake View, and I carry
a bunch of the soft covers with me. It'd be easiest for me to stop Friday on
my way back to our farm south of Jefferson. It'd probably be mid-afternoon. I won't plan on stopping in Lake View unless you tell me to.
Thanks...Chuck O."
FUNNY?!!?!! I wrote back and he's coming for coffee!!! :) do you want me to get you a copy, too? I'm hoping he'll autograph it/them---that may be a great gift for brett, too? let me know soon!!! now, i need to decide what to serve with the coffee---coffee cake? pie?  sis--what will i be up to next???!!!!"

Ouch! Another Florida Hurricane!!
I got the following email from Jim and the Florida Clan, our thoughts and prayers go out to them.
"HERE WE GO AGAIN!!!
Tropical storm Katrina soon to be Hurricane Katrina is currently projected to go directly over our condo. This is really poor timing because we are just now replacing the 20 carports that were destroyed last year. UGH. I hope it crosses the state in a hurry, before they complete construction. I sure don't want to pay to replace them twice. (No insurance coverage is provided for carports due to the large number of storms in this area)  Unfortuantly, Katrina is forecasted to take a slow, leisurely stroll across the state with much, much rain predicted. (20 inches minimum forecasted at last newscast) I will keep y'all updated thru the home page. Florida Clan."

Lots Of Email, From Our Cousins
It's been great receiving so many emails from the Densmores, who enjoyed the story and pictures of Don's funeral. Nice messages from Darlene's daughter, Elaine's two daughters and Elaine, plus others. When Elaine sent her email, she added the following story to share:
"You know, Don's mom Hattie was very ill, and she knew she was going to die, and didn't want to leave Don because he was having seizures (he had been in a car wreck with Uncle Milton and he was in the car when it rolled, he was probably 5 or 6 years then)  anyhow my Dad Forrest promised his Mom, he would take Don to raise.  When Don came to live with us, (around age 9 or 10) my Dad (Forrest) took him to a Chiropractor for a treatment and Don had a bone out of place in his neck, one treatment and that's all it took, Don never had another seizure.  Back in those days (the depression) my Dad took 2 chickens and gave them to the Dr to pay the bill, back in those days the Drs. took anything for pay.
Thanks to Diane Densmore for all you did to get the message out.  You can't believe  how that helped us out..  Love all my cousins... " Elaine Densmore Smith

What A Beautiful Day........
Monday, July 25th, a beautiful, bright, sunny, steamy day in Dunlap, Iowa. Uncle Don was laid to rest. It was quite a tribute to a very unique guy. I was so impressed with all of the affection paid to Don by neighbors, friends, community and family. It was the kind of day that is hard to forget. I always liked Don, just like everyone else did. He was so unique, a pure Midwestern farmer. A true rugged individual who lived life his way. The service was planned beautifully, simple and so fitting. I saw corn stalks inside a church. Bales of hay and wild flowers too. The minister knew, and liked Don a lot and was very touched by his passing. He did a wonderful job, so personal and so authentic. The music was special, with a great over flow crowd in a precious old church. I was so taken with Dunlap and the community with it's pure, time tested Midwestern values. The kind of values that get attacked sometimes today as old fashioned or outdated. Some of us drove out to see Don's place. Such a pleasant drive with the rich rolling hills, nice looking crops, so peaceful and serene. I had not been there since I was a boy and it was like a time warp....I was ten years old again and his dog was barking at me. I kept looking for C.L. to walk around one of the sheds. It was a beautiful day in small town Iowa and a beautiful way to say goodbye. Makes me pretty darn proud I grew up in a small Iowa town and my Dad was an Iowa farmer, too........ I took a few pictures, Click Here For The Slide Show.
This was the obituary written for the service:
Donald Eugene Densmore was born June 15,1922 to George & Hattie (Miller) Densmore in Defiance, Iowa. Don was one of a kind. Everyone in town as well as his relatives referred to him as Big Daddy. He was strong as an ox and he had a heart of gold. Big Daddy was always willing to help out his neighbors and friends. If Don liked you, chances are he had a nick name for you.
He was often spotted driving into town for coffee and a bull session in his signature overalls, sometimes with his canine companion riding shotgun. But his happiest days were spent on the farm. Anyone trying to convince him to treat himself to a trip or a vacation would have met resistance. He didn't like to get too far from home. At his age one of his worries had been the prospect of declining health making it necessary to leave the farm someday. We can take comfort in the fact that Big Daddy got his wish and was able to work on his farm up to his last day on this earth.
Don died Monday July 18, 2005 at his home near Dunlap, at the age of 83 years, one month and 12 days. Don was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, five brothers, and five nephews. He was survived by nieces and nephews, Eunabelle, Elaine, Marjorie, Darlene, Darrell, Dale, Gaylord, Larry, Jerry, Donna, Dick, Randy, Nancy, Carol Dean, Denny, Diane, Pat, Elton, Karen and Jeff.

Alexis Is Enjoying The Summer, Are You?

Very Sad News, Don Densmore Passes Away.....
I got the following email from Diane Densmore:
Once again, I find myself the deliverer of sad news.  What's the old saying -- bad things happen in 3's?  We lost our cousin Terry, then cousin Bill,  & now we've lost our Uncle Don. I just received a call from Darlene & Elaine about 5 pm this Wed. to tell me this news. His neighbors saw him on Monday. He always goes to morning coffee in town, but wasn't there for 2 days. So Darlene's husband Charles/Chuck & another friend went out to the farm house (This must have been earlier today). Don had a really mean dog who wouldn't let them anywhere near the door, but they were able to walk around & look through the bedroom window to see his foot & that he was still in bed. So then Chuck had to go get his gun & unfortunately had to shoot the dog so that they could get in the house.  But the indications were that he must have died in his sleep. Services are pending.  Uncle Don has been cremated. I always thought he'd be buried in his overalls & flannel shirt.  I'll let you know when I hear more from Darlene & Elaine (Elaine is at Darlene's house).  They were sort of talking about possibly Monday. & of course, please pass this on to anyone else in the family who needs to know & whom I don't have an email address for.    Diane

Uncle Don's services will be:
Monday 10:30 am at the Congregational Church in Dunlap  (1 block off of main street)
Lunch will be served afterwards. If you'd rather make a donation instead of sending flowers,  Darlene suggested the Dunlap Fire & Rescue or there is also a town fundraising project going on in Dunlap to build a Wellness Center.  I'm sure Darlene would be happy to deliver any donations for us.
Donald Eugene Densmore was born June 15, 1922.
Warren Has Hip Replacement Surgery!!
I just got a call from Warren. (5:00 pm) He sounded unbelievably good, not groggy at all. The operation is over but they DID NOT do both hips, which they had planned on doing. So he gets to do this again in 3 months. Nancy, Brett, Beth (and boyfriend?) were in attendance. WW is at Mercy hospital in Council Bluffs, but does not plan on being there very long. Good Luck Warren!

"We are very, very proud of Kevin for this accomplishment and are looking forward to the graduation ceremony." GT   Did you know Kevin has tryons.com as his Home Page? Do you? If you want to be informed ASAP of the family news you had better!

More the merrier!!

Tanner Accepts New Job!!
Tanner got a HUGE promotion......he will be the new manager at a LA Fitness in Houston, Texas.  Tanner had a district meeting last week with the big brass and was told of him being selected as Atlanta's top dog and the need for him to transfer to Houston and start up a new fitness center there.  He now has great benefits, plus a super dooper salary to start with the expectation to increase dramatically.  Boy....how times have changed!!!!!!!!!  Just a few years ago, Tanner was at DMACC in Ankeny.....living in an apartment, working at Pizza Hut! He starts his new job August 9th in Texas.

Best Wishes To Josh And Heidi!!
We left a little early, but it was great seeing the newlyweds and Jeff and Jodie. (see photo) It was also great to see Kevin and his kids, they sure are growing. GT and Sandy say thanks as Doug, Jodie, The Watsons, LT and Jan, and DBT and Barb represented the Tryons. More may have come later, but Best Wishes Josh and Heidi!!

The Latest From Florida!!
Hurricane Dennis missed us by 100 miles but still pounded and will pound us for the next 24 hrs. with high winds, rain and 10ft waves. We have received winds up to 75 MPH, 5 inches of rain and a near miss tornado. No major damage so far. We may have minor flooding in the carport area as high tide could lead to some flooding of our complex. We are going to leave the area this morning for a few hours. We will visit Auntie Helen in the hospital and then stay at her place until any flooding subsides. Auntie Helen is recovering fine from her latest scare. She had extreme high blood pressure but she got to the hospital before she had a heart attack. Thank God. She is continuing to under go testing in the hospital to find out why she had Low Blood Pressure and fell on July 3 and then have High Blood Pressure 4 days later. Her only problem at this point is to recover from all of her bumps and bruises received in her fall. I will keep you posted on any change in her condition. Florida Clan.
Major News From Florida!!
"Auntie Helen fell during the night of July 3, after blacking out in the bathroom. She sustained only cuts and bruises while experiencing severe low blood pressure. All tests at the hospital were positive, so she returned home the next morning. On Friday July 8, she had another incident at 4:00 a.m. and went to the hospital again. This time, she had severe high blood pressure. She is currently in the Largo Medical Hospital ongoing extensive tests. The hospital is only 2 blocks from her apartment, so they think they prevented any major damage to her heart.  She is totally alert with no apparent impact on her health. At 93, I guess we can expect more of these incidents. Her response on the first hospital visit, was..."see, I knew I couldn't go to the Tryon Reunion this year". I guess she had ESP. Please include Aunt Helen in your prayers. Florida Clan."
HERE WE GO AGAIN!
"Hurricane Dennis is now a major category 4 storm (winds of 145 MPH) and tracking toward the Florida Panhandle. We are in the storm cone and expect winds up to 100 MPH. If it changes direction like the first hurricane last year, we could get the full brunt of it. We will be evacuating to Aunt Helen's apartment on Saturday evening if the storm stays on it's present course. They expect a storm surge of 6-8ft. and our parking lot is only 4ft above sea level. If it moves toward us, it will be much more severe and a direct hit will probably destroy most of our complex. Please pray for the best and send it north. If you need to get in touch with us, DBT has our phone numbers. Isn't it great living in the land of paradise? Phooey! Florida Clan."

Slide Show Of July 4th Is Up!!
It really was a great time. Fun to see the little kids playing, it was great to visit with Diane Densmore, got to see all of JJ's clan, including Lynn and it is always fun to talk to the elders, who usually stay on the porch, see photo. Great Time On The Fourth!! Super thanks to Donna and Bruce for hosting another special Tryon get-together. Another very large turnout with lots and lots of kids, of all ages. July Fourth @ The Lake!! Everyone Is Welcome!! Since 1976, Donna and Bruce have so graciously invited all to enjoy the summer sun by their lakeside cabin. We had a huge turnout last year and hope for even more this year. It is a great celebration of family. The Florida Clan (Hulsebus bunch) sends their best wishes, but will not be able to attend. I know we all will miss visiting with Aunt Helen, Jim and Nancy, but at least we got to see them last year. There will be a shower for Kristy and Tyler and it will start at 3:00 pm inside Donna's house, men are on their own. It should be another great time. Bring lots of food, drink and dishes. A kiddie pool is always filled with water, there will be lots of great food, tall tales and fun card games. Be there by NOON... Click Here for the Slide Show of last year and Click Here for the "immortal" story of Aqua Man.....See you all on the 4th of July!! (Our superhero/evil villain Aqua Man has slowed down a little since last year, so the little people may be safe)

At least we think it will be Doug, but it might be an exact double, planted by the Chi-Coms to infiltrate our National Defenses, be prepared to ask questions to verify his identity. Like "Who was Babe Ruth? or Jack Trice?" or "What are the school colors of the University of Iowa?", things a "Clone" would not know.)

Very Nice Article On Jerry's Retirement
The Carroll Herald had a wonderful article on Jerry's retirement from the Ar-We-Va school system. I scanned it, but it was a little large. I think you can read most of it. It is a PDF file format. Just Click Here and enjoy. Congrats to Jerry and all of the "lucky" retirees.

Remember Isaac Jenkins? He taught vocal music at little old Glidden in the mid 1960s. Remember the flap when little old GHS hired a black man? Clarence Tryon, President of the school board took a lot of heat for this, but what a choice. Everyone ended up loving and respecting Mr. J. One of my greatest teachers, ever, even though he kicked me out of class on the FIRST day. (goofing around, can you believe it?) One time, he and I wrestled on the PE mats, GHS had no wrestling and he was a champion collegiate wrestler, as well as an accomplished flute player. He is also the guy who informed us when JFK was assassinated. We were standing in line and he came up and said, "The President has been shot." I responded with, "What President?" (I was kind of stupid in those days) He sang at Donna and Bruce's wedding. Well, Donna found his school's website on the web and it looks like this guy has been super successful. Click Here to explore his jazz group's web page. I would say C.L. can really pick them, and this was the 1960s with the Civil Rights mess, riots and violence and here is Clarence Lee Tryon stepping up, makes me pretty darn proud! Donna received an email reply from Mr. Jenkins and he said he loved his time in Glidden and would like to hear from others. Here is his email. mrjenkins@dpjazz.org

Congratulations Marjorie and Darrell on your 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration!!

Hope to see you on the 5th!   Randy and Marjean

Today Is Mom And Dad's 75th Wedding Anniversary, God Bless Them!! Clarence Tryon and Dorothy Densmore were married in the Preacher's house in little old Defiance, Iowa, 75 years ago, today. Just think of all of the lives that were affected because these two very young people decided to get married. It is quite a love story, but rather than tell it to you, let's have Mom and Dad tell it themselves. Click Here For This VERY Special Presentation. (8 minute audio, recorded in 1994) They are driving down the road in Dale's car, so the audio is not the best, but it is so great to hear their voices again. (this was made possible by the creative genius and his wonderful niece Jodie, thanks so very much for your foresight, Jodie!) Bless Be The Tie That Binds.........

Bruce Turns The Big 6-0 Today (Saturday)

Beth To Throw Her Hat In The Ring?
Beth's 2 Time National Champion Morningside Mustang team was invited to the Iowa State Capital this week. A member of the team was asked to address the Iowa Senate. Beth was chosen and she spoke to the Senators from the floor of the legislature. At the end of her message, she asked for their support, as she was planning on running for President of The United States in 2034!! It brought the house down. Afterwards, one of the Senators came up to her and gave her $10 for her campaign. (probably part of my tax money) WAY TO GO BETHIE!! Then, this weekend, her team led the circus parade in Sioux City and as you can see, our Beth was riding tall!! She MUST be a Republican and would get my vote in a second. Music by DBT, one of my favorites so crank up those speakers! and Just for fun, here is Last Year's Slide Show, a blast from the past. Did the DM Register even mentions these girls? Do they realize that almost all are from Iowa? Is Sioux City still part of Iowa or has the city moved to escape the high taxes too? I bet they sure would have better coverage if it was Grand View or Simpson, you know the "old" DM Register would have.

Time For A Long Nap!! Jerry Resigns At Ar-We-Va!! He has officially retired as a public educator. A journey that started in Pomeroy, then to Ballard, Alta, Jefferson and finally to Ar-We-Va has come to an end. Many awards, friends and laughs along the way. Jerry plans on helping Big John at The Graphic Edge, so he is not 100% retired, just ending up a long and very distinguished career in education and athletics. JJ is a member of the Iowa Football Coach's Hall Of Fame and the Iowa Track Coach's Hall Of Fame. I had the joy of spending a month with Jerry, 1971, following him around every day at Alta, as part of my interim. Following Jerry around was no easy task as he was usually where he was not suppose to be, a technique that I have tried to duplicate. The one thing about Jerry in the classroom or in the gym, was he always tried to have fun, and to not take things too seriously, another trait I try to do. His time at Jefferson with my buddy Weaver were classics and among my most treasured memories. He started the Jefferson Football Clinic, where I got to meet some legendary people. Those were great times, a hearty Good Luck to the new "civilian".

Terry Densmore Passed Away Friday (2/25)
I received the following email from Cousin Diane:
Cousin Terry passed away this afternoon.

"I was out of town today, but spoke to his daughter Tracy this afternoon.  She & Carol Dean had a tough decision to make.  They discontinued all IV's and he slipped away peacefully. Tracy said that he will be cremated and she will be in contact about whatever services they might plan."  Diane
and the following from Dale (photo by Dale, taken at last Spring's Densmore reunion)
"You remember, that Terry was the starting Quarterback on my first years team at Audubon in 1964.  I always liked Terry,  he was a hard worker, very dedicated to being an outstanding football player, and was well-liked by everyone on the team.  I was proud to be his coach and his cousin, but we never let others know that we were cousins, as we thought it might create some problems with some of the personnel on our team.  During his High School days, he always seemed to have a smile on his face.  I will miss Terry a lot."  Dale
Our thoughts, prayers and deepest sypathies go out to all of Terry's friends and family.
Finally, WSC Wins A Close One!!
Brett scores 19 as Wayne State wins 81-80 over Concordia, St. Paul. Brett is ranked among the leaders in the conference in 9 out of the 10 categories! There is talk of Player Of The Year, but that would be a long shot as WSC is currently in 4th place. (they have lost 6 games by 2 points or less) They play a tough Winona State tonight at Wayne.
Beth Sparks Morningside!!
In a 4-2 game, she comes off of the bench and goes 6-6 from three point land!! Ends the night with 20 points. Click Here for her interview in the Sioux City Journal!! Mustangs rip Randy's old school (Dana) 98-33, Wow, Go Bethie!!

American Education Sinks To New Low!!
Despite President Bush's No Child Left Behind Act, Governor Vilsack's emphasis on improving the quality of education, more money and more teacher training, the state of our public schools continues to deteriorate. The quality of instruction and especially instructors continues to spiral downward. People were shocked and in disbelief when they saw one Iowa school system hit a new low Friday with the following, disturbing incident!! Click Here For Full Details.

Suzie, Jim Tryon And Families Watch The Mustangs Run!! Suzie and her family watched the Number One team in the nation win 82-55. It sure is great of them to attend. (cost was NOT cheap, I am sure) and great to see pictures of her growing children. The boys are Jonathon and Sam and the girls are Charissa and Christina (pig tails). What a beautiful family! Jimmy Tryon attended both games in Denver. He probably slept thru the 120-44 game on Saturday night. He brought his two grand kids to root and cheer on the Morningside Mustangs. It was real special of Suzie and Jim to come out on such a cold night. Beth scored 7 on Friday and 8 on Saturday in very limited play, because of the blowouts. Pictures below are by Beth, they are of Suzie and her family. As always, click on photos to enlarge.

A Tryon Salute.......
To the extraordinary personalities we lost in 2004. Not only did we lose some precious family members in 2004, but so did the world. These famous, rugged individuals really bring back some fond memories. Isn't it great that we live in an America that has the freedom that allows ordinary people the opportunity to do extraordinary things. Click Here For The Slide Show. Marjean Wins Tricky Dick's Bowl Bonanza!!
The games were fun and exciting and went down to the last one. Marjean picked USC and DBT picked Oklahoma, Marjean had the best tie breaker. So DBT finished second and Travis nosed out Warren and Donna for third. Just 2 games separated the top 12 pickers. Thanks to all for playing, it was a lot of fun. Marjean is following in the footsteps of former champion Emily....Women rule! Prize money is $72, $36, $12 (minus the entry fees). Way to go Marjean!! Click Here To View The Complete Standings!

Eric's River Dogs Win Tryon Football Championship!!
Eric coached his fantasy football team to their 2nd TFL title as the River Dogs knocked around the game, Lake View Waves in the 2004 Tryon Super Bowl. (that's banner #2!) Tim won the consolation game against DBT and Todd won the loser's bracket. Great fun, it was a wild season. Lots of injuries and bad luck for all. Eric did a great job of building his team after a poor draft. The Waves were hurt when Michael Vick decided not to play the last two weeks. Has anyone seen Terrell Owens, either? Tons of Fun. Better start planning for next year's draft.

Randy's Family Has Great Time @ Bowl Game!!
"We had a blast down south supporting the Hawks!  Attached are several pictures. My family and I brought in the new year celebrating at a sports bar with nobody but Hawk fans! We drove our car down all decorated up with Hawk signs.  Got fingered only once in 2000 miles!  Travis got his air horn gobbled up by the cops during the game! They do not allow air horns in the stadium.....it took all of the game except 1 minute to go for their security to figure out what kid was blasting the horn!
Got to hear beautiful violin music played from the balcony one morning.  Some prodigy child was playing/practicing on his violin and even played Red Wing!!!!  Take care, RT
