Wonderful Christmas @ Ames!!
The
Annual Tryon Christmas was another rousing success and a very
special thanks to Dale and Janet for hosting the mob. Great fun for
all. Those that could not attend were missed, but kept in our
thoughts and prayers. Many highlights, pictures and stories on the
day. A few examples:
*Kids everywhere and real cuties, so much fun to watch the little
kids grow, play together and whine for attention? Name tags next
year?
* The Tryon Auction was a super success. Thanks to all for
contributing items, money and entertainment.
*Tanner bought the velvet painting for the third year in a row.
*Bill (not present) ended up buying a Lawrence Welk Christmas Video
and a Jack Kemp for president football, for $25!!!!
The tape was home made and the football was a nerf ball. People
cussed DBT for bidding so high for poor Bill, but they did not
realize that Bill sent the money and said to buy the two worst items
there, so laugh hearty!!
*Barb's arm is sore from bidding so much, Dick just kept writing the
checks. Darn family just kept encouraging her!!
*The food was absolutely fabulous, complete with prune cake, super
potatoes and great salads and desserts. Some were seen going back
again and again. (WW?)
*Travis won the pool skill competition and we had a Calcutta, with
half the proceeds going to the auction fund. Barb bought Travvy for
$11, but she also bought DBT for $40 (he came close)
*Dale was a little grumpy, some think it was his medicine, but it
was probably the Iowa State jokes and their Humanitarian Bowl
invitation. Does the United Nations put that one on? Compared
with THE Orange Bowl vs the Heismann trophy winner!! Dale kept
showing Tanner his 5 fingers, not sure what that means, but Tanner
would squeal like Floyd of Rosedale. Dale did
get his garage cleaned out though, he kept going out there during
the auction, bringing in tennis rackets, motor oil, golf balls (red
stripes around them) kid toys etc.
The garage looked real nice by the end of the day!!
*Deb from Ohio sent some very nice embroidered items.
*Ornery
Randy put a "mystery" suitcase (metal) in the Tryon grab bag with a
$5 bill taped to it and the instructions that it
was not to be
opened until the very end. LT got it in the "take away" and it was a
car repair kit. ($4.95) at Sam's club?
*Warren lost a $25 gift certificate from Amazon when someone took it
and he replaced it with a roll of duct tape..........nice choice?
*But the highlight of the moment was probably Nancy offering to try
on Hattie's (Grandmother) night gown in front of everyone. (for money of course)
EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE shouted out contributions, but Sissy
chickened out, said her husband won't let her. (I think people were
afraid the police may be called in by the neighbors)
A great time for all and I am sure the Folks are very proud. Slide
Show pictures to follow shortly. |

Happy
Birthday Randy (50) Donnie (40) and Jodie (??), plus Kristina and
Aaron!! Congrats!
Never thought I would see the day
when a Tryon Brother (Nancy, no problem) would be DANCING? on the
stage of the Funny Bone comedy club. Yes, where's the paper sack?
the rhythm of a Tryon boy dancing and prancing to reggae music! What
an embarrassment to the white race. Geeze, almost as bad as
when I saw Jerry up at the Funny Barn trying to do an Ed McMahon
impersonation. Words cannot describe the mating dance that Randy
performed, so ask WW, Little Sis, Big Sis, Bruce, DBT, Barb, Marjean
and most of Des Moines the next time you see them. Unbelievable. |

Stephen
Ambrose (DBT's favorite historian) Dies.
Sitting in the sun of the Red Wing War College, enjoying one of his books, is the ultimate relaxation for me. Well,
today I was stunned to hear this author died, so suddenly, at age
66. I first discovered Ambrose about 10 years ago, during an
interview on C-SPAN. He was talking so enthusiastically about
Eisenhower. I have since read his accounts of D-Day, the end of
WWII, the Transcontinental Railroad, Lewis and Clark etc. I use his
digest called Eyewitness To America, a collection of first person
accounts, in my history class very frequently. I especially enjoyed
his optimistic way of telling the great deeds ordinary people did, instead
of using political correctness and ripping them, he always emphasized
the positive contributions made, even when others
do not. (ex. The Railroad Owners) Any book written by Ambrose was
guaranteed to be entertaining and informational. It's a shame there
will not be anymore to enjoy.

Important Message
Concerning
Steve!! |
| "Steve Tryon has just completed writing his second monograph. This
one is entitled "Lessons Learned About Addiction." (His first one
was entitled "After Treatment.") I would encourage any family member
interested in this monograph to contact Deb Stoneman (Steve's
sister) and request a copy.
(Deb's email address is
DKStoneman@aol.com
)
Because we would like to have the rest of the family see a
good example of Steve's excellent writing ability and how far he has
come in the rehabilitation process, there is no charge for this
monograph. We would, however, ask that you send Steve a note after
you have the read the booklet and tell him thanks for a job well
done. We appreciate your interest and your support. Thanks much!" GT |

Sap-O
Of The Month Award
this month goes to Barbara Kay Tryon. Yes, our very own,
self-appointed expert on everything around the house, Ms Fix-it. She
actually gets two awards. Award #1 is for her, No Plan Ahead,
landscaping talents. When DBT was up in Red Wing on vacation, she
goes to work. Starts clearing everything in her path. Starts
removing trees, bushes and branches from the yard. Some were
beautiful, but that does not matter, time for change. She brings in
rocks and dirt, plants flowers, gets dirty, great fun. Her flower
garden in the front is surrounded by bricks. She let's the gutter
run the water in the "garden" so her flowers will get the moisture.
Oops, we get our first hard rain. We now have a flower pond, not a
flower garden and the water has NO PLACE to go but back to the
house! and it does......in the basement. DBT is busy (as always)
working on the computer when suddenly his feet are in inches of
water....Geeeze, nice move. We have been busy trying to dry out the
War Room. (the only room left that DBT is allowed in, unsupervised)
Now, I would call that a Sap of the month move, but wait....there is
more.
Award #2 The other day in Nevada it really rains hard. Three
times in the night, severe thunderstorms hit. The crack of lightning
and VERY heavy rains. Wow, it was hard to sleep, the dogs were
nervous, but there is Barb, sleeping, out cold like a drunk'in
sailor. (A wonderful, contented smile on her face.) The next day, we
are off to Red Wing to paint. While DBT is getting the car packed,
he opens the front door and water gushes out. Tons of it. Looks like
what those coal miners must have seen in Pennsylvania. Dirty,
filthy, stinky water just poured out of our new car. Seems Sap-O
left the moon roof open the night before. She had papers from work,
electronics, computer disks all sorts of stuff in the car. What a
mess, not to mention the leather upholstery. I know, it's got to be
DBT's fault somehow. I guess I should have gotten up at 4:00 a.m.
and checked Barb's car....Got to be the man's fault, (the 11th
commandment?)....... Anyone know of a good indoor, car drycleaner?
Plumber? What a Sap! |

Fox
TV Announces New Action-Drama For This Fall!!
Daletta, based on
the Robert Blake character. Critics say Daletta is kind of a
cross between James Bond and Pee Wee Herman. The series will be based in
Dale's own fantasy world, with Dale performing his own stunts, like
eating popcorn on the sofa and taking "give me" putts on the golf
course. No word yet on what type of bird or animal will be the
sidekick of this new private eye hero, although some are pushing for
a cute cocker spaniel. Co-starring Jane Russell as Janet, Lucy Arnez
as his secretary and Walter Brennen as Dale's comical sidekick. So
look out Osama, OJ, the Big Twelve football powers and the Taliban,
he is coming this fall on your local Fox channel. |
Mountain Lion
Sightings Rise In Shelby County
Shelby County reports
suggesting the presence of mountain lions in the area have been
confirmed by conservation officials.Bryce Schaben, Shelby County
roadside Management Director, said several key sighting have been
brought to his attention. Schaben said he was recently called to a
rural residence near Irwin to look at a horse who appeared to have
been attacked by a mountain lion. He said two scratches on the
side of the horse and two scratches on the horse's haunches
appeared to be caused by a mountain lion.
"It's possible, " Schaben said, Everything kind of points that
way." Since the incident, the horse has been apprehensive about
.returning to the pasture and the farm
cats have been staying near the front door of the home. Bill and
Louise Ahrenholtz,
rural Defiance residents, also spotted a mountain lion north of
Defiance in the Nishnabotna River, Wednesday , July 17. Bill and
his wife spotted the
mountain lion, which was fighting with two dogs near the river.
The cougar was more passive, while the dogs appeared to be the
aggressors. Ahrenholtz said the mountain
lion seemed to be an adult, based on the white mane around his
neck. Don Miller, a resident of Defiance, had been checking crops
when he spotted a cougar three days later, Saturday, July 20, on
Hwy 37, less than a mile from
Hwy 59. ,The mountain lion was of medium size and was running
through a bean field. Recent sightings have been 3/4 mile west of
Highway 59, on
Highway 37 -Highway 59, near the Harlan Municipal Airport -Two
miles north of Defiance,
near Nishnabotna River :.- one and 1/2 miles north of Rosman -
Glendale Golf Course -* mile east of Corley in resident's lawn
and Manteno Park. Schaben said it's important for people to remain
calm about the possibility of mountain lions in the area.
Statistics show that an
individual is ten times more likely to be Killed by a neighbor's
dog
than a mountain lion. He also stated that he hoped people don't
overreact, but you should be aware of them.

Lost
And Found
In Red Wing, Minnesota this summer, Warren found a treasure. Not
many of you know that his dad not only served in World War Two, in
Europe, but his Dad also won the bronze star. A few months ago, I
stayed at the Watson Bed and Breakfast and was very surprised, when
in the morning, I got up and saw all of his Dad's souvenirs from the
war. Man, German flags, pictures, emblems, weapons, helmets etc. It
was really something. It looked like a small museum. Warren has been
going over his dad's letters and has been corresponding with people
in France and Belgium trying to retrace exactly where his dad was
and what was going on. He has even contacted a veteran who served
with his dad and is going to visit him in Manchester, Iowa next
week. There is a plan to go to Europe in a year or two. He even has
been reading numerous books on the subject. Well, in one of his
Dad's letters to Warren's mom, his Dad sent and talked about
pictures that appeared in Life Magazine. They were pictures of a
burned out tank and places where his dad walked by. The pictures
somehow were misplaced and lost from the letter. While up in Red
Wing, Violet (Barb's mom) informed WW of a shop in town that had
boxes of old Life Magazines. So with comical side kick (DBT) he went
to town on a mission. It didn't take 5 minutes when Dead Eye asked
WW what he was looking for? "You mean this?" and right on top was
the exact issue. Photos are of actual places his dad walked by and
saw. Houses, tanks, burned out city hall etc. Nice story, below are
the pictures his Dad sent to his Mom. Click photos for larger view.
Pretty amazing!

Ok, maybe this happened to me
back in 1993, I just don't remember......
At Least He Didn't Forget Their
Anniversary
"Honeymoon plans for a Texas couple came to an abrupt end when the
groom suffered a case of amnesia, went missing and lost all memory
of being married," Reuters reports from Austin, Texas. "Sean
McNulty, 30, was found outside an abandoned hotel near Houston
airport three days after he was to leave on a honeymoon to Italy,
and five days after he tied the knot." McNulty, who had apparently
bumped his head, didn't recognize a photo of his wife. He's in the
hospital, "where his new bride is trying to revive memories of his
life and helping him to remember the names of his new in-laws." |

Lynn Has Knee Surgery As Storm Rest
Tryon, 6'4, 240 lbs., had been playing on a sore knee and suffering with the
pain. It was discovered that he had some loose cartilage in his knee joint and
he also had his knee scoped on April 27. Tryon's return will depend on the speed
of his recovery, and could take anywhere from 2-4 weeks. Tryon's return is
targeted for the May 11th game against the Lincoln (NE) Capitals. "It's a long
season, and it is better that L.T. (Tryon) got this taken care of early," said
Aldrich. "We would rather have him 100% towards the end of the season than 70%
and limping along for the whole season."

Villa Plays
Host To High Rollers!
I want to share an unbelievable site that I
was lucky enough to witness last Sat. at the
Villa. I hustled in, as Dale had invited anyone
around to "come and visit"! What did I see? I
saw SEVEN brothers, all around the same table,
playing cards and fighting over the last of
onion rings! I didn't know Larry and Dale had
such long arms! It was super to see all of the
brothers having such a great time! Dale, you
weren't really visiting with visitors
though--and YES, it did remind me of scenes at
the nursing home--7 big, gray haired guys,
sitting around the table, talking about
surgeries, farts, heart problems, and not
remembering who had the last bid!!! I bet there
were atleast 6 different colors of gray dye
used!! You should have seen how high they all
jumped when a waitress accidentally broke a
balloon in the room! Anyway, it was great to see
you all!!! Sis :)ps, Yes, the two beautiful,
young, slim sisters visited the brothers! |

Fine Season Ends For ADM
55-42 loss to #6
Norwalk ends a great season and career for

conference with Perry, Carroll, Ballard,
Carlisle and now Norwalk, what a demanding
schedule. Nice job Tigers!! Still a very fine
record!! |

Clarence Tryon Fined In Shelby
County?????
Aunt Helen
noticed the following in the Harlan
newspaper. You might want to put it
on the Home Page. Be advised that a
"Clarence E. Tryon was fined $63.75
in traffic court on 1-22-02." He is
from Oneida, KS and was charged with
the max. hours of service violation.
Whatever that means. Thought you
would be interested that there is
another Clarence Tryon. You might
inquire if anyone knows who it is.
Thanks Jim and Helen for the
info.......wow, and almost on his
birthday!! |
Congratulations!!
